  1. OK, first of all, if you get C, you are not "silent". Not all celiacs have D. A lot of them get C instead. So the products you had said "may contain wheat", and not "made in a facility that processes wheat"? I ask because there is a big difference. If something says "...facility..." I don't worry so much. If it says "Made on EQUIPMENT that also processes...
  2. If I'm not mistaken, quite a few folks here on the forum have had trouble with Amy's products. The health food store I go to sells Amy's pizza, and it is quite a bit cheaper than the Against the Grain pizza that they sell, but I always buy the Against the Grain because I won't take the chance with Amy's. (And besides, the Against the Grain is pretty darned...
  3. I think your idea for a sign is perfect. And I would also keep paper towels by the nearest sink instead of real towels, because some people might either pretend to wash their hands, or not wash them well. I'd hate to see your little ones transfer the potential gluten from the towels to their hands. Here at the shop I don't have a sign about food, but...
  4. I use Domino sugar. I don't think they process anything but sugars.
  5. Maybe there is something in the plastic the sippy cup is made of that she is reacting to? Try giving her whole milk out of a different container for a while and see if the rash goes away. Or maybe she has taken up a new behavior. Sometimes kids go through phases where they will do the strangest things, like start chewing on a stuffed animal that they...
  6. I used to get dressed up and meet the kids at the door. Now, I leave the lights off. Just too many kids, and FAR too many BIG kids - older teenagers. If a seventeen-year-old kid thinks he needs to go trick or treating, I think his parents should be notified. Yes, I am a Halloween scrooge. But if I DID do Halloween, I think I'd give them...LIVER AND ONIONS...
  7. I wonder why NIH would publish this if they even suspected that the kid was cheating on the diet. I don't believe that all nine-year-old celiacs cheat, especially when it makes them as sick as this kid was described to be. I DO know that CORN-based plastics are made using corn sugar, which has enough of the protein in it to make a corn intolerant person...
  8. Having been "corned" by plastic, I DO believe this story. The fact that it was published by NIH also makes it more believable to me. "Despite strict dietary elimination of gluten, she continued to be symptomatic and demonstrate positive serum markers for active disease. It was then discovered that the child was exposed to gluten from her orthodontic retainer...
  9. I'm happy to hear this, not because I want anyone to be glutened by plastic, but because it validates my corn reaction to the corn-based plastics. I think some of the folks here doubted me when I said I had a bad reaction to a bottle of water, and then found out the plastic was made using corn. Even I thought that by the time the corn was made into plastic...
  10. The conditioner and body wash - I couldn't find ingredients. I guess you'll have to call them, or switch to the other brands recommended here.
  11. Open Original Shared Link The lotion is tougher. They list "vegetables" and "oils" in their ingredients. That sounds to me like they use whatever is available at the time, and whatever is lower cost at the time. In other words, the ingredients change. This one MIGHT have gluten sometimes.
  12. Open Original Shared Link I don't see any gluten ingredients here. Anybody else?
  13. It's so hard because you never know what it might be, and the tricky part is that the onset of symptoms AND the duration of them varies from one person to the next, and even from one symptom to the next! For example, If I get glutened, I get nauseous within an couple of hours, then get D that might last a week. But a psoriasis flare shows up within eight...
  14. Planter's nuts are NOT made in a facility that processes wheat (unless it says so on the label - and it WILL if they are). That is the only brand I eat, unless I eat nuts that come still in the shell. There is no need to give up corn unless you have problems with it, but if you do, or still want to be corn-free, make sure the syrup you put on those pancakes...
  15. This makes ME think, or should I say SPECULATE, that there really is no such thing as NCGI. I speculate that if you have been diagnosed with NCGI, you really DO have celiac. No scientific evidence to back that up, just a feeling I have had all along and this article makes me believe it.
  16. There are only 16 calories in a teaspoon of sugar. Even on days you have five, it is only 80 calories. I think a better way to cut calories would be to reduce the portions of ice cream or chocolate, just by a little bit. Also, be aware that most gluten-free substitutes have WAY more calories than their gluten counterparts.
  17. Tell that dietician she needs to write a book or paper that needs to be required reading for every health care facility in the country!
  18. Have you had your vitamin levels checked? It sounds like you might be deficient, especially seeing vitamin polls don't ahree with you. And BECAUSE they don't agree with you, I am suspecting corn. That is what most pills use as a filler.
  19. Wipes won't work. I would keep a wet, soapy washcloth in a ziplock bag, plus a bottle of plain water to rinse with. Rinse, wash well with cloth, rinse again. If you're in the car of course you'll have to stop and get out of the car to do this, unless you keep a lidded bucket in the car.
  20. I know what you mean. I keep getting spammed about weight loss. I'm sure it stems from being a member here. After all, the "gluten-free lifestyle" is the lastest weight loss fad.
  21. Karen is right. There are TONS of celiacs who eat corn and soy and dairy and yeast with no problems at all! SOME of us have additional intolerances, but even if these foods make us feel crappy, they are not true gluten reactions. I, for example, am intolerant to corn. But my reactions to corn are skin related, while gluten has me running to the nearest restroom...
  22. "Then I was in the store looking for yeast free bread since the protein in yeast is so similar to that in gluten that your body reacts the same way to it." Actually, that is not true. You may, because of the leaky gut, have trouble with yeast but I assure you, many if not most celiacs can eat yeast with no problems.
  23. Now THIS is funny! Last I heard, jello is made from animal parts. DEFINITELY not vegan.
  24. "Are you sure you can't have dairy? Why don't you try it again! Who diagnosed you? Oh! That's not a *real* Dr. They did the wrong test! That test is not legitimate! Sorry to tell you this but you just wasted your money! You can't believe those test results. Too many false positives! On and on and on like that. Have even seen people attack other people for...
  25. One of these days, Addy, I WILL make that trip. I haven't taken more than one day off in a row since I opened the shop seven and a half years ago. I am LONG overdue for a vacation!
