  1. Where is the FISH from? If it is from China like most fish available here in the midwest, I won't eat it. If is is wild-caught USA fish, I probably can't GET it here. I swear, the ONLY thing that could get me to take a trip back East is seafood.
  2. What you WILL get with grass-fed beef though, is meat from a healthier animal. It is also more likely that grass-fed beef hasn't been fed hormones and antibiotics. I flat out refuse to eat grocery store beef. I either get my beef from a local rancher or I buy bison. No hormones, antibiotics, or pink slime. Just pure nutrition, and it tastes better too.
  3. Mom used to make her own.
  4. Yep, shared condiments, toaster, wooden spoons, scratched pans. All of these things could be cross-contaminating him. But it could just be that he needs more time. It might be months before his immune system settles down enough to see results. Keep his diet simple. Meats, eggs, fresh veggies, and maybe a little fresh fruit. Think whole foods. Do away...
  5. I suggest meat, eggs, veggies, and SWEET POTATOES, all of them organic. My immune system was "in hyperdrive" according to my nutritionist, so she suggested organic and it worked. I was reacting to pesticide and chemical fertilizer residues. The same foods that made me sick when I bought them at the grocery store were fine when I bought the organic versions...
  6. Could everyone take a deep breath and read Gemini's response above again? Gemini said, ". If I can heal this well and live a normal life and show up for work everyday, most people should be able to do so too. It took a long while for that to happen, over 3 years, but I am stubborn and don't give up easily" That doesn't sound judgemental to me. It sounds...
  7. Ndw, the jaw thing is unrelated except that whenever I get glutened (or corned), it gets worse. I have a lump about the size of a chicken egg on the bottom of my jawbone about halfway between my chin and the hinge. It is as hard as a rock. Sometimes my face swells to huge proportions and I look like I have mumps. The pain and the swelling don't always coincide...
  8. It sure makes me feel better to hear someone else say these things. If you're a wuss, I am wussier. If I am not feeling my best, I don't go out. I have cancelled LOTS and LOTS of things because I don't feel good. When it comes to the POTENTIAL for a good time or my nice comfortable bed, the bed is going to win every time. How sick do I have to feel? Sick...
  9. I didn't want to admit it out loud, nor scare any newbies, but I have to admit I am SO sick! I think I have a fever (related to the jaw thing) and I am so shakey and weak. I have come in and opened the shop every day this week, but left early every day. I stuck it out 'til 3:30 a couple of days, but left earlier on the others. As soon as I get home I go to...
  10. All that being said, those of us with corn intolerances or allergies DO get sick if we drink out of corn-based plastic. And we DO get sick from wiping out hands on paper towels that have corn in them and then eating. I would think that if they start using wheat in some of these products, some of the super-sensitive among us MAY have a problem.
  11. I am going to try it. Ever since the cookie crumb incident a month or two ago, I have been struggling. I had gotten corn starch back, but now it seems I have lost it again. Right now my jaw is just about clampped shut so I have been eating gluten-free organic yogurt, but as soon as I can open it again I am doing away with all sugar, all grains, and will be...
  12. I used to have oil heat. My furnace broke and rather than fixing it I got some of those electric radiators they sell for around $40 each. I have already saved over a thousand dollars over last year and it's been colder than it was last year.
  13. It took a while, but after a month or so of being gluten-free I started sleeping like a baby after years and years of insomnia. Now I hardly ever have a sleepless night. If being gluten-free did nothing else for me, that alone would be worth it!
  14. Maybe I'm wrong but I could have sworn the loaves used to be 14 oz. I've noticed on the past few loaves that the slices seemed smaller. Today I looked and the package now says 12 oz. I sure wish the PRICE went down with the size of the loaf!
  15. OK, I'm thinking. She has basically been sick since her last glutening? Maybe there was enough damage done then to, as my nutritionist put it, send her immune system into hyperdrive. I had had celiac for years, and when I first started gluten-free I felt great for a few weeks. Then some gluten-free cornbread sent me into a tailspin. After that it seemed like...
  16. Oh yeah, the other thing I would check into is non-food items like her make-up and shampoo. Companies change their formulas all the time depending on the price of ingredients. It could be something as simple as a new ingredient in her favorite lipstick. Or maybe she is dating now that she is 15 and her boyfriend is kissing her after eating gluten?
  17. Just because she showed no allergies doesn't mean she doesn't have additional intolerances. From what I have read, soy can cause the same damage to villi as gluten and I believe dairy is the other one mentioned. (I have been trying to find out if corn does the same thing but can't find any info.) You have eliminated gluten and dairy - how about soy?
  18. Open Original Shared Link Gluten ataxia symptoms can be permanent if not treated "promptly".
  19. Tell us more. How old is she? Do you live in a gluten-free house? Does she have her own toaster, condiments, cookware? She might be getting cross-contamination from any of these. If she is a youngster, she may be getting exposed at school, either from her friends, from Play-Doh, or even from something her teacher has her doing. If you read the Newbie...
  20. Iodine is bad for DH and a lot of salt is iodized. I don't have DH and my heart breaks for those of you who do. Go to the DH section of the forum and read as many threads as you can and you will find a lot of tips on how to deal with it.
  21. I used to have those when I was eating gluten. I never even thought about it being gluten connected, and I never even consciously noticed that they have gone away now, but they have. I had issues with mouth sores AFTER going gluten-free for a while. Those have stopped now too. I would say just give it time.
  22. Luv2teach, I'm sorry you are feeling this way but be assured, it is perfectly normal to go through a grieving stage. I think all of us did. Meltdowns at the grocery store, feeling left out when our friends go out to eat, and having a new baby must make it that much worse. But the food doesn't have to be crappy. Most of what you used to eat is still available...
  23. I never did like coldcuts. My favorite lunchmeat is chicken that I cooked myself. I can shred it and put it on some Udi's with some melted cheddar and it beats any coldcut out there. I used to like Kettle Brand Sea Salt chips the best, but it seems potatoes still bother me. But because of your DH I guess you can't have salt. I have in the past had unsalted...
  24. "Since you've substituted all your bread with cornbread, corn would be high on my list of things to stop. Bartfull says he reacts worse to corn than gluten. But aside from that you may also want to quit dairy." SHE, Cavernio, I'm a SHE. I really should change my screen name to "Bart's Mom" or something. Bart was my dog. When he misbehaved I used to...
  25. I think one of the reasons kids get sick more often today is that they don't play in the dirt. They are using anti-bacterial soaps. They are living in a more sterile environment and their immune systems don't get to build up strength. I know that is why you believe we should let our kids get these childhood diseases, but I guess it depends on the individual...
