Celery Seed extract. You can get capsules of this at your health food store. A dear friend of mine had gout so severe that he has come close to dying. One time it was in his elbow and the swelling was so bad he finally went to the hospital. The doctors told him if he had waited a few hours longer he would have been dead. He used to get attacks so severe...

And check out the Newbie 101 thread in the coping section. It will help you so much! -
Your most likely are NOT allergic to gluten, You are INTOLERANT to it. An allergic reaction usually involves breathing. An intolerance, sensitivity, or out an out celiac involves your digestions (and a WHOLE lot of other symptoms). Some of us either don't have major digestive symptoms, or we do along with skin rashes, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, and the...

Poor kid! First of all, depression is one of the many symptoms of celiac. And on top of that, because he isn't absorbing things, he's not getting the full benefit of his meds. As he starts to heal not only will the meds work better, but he may find that he doesn't need them at all. Seratonin is made in the small intestine, and his is damaged. As it heals...

I found one online that sounds pretty good. 1 Tbsp. brown sugar 2 Tsp. ground ginger 1 Tsp. ground cloves 1/2 Tsp. cinnamon 1/2 Tsp black pepper. I like the idea of a kind of sweet flavor. A friend of mine makes the best sauerbraten I ever tasted, and he uses gingersnaps(!) and wine, and he lets it marinate for DAYS. I'd love to get that flavor...

ARCHIVED Dishwasher/almost Gluten-Free Kitchen Question
bartfull replied to livinthelife's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I have very hard water and my dishwasher doesn't do a very good job either. I don't use it at all anymore. It's just me now anyway. I never have company since I opened my business because I'm never home. I think, since my dishwasher is a portable one, I'm just going to get rid of it. All I use it for now is extra counter space. -
I don't have to use the slow cooker. It would warm the house up if I used the oven. I seem to have a problem with chocolate (even gluten-free, soy-free, corn-free chocolate), so I was thinking ginger might be nice. If I can't get any of the caul fat, would chicken fat do? Buttermilk is something I can probably get here. Could I do the dry rub...

ARCHIVED Cyrex Cross Reactivity Test Accuracy?
bartfull replied to laura4669's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am intolerant corn. My reation to corn is different than my reaction when I'm glutened. I am also intolerant to nightshades. Once again, a totally different reaction than I get to either corn or gluten. I can't eat blueberries either. But it's not the same as my reaction to the other things. I would think if these were so-called "cross-reactive" reactions... -
Addy's right (as usual). Think about it for a minute. How many times have you recieved a sweater that was either your least favoriet color, or some knick-knack you really didn't want? You just say thank you and then either give it away or throw it away. It IS the thought that counts. And besides, how manyChristmas gifts that you really LIKE do you think you...

ARCHIVED Food Intolerances Or Gastritis?
bartfull replied to ceceliac's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
First of all, are you sure you're completely gluten-free? Did you replace your toaster, cutting boards, wooden spoons, strainers, and any scratched plastic or teflon? Are you using cast iron pans that once held gluten? And how about condiments? You need your own dedicated mayo, margerine, etc. because once a knife has dipped into them and touched bread, then... -

I'll be happy when it gets a bit above ZERO! Last night was only 11 below, but the wind chill made it feel like -26. And they DID have that stupid parade. I don't know if anybody showed up to watch it though. -
Always, always, always, wash your hands before putting ANYTHING in your mouth. I wash my hands a lot anyway, but even if I have just washed them two minutes ago, if I have touched ANYTHING (like my gluten-eating cat, my guitar that someone else has played earlier, the telephone here at the shop tha others use on occasion, or even my face which has a non-gluten...

Getting corned is like getting glutened. Some have one reaction, some another. And those reactions can last a few hours or a few weeks. But I'm wondering if something else is going on. I just googled causes of facial swelling and a Livestrong article said that hypothyroidism can cause it. And of course we all know that many celiacs have thyroid problems...

I'll try but I doubt it. These stores here are pretty bleak. I'm so sorry the pain has gotten worse! I'll be sending my thoughts and prayers your way.

The candy most likely had corn syrup instead of sugar. Daisy brand cottage cheese has nothing evil in it. I have used it and not only did I not get sick, but it tastes great. Yes, teabags often contain corn. They use cornstarch to dry the paper. Loose tea and a teaball works. And the rice could well be "polished" with corn starch. I use Uncle...

ARCHIVED Could This Be Caused By Gluten?
bartfull replied to JennaQ's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Believe it or not, Milk of Magnesia makes a GREAT deodorant. COMPLETELY kills any odor and is very mild on the skin. I keep a bottle with just a tiny pin hole in the foil seal, and I put it on an old powderpuff to apply. It takes a few minutes to dry, but it's worth it not to be putting aluminium and other nasty chemicals on my skin. -

-20 at my house this morning with a wind chill advisory. Probably about -30 with the wind. And I don't have a furnace! Mine broke so I'm using space heaters (electric radiators). I have five of them going and most of the house closed off, but it was only 53 in there this morning. Not bad when you're moving around but when you first get up and sit drinking... -
There IS no local butcher. I guess I can live without bacon (unless I think about it too much).

I looked up pictures and it looks like "sirloin tip center", which they suggest roasting. (Which I was going to do anyway. Do you call it roasting when you do it in a slow cooker?) My problem is the fat. Can't get lard around here that isn't adulterated with _______ CORN! Can't get bacon around here that isn't contaminated with _______ CORN! All...

It's frozen. I don't have to cook it until I'm feeling brave. And I'm so sorry to hear you have hurt your back (again? or should I say "some more"?) I know you are in constant pain, and yet you are always so cheerful. You are an example we should all hold up and try to emulate. (((((HUGS)))))

I don't know. I forgot to ask him. It's in a vacuum-sealed package and it's kind of oblong but sort of flat. Maybe five inches wide, seven or eight inches long, and three inches thick. (And by the way, I was hoping it's be you who answered. I KNOW anything you suggest will come out delicious. Just go easy on me - remember I have NO experience cooking...

Ok, so the same guy who gave me all that bison a few weeks ago just brought me an elk roast. How do I cook it? I know it's very lean and should be cooked in a crock pot. All the recipes I saw on line include things I can't have. Should I just use carrots seeing I am off nightshades? And they say to sear it in vegetable oil first. Well, olive oil doesn't seem...

ARCHIVED Toy Yorkies And Joint Pain
bartfull replied to GF Lover's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Wasn't trying to make you laugh. Chipmunks (as well as squirrels and other rodents) like to chew on wiring. It can cause a fire. I know they're cute, but it could be dangerous. -

I hope the chipmunk doesn't chew on the wiring.
