ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
bartfull replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We used to go sledding at night. We'd put flashlights into plastic bags and then tie them onto the front of the sleds. Then the person in front would put their feet through the bars in the sled behind them and we would make a chain. Sometimes there'd be seven of us. And of course because our feet were in the way, the only one who could steer was the person... -
Woo Hoo!!! Last night I went to an open house at a restaurant down the street. A friend of mine owns it and has become so gluten aware (because of me ) that she is making almost everything gluten-free now. She made a spinach fritata that was so good I asked for the recipe, and I did NOT get sick. I haven't had spinach in a couple of years because leafy greens...

ARCHIVED One Advantage Of Celiac, No Need To Shave Legs
bartfull replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm 59. Now that I've FINALLY found some vitamins I can take, maybe it'll grow back, but if it doesn't I won't mind. -
ARCHIVED One Advantage Of Celiac, No Need To Shave Legs
bartfull replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I used to have legs like a gorilla. Now I no longer have to shave them AT ALL. -
ARCHIVED This Itchy Skin Has Got To Stop!
bartfull replied to tonalynn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I got mine at Ace Hardware but they look something like this: Open Original Shared Link I like them because you don't need to replace filters. I use distilled water because the water where I live is full of minerals which would plug up the unit and leave a white residue. If you put one in the bedroom and one in the living room or wherever you spend the... -
ARCHIVED This Itchy Skin Has Got To Stop!
bartfull replied to tonalynn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A home humidifier. I don't know how old you are, but I noticed the itchiness starting when I was in my 40's. I never used to get that way when I was young. Then again, maybe it wasn't age, but celiac. I do know though that while it gets worse in winter, I still itch somewhat during the summer. And lotions don't really help. But keeping the humidity in my... -
ARCHIVED Vitamins
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's been two and a half hours. If I were going to get sick, I would have already - my gluten reactions come on pretty quickly. Looks like these really are safe. HOORAY!!! -
ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
bartfull replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It came down so hard here yesterday, I would shovel and within a half hour it didn't look like it had been shoveled at all. Got about six or seven inches. It's a regular winter #*%*#&*% wonderland. -
ARCHIVED Vitamins
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Aha! I got tired of waiting for an email response so I just called them. "Not made with any gluten containing ingredients, but they don't test them so they can't guarantee there is no CC." I'm going to take one this afternoon. -
I THINK I have finally found some vitamins I can take. They are corn-free and I believe the lecithin is from sunflower instead of soy. But the label doesn't say gluten-free, even though a lot of their other stuff does. I wrote to the company but have yet to hear back from them. Here is a link to the label. Does anybody see anything that might have gluten...

Corn oil makes me EXTREMELY sick! The ONLY corn product I can tolerate (and in SMALL doses) is corn starch. The protein in the starch is mostly processed out of it, but if I get glutened (or corned like I did with those vitamins a few weeks ago), I lose corn starch for a while again.

Canyon Bakehouse 7-grain is my favorite. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With The "haters"?
bartfull replied to Glittersmith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's a side effect of the "fad". There are so many people now who choose to eat "gluten-free" because they think it will make them lose weight or look cool or whatever it is that motivates them. But back in the old days (1980's) when my Mom was diagnosed, she got the same reaction. I will NEVER forget that horrible woman at a potluck Mom and I... -
I have several additional intolerances besides gluten. And I keep reading here about folks who have been gluten-free for years and a now developing new intolerances. I don't think they have figured it out yet, but there must be something else going on with our immune systems. It's not that we're not healed yet. If you've been gluten-free for years and...

Last week I went to the post office to get a money order to buy a guitar. I had the envelope already addressed and stamped so all I had to do was drop the money order in it and stick it in the mail. I looked around for a sponge like they used to have at post offices and there was none. A lady in line asked what was wrong. I told her I was "allergic to corn...

ARCHIVED Partner May Have Celiacs, Need Advice
bartfull replied to zoso66's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Guys tend to be "fixers". Women tend to be "listeners". There's a lot of strife over that for all of us. A woman usually talks about her problems just to have someone tell her they understand. We aren't looking for a fix, just a hug. And of course if we can GET a guy to tell us about HIS problems, he usually thinks "What's the use? All she wants to do... -
Google gluten-free gift basket. There are TONS of them!

ARCHIVED Partner May Have Celiacs, Need Advice
bartfull replied to zoso66's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you point out to her that there are TONS of gluten-free foods that are delicious, and that if she does have celiac or NCGI that she can doctor HERSELF with a simple diet change rather than medications (and all their side effects) or surgery, and start feeling really really good again, maybe she wouldn consider it? Buy her some Udi's Double Chocolate... -
Oh, that last one sounds like what I'm looking for! Thanks!! I'll have to leave out the soy and dijon, but I bet it'll still be good. I probably won't get to it until after Christmas. Things have gotten very busy all of a sudden - had to play guitar at a Christmas event last night and have more coming up. (I hate it when my Sundays off are taken up with stuff...

Maybe you should ask Santa for a gluten-free gourmet gift basket from your local health food store. I'm sure one exists, but if your local store doesn't have one, maybe "Santa" can have one made up for you. It'll be expensive, but then again even the gluten-filled ones are overpriced. Hmm...now that I think about it, maybe Santa can get me one of these...

This is an older thread but there was quite a bit of discussion about muscle twitching:https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/64429-muscle-twitching/ There might be some info there that can help you.

ARCHIVED Cross Reactivity Test In Europe?
bartfull replied to JohanJohan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would start with the basics. Double and triple check that you are not getting CC'd. Reread the Newbie 101 thread, including all of the links provided. Then, once you are sure there is no gluten sneaking into your diet, strip down your diet to a few essentials - meat, rice, a few veggies. Once you are feeling OK eating this very limited diet, try adding... -
Here's more anecdotal evidence that celery seed works. Open Original Shared Link I listen to this show on Saturday mornings. Every once in a while they do a show on home remedies, and this is from one of them. I also looked it up and there haven't been any studies done on this so there is no scientific proof. But I DID notice that they say it...

ARCHIVED Silent Ncgi, Is It Possible?
bartfull replied to Salax's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
IS there a gene for NCGI? I don't think they know very much about NCGI yet. From what I understand the symptoms are the same as for celiac, but there is supposedly no villi damage. According to that "definition", the only "symptom" is symptoms, so if you DON'T have symptoms, you don't have it. All that being said, I PERSONALLY suspect there is a lot... -
ARCHIVED Upset Stomachs
bartfull replied to Sunshine08721's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's what is so great about this place - we've all got each other's backs. And the "group mind" can cover just about anything.
