  1. I just looked at their web site and their gluten-free products are certified. That means they test them. But I did not see any baking mixes. It was all spices and dressings and salsa and gravy mixes, that kind of thing. What kind of baking mixes do you have?
  2. Yeah, there are a lot of foods I miss. I used to start my day with two english muffins. I know I can get gluten-free ones, but I don't want the expense. And I used to love mexican food, but I also have a corn intolerance so I can't eat that anymore. As a matter of fact, there is corn in almost ALL processed foods, so I can't eat any of them. No more grabbing...
  3. Sorry, but I'm frugal (or as my Mom once said, I'm cheap! ) I buy NYC lipstick at my local Family Dollar store and instead of paying twenty-something a tube, I pay two-something a tube. It may not be the best lipstick on the market, but it's good eough for me. Open Original Shared Link
  4. There is a website called findmeglutenfree.com that should help. It lists gluten-free places in whatever area you will be going to, but it doesn't guarantee them to be safe. It's best to read the reviews to see if anyone with celiac ever got sick. Of course that's no guarantee either, but I know if I read that someone HAD gotten sick, I would probably pass...
  5. I don't think Colleen's answer was insensitive. It's just the truth. I have only eaten in restaurants a few times in the past two and a half years. Twice it was at a place that my "son" worked, so I knew he would take care of me. Once was at Outback (they have a gluten-free menu and good ratings from the celiac crowd.) My son doesn't work at the first...
  6. Well, I am a grumpy person by nature and I was in denial for a long time. Yeah, I was mightily ticked off at first. But I was determined to be scrupulous about the diet because I wanted to feel better. The thing about the dairy is that our damaged villi are the part that makes the enzyme(?) required to digest dairy. Most people give it up JUST FOR A...
  7. I don't have DH, but the pictures look like it (to me). Actually, what I'm doing here is posting to bring this thread back to the top so that some of our DH victims will see it and respond. I hope you get some answers soon. (((((HUGS)))))) to you and your little one.
  8. Stay away. All it takes is for one person to use the wrong scoop, and the whole bin could be contaminated. The only thing I would buy in bulk would be nuts still in the shell, like the grocery stores have at this time of year.
  9. It's different for everybody. Some get symptoms within minutes, and some don't get symptoms for a couple of days.
  10. Wow. Lot's of questions. 1. So far, they say that non-celiac gluten intolerance is different from celiac in that, even though the symptoms are the same, there is no damage to the small intestine. I PERSONALLY suspect that there IS some damage being done, but it just isn't visable yet. But that's just me. Either way, if a peson with NCGI doesn't want...
  11. Nightshade vegetables (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant) are known to cause joint pain in some people. I was having a problem with arthritic-type pain in my fingers and back, and when I stopped eating nightshades it went away. They are cumulative, which means if you give them up for a while to clear your system of them and then eat them just once...
  12. Well, anybody who has eaten your cooking or tried any of the recipes you have posted should immediately take your word for it. I may be the world's worst cook, but YOU are undoubtedly one of the BEST.
  13. I PROMISE, if you tried it you would like it! I GUARANTEE it!!
  14. Corn doesn't give me digestive issues. It's psoriasis. My hands can be pefectly clear, and if I eat something with corn in it, within 8 hours the psoriasis starts popping out. And within 24 hours my hands are so covered with it (and SORE!) that I can't even pick anything up without pain, let alone play guitar. And it takes weeks and weeks to heal. I know...
  15. Yeah, Karen, that's true. I just haven't tried it because my corn reaction is so severe I wouldn't take the chance. I CAN now eat corn starch again, but even with that, I go very lightly. As a matter of fact, I avoid it in my food so the next time I need to buy Tylenol I can get the stuff from Family Dollar instead of the $37- a bottle, made at the compounding...
  16. I can't have corn, soy, nightshades, almonds or blueberries (that I know of - I've sort of stopped trying new foods for now. ) I eat plain meats (mostly chicken), white rice, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, eggs, white cheddar, cashews, an occasional avocado, butter, and Blue Bunny All Natural Vanilla ice cream. And since Canyon Bakehouse dropped...
  17. I wouldn't. If it MAY contain corn oil, it probably does. Corn is cheap so that's what they use. But you CAN get some Kettle Brand chips (sunflower and/or safflower oil) and cover them with the chocolate of your choice.
  18. Off the top of my head, the sweetest words I've heard re celiac disease were, "Come anyway!" when friends were having a dinner or going out. They know I can't eat, but it's my company they want.
  19. Well, I have other food intolerances besides gluten, so my diet is EXTREMELY limited. The only "processed" foods I eat are planter's cashews, rice (I guess you could call that processed), and Blue Bunny all natural vanilla ice cream. Other than that it's meat, sweet potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower, and eggs on the weekends. I can eat white cheddar cheese...
  20. Bring your own food or eat before going. I go places with friends and they all know that I do not eat anything I didn't cook myself at home. Yeah, it's a pain in the neck sometimes, but not as bad as being glutened. I even bring my own food to Thanksgiving dinner. In my own dish, with my own silverware. I enjoy my time visiting with my friends and that...
  21. Gloves? I'm sure you wash your hands before you eat, so the only problem with gluteny hands would be if you rub your lips or scratch them. The thing is we do those things subconsciously. You CAN force yourself not to though. (I used to be a waitress, and I learned never to touch my face, mouth or eyes unless I washed my hands first after touching money and...
  22. If you are pouring dried food, you could be breathing in microscopic particles of dust, which you would then swallow, just as you would if you walked into a place that had flour dust in the air. Also, you would have to be really scrupulous about washing your hands after each time you touched one of the dogs. Most of us here have switched over to gluten...
  23. Summer squash, yellow or zuchinni, are low in carbs, but it's hard to get at this time of year. Your next best bet would be acorn squash.
  24. None of my business, but some of those crappy diseases you fear may be brought on by untreated celiac. Did you know that certain cancers, thyroid problems, lupus, diabetes, and a host of other autoimmune diseases are much more likely to hit an untreated celiac? If things like that run in your family, it might just be that undiagnosed celiac was the underlying...
