  1. If you don't eat during this first date, you should be safe. I'm sure one of the last things he will do before he comes to pick you up is brush his teeth. Then at some time in the future you can mention kissing somewhere in the middle of telling him about cross-contamination. Have fun! He sounds like a nice guy.
  2. You are right.
  3. Whew! A little earlier today when I clicked on I got a message that said "FORBIDDEN! You are not allowed access to page!" I figured it was something to do with an upgrade.
  4. I almost died when I had chickenpox. I was three years old but I remember it as if it were yesterday. So weak, such a high fever, and so much pain. Plus, those who have had chickenpox are at much greater risk of shingles in adulthood. I agree that kids are overvaccinated these days, but chickenpox is one that I think is good. Measles too. That's another...
  5. Hives ARE a sign of anaphalaxis. You may only be getting hives now but at any time, the next reaction could close your throat. The swelling in your mouth is too close to being a full blown reaction. And being an asthma patient, you should DEFINITELY carry an epi-pen at all times! INSIST on it!!!!! PLEASE! I get the celiac from Mom's side of the family...
  6. Make sure it isn't any kind of shellfish. Those have more allergic potential than regular fish. You might try lamb or turkey. Most of the folks here who had such severe trouble seemed to tolerate them. Lamb especially. I myself don't care for it, but if I needed the protein I could choke it down. How do you do with spices? If there are some you know you can...
  7. Open Original Shared Link The articles I have read say it doesn't interfere with synthroid, but it does with this other med. A friend of mine has Hashi's, and her doctor warned her about coffee.
  8. If someone has thydroid trouble, coffee will react with their meds making them ineffective. I don't know if they will bother the thyroid directly, even if you aren't on meds but have undiagnosed thyroid trouble, but I know a friend of mine who couldn't tolerate coffee even before she went on meds. I tell you this because a lot of celiacs have problems...
  9. Living normally while first battling celiac is like learning to ride a bicycle. You fall off a lot, steer into obsticles, and sometimes feel like you'll never "get it". Then one day you go for a long smooth ride and realize that you finally DID get it, and from then on, life is better than ever.
  10. Recovering from celiac is like having the DA say that new DNA evidence proves you were innocent all along and will now be released after spending years imprisoned for a crime you did not committ.
  11. It's the aluminum in anti-perspirants that is a problem - for everyone, not just celiacs. I have heard there have been studies done that show women who apply anti-perspirant after shaving have a 30% higher incidence of breast cancer than women who don't. I use milk of magnesia. A little messy to apply, and you have to let it dry before getting dressed...
  12. I know this is a touchy subject, but you may have to start eating meat, at least for a little while. If you can't stand the thought, how about fish? You have to get some protein or you will never heal. I know a lot of vegetarians and some do it for health reasons, some for ethical reasons, and some because they just plain don't like meat. But whatever your...
  13. I'd be more worried about bedbugs. There is an epidemic of them in this country. If you google "bedbug motel", there are a couple of websites that will tell you which motels have had bedbugs reported in them.
  14. Happy birthday, Caselynn! Enjoy!!
  15. I suspect I have been celiac for many years but was in denial about it. (I am self-diagnosed, but my Mom was biopsy-diagnosed so the likelyhood that my problems were from celiac made sense. When I fianlly went gluten-free about 20 months ago and saw my symptoms clear up, I knew.) It was only a few weeks in that I made some gluten-free cornbread, and after...
  16. Hi Prickly! When I've been glutened I would be more than happy to cut anyone who messed with my food. But I'm feeling pretty good right now so I would probably go with your idea of marking them. Or maybe keeping them in a locked box inside the fridge...and booby trapping it. Open Original Shared Link
  17. If the relish and mayo were used before you went gluten-free, they could be contaminated. If you or someone in your home spread either on some bread or a bun and then dipped the knife back in, they now contain gluten. You need new jars and need to make sure no one else in the house uses them.
  18. Here is another website that might help: Open Original Shared Link I know exactly how discouraged and disgusted you feel! Getting cornstarch back has saved my sanity. I too often said, "If it were just gluten this would be easy!" Once you get used to knowing ALL of the things that might contain corn, even though your diet and even activities (like blowing...
  19. If you're the adventurous type, you could make your own. You might even start a new tradition - you and your daughter could make them together. And of course they will be better because you can personalize the messages. I just did a quick Google search and found this, but there are other recipes. Good luck and have fun. 20. China Village was right downtown but I don't remember the street. One of the main ones though. I've been in SD for almost nine years now so it might not be there anymore although it had been there for a LONG LONG time, so maybe it still is. I grew up in Canterbury but lived in Plainfield, Voluntown, Lisbon, and Norwich at various times. My tips for New...
  21. Hey Loey, is China Village still there? Do they have gluten-free, and are they as good as they used to be? I used to LOVE that place! Open Original Shared Link
  22. Lots of us are self-diagnosed. Some got tested but came back negative. (False negatives are fairly common.) But if someone feels better on a gluten-free diet, that indicates that they either have celiac or non-celiac gluten intolerance. My Mom had biopsy-diagnosed celiac. I, without insurance, never got tested, but the gluten-free diet "cured" my psoriasis...
  23. I was there for the blizzard of '78. By the time they let us out of work it was 3:30 and the snow was already over the bumpers of our cars. I had a VW Beetle and my Dad (who worked in the same place) followed me home. He told me not to stop for any reason - even at the stop signs! He said just roll down your window so you can see if anyone is coming, and...
  24. You'll love them. Close the cover so they'll cook more quickly, but you'll still have to turn them to get them brown on all sides. It won't take long and I promise, they taste better than restaurant fries!
  25. DEFINITE No-no! I believe Ore-Ida frozen fries are safe. You can either deep fry your own at home, or better yet, fry them in just a thin layer of oil in a frying pan, flipping them often. They are really good that way. You can make a big batch and put some back in the freezer. Then when you want more you can cook them in the oven, but they'll taste a...
