ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
bartfull replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's been really warm here (50's) for the past couple of weeks, but tomorrow night it's supposed to go down to 6 below with a 20 below wind chill. But by Friday it'll be back in the 50's. Shadow usually get's nearly the same weather we do. I haven't seen her here in a while. Hey Shadow, are you OK? -
ARCHIVED Another Boring Plea! But I Am So Upset!
bartfull replied to MGR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From what I have read, a lot of folks who have DH get negative results on the biopsy. If you feel you absolutely must have a diagnosis, you should get a skin biopsy. They need to take the sample on CLEAR skin right next to an ACTIVE lesion. You also said it looks like your uncle's rash. Has HE been diagnosed with DH? Because DH DOES mean celiac, and celiac...- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Catholic Communion - Low Gluten Host
bartfull replied to Rosiesallergies's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Some Catholic churches insist the Host has to have wheat to be valid, and some are more lenient. As it is, the "low" gluten Host WILL hurt you. -
ARCHIVED After You Cook gluten-free
bartfull replied to MsMarginalized's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Maybe you should get your own antibodies checked. If yours are high too, you'll know it something in the house or a food that you are both eating. If not, you'll know he is getting it from somewhere else. Double and triple check all supplements and medications. (Something that was fine might now contain gluten. They change ingredients based on price and... -
ARCHIVED After You Cook gluten-free
bartfull replied to MsMarginalized's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Were your numbers down at your one year checkup? If so, he must be getting gluten outside of the home. PLEASE don't take this the wrong way, but are you sure he isn't cheating on the diet when you're not around? -
ARCHIVED Milk Allergy And Celiac Proving To Be Quite Difficult :(
bartfull replied to Jen-1984's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Nobdy can make you stop. You know that's what you need to do and until you make the decision there is nothing any of us can say. Eventually you will either decide you are tired of feeling lousy, and you will realize that you need to stay healthy for your kid's sake if not your own, or you will sink further and further into the gluten hell you have found yourself... -
ARCHIVED Mother And Son Intolerant
bartfull replied to WinterSage's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, first of all, the gluten thing is not an allergy. If you have celiac, that is an autoimmune disease. And if you don't have celiac, but a sensitivity to gluten, that is called non-celiac gluten intolerance. The difference is that with celiac there is intestinal damage, and with NCGI, there isn't. It seems obvious to me based on your response to the diet... -
ARCHIVED Asprin Or Tylenol
bartfull replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Best parents in the world, and yes, they were both musical. And no matter what, that trumps any intolerances or allergies. -
ARCHIVED Family Glutening Me In gluten-free Household
bartfull replied to skullgrl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds to me like your Dad is clueless about gluten, and your brother is actually "anti-gluten-free". With your brother's attitude, do you think it's possible he is deliberately sabotaging you? I agree with the others that the cap dropping on the floor shouldn't gluten you, but if your brother is annoyed by having to eat gluten-free in the house, maybe... -
ARCHIVED Asprin Or Tylenol
bartfull replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have an actual allergy to aspirin. That means I can't take aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxin, even if they don't have corn in them. Can't even take willow bark. I get the intolerances from my mother's side of the family and the allergies from my father's side. Lucky me. -
Hello Tifftiff, why don't you start a new thread, introduce yourself, tell us about your testing and symptoms, and then everyone will chime in with suggestions. My first suggestion is to read the Newbie 101 thread in the coping section. And welcome!

ARCHIVED I'm Not Getting Better, Actually Getting Worse
bartfull replied to answerseeker's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just a shot in the dark, but have you been to the Mast Cell Activation Syndrome thread? -
ARCHIVED Asprin Or Tylenol
bartfull replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That WOULD be my first choice too if I weren't allergic to it. I try to be VERY careful with my Tylenol. Lately there have been several reports saying that just taking a little more Tylenol than the recommended daily dosage can cause liver damage. So I only take it when the pain is severe, and even then I only take one capsule (325 mg.) instead of the two... -
ARCHIVED Things To Help With Healing.
bartfull replied to Frosty-35768's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Frosty, Frosty, Frosty. You are as bad as I am! Doctor says, "You need this" and I say, "Um, no!" So HAVE you had bloody or very dark stools? If so you MAY be losing blood. Yes, anemia can be related to celiac, but it COULD also be related to something else. If they wanted you to go to the hospital and get a transfusion it must be pretty serious. How... -
ARCHIVED After You Cook gluten-free
bartfull replied to MsMarginalized's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I think the chances of CC are greater from other sources. Like maybe someone in the house spread butter or mayo on some gluten bread and then dipped the knife again. If you use that jar or tub or stick, you have just contaminated yourself. Or maybe some gluten crumbs got into the silverware drawer. Or maybe someone in the house baked something with gluten... -
ARCHIVED Still Suffering Stomach Pains
bartfull replied to mom2alex's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Also, there is a very nasty stomach bug going around right now that includes "double you over" pains. -
I just read my last post and want to clarify. After the surgery Mom WAS fine, but she still had celiac of course.
-
Hyperparathyroidism can be caused by low levels of calcium and vitamin D. Because you had celiac for a long time, you haven't been absorbing nutrients from your food the way you should. My Mom, who also had celiac had hyperparathyroidism and had surgery for it. After that she was OK. But you should ask your doctor to test all your vitamin and mineral...

ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookies - Horrible!
bartfull replied to sschevychevelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I apologize. I knew the troop only kept a small percentage but I assumed it was like a lot of the school fundraisers where a COMPANY kept most of the profits. Now I know better. Thank you. I was a 4-H girl when I was young. And whether it be 4-H, Scouting, Boys and Girl's Clubs, or other kid's organizations, there is no doubt in my mind these things are... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookies - Horrible!
bartfull replied to sschevychevelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just looked up Pamela's cookies and I didn't see a thin mint, but their double chocolate mini cookies are really good. I haven't tried all the flavors because a lot of them have corn (which I am intolerant to), but if the rest of their stuff is as good as these chocolate mini's, I bet you'll be delighted. Maybe you could make some sort of mint "dip" to... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-Free Girl Scout Cookies - Horrible!
bartfull replied to sschevychevelle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I never bought girlscout cookies even before I went gluten-free. Too expensive, and hardly any of the money raised actually goes to the girl scouts. -
Wow! Thanks SO MUCH! This really confirms that I have MCAS. I had been eating sweet potatoes every single day, usually for both lunch and dinner. I was also eating Udi's chocolate muffins, one a day, for the past three weeks. Well, I am SO SICK OF SWEET POTATOES, so I switched to white rice last week, but still ate a muffin each afternoon. And NOW I am...

Yeah, corn makes things so hard! The worst part for me is finding medications and supplements that don't have corn. I DID find a vitamin I can take, FINALLY! (Lifetime Iron-free Soft Gels. They don't say gluten-free, but I called the company and it was your basic CYA statement, so I started taking them and have had no problems.) I have to get my Tylenol made...

ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
bartfull replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's not cold here (high of 42, low of 19), but it's so WINDY!!! Steady wind in the 30 MPH range and gusts up to 60 MPH! Tree limbs down everywhere! Supposed to die down tonight, and temps in the forseeable future are again in the 50's. -
ARCHIVED Asprin Or Tylenol
bartfull replied to w8in4dave's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
EVERYTHING has corn in it! I have to have my Tylenol made at a compounding pharmacy.
