  1. Mom made all of her condiments from scratch even before she was diagnosed with celiac. My Dad had asthma and was allergic to all of the artificial coloring, flavoring, and preservatives in foods. Mom was a fabulous cook and all of my friends used to complain that THEIR Moms couldn't cook like mine.
  2. Maybe they have come up with a different name for pink slime? Whatever it is, I wouldn't buy it.
  3. LFitts, it isn't uncommon for us to show great improvement at first, and then to slide back into being sick. Some of it could be due to other (most likely temporary) intolerances, and some of it could just be the body is still healing. Definitely check for cross contamination, but if you find that there is no chance of it, just give it time. And DO keep a...
  4. Got corn starch back. Seem to have gotten nightshades back. Although I haven't tested ASPERIN yet, I seem to do OK with the salicylates in most fruits and veggies now. I can eat chocolate again too. There are a bunch of things I haven't tested yet. How did I do it? By sticking to nothing but whole foods for a year. Then I added back one thing at a...
  5. I don't know, but I DID have that instant mouth blister thing happen to me while eating Hagen Daz chocolate ice cream once. It is gluten-free, corn-free and soy-free, so I just assumed I was reacting to chocolate because it never happened with vanilla. That was a long time ago. I hadn't touched chocolate since until I got those Pamela's cookies a couple of...
  6. I agree 1000%! Where I live it seems everyone goes to the chiropractor. And they go over and over again. Even for bone problems, I think they do more harm than good. When you get "adjusted" frequently, all you are doing is stretching the ligaments so they no longer keep things in place. And there is one quack here who insists he can "cure" celiac disease...
  7. I wear jeans every day. If you get the right brand and size, they are comfortable (to me). Some brands don't fit me right. Some of my friends love the brands that I hate. We are all built differently, and jeans are all made differently. For example, I like the look and texture of Lee jeans, but they just don't fit me correctly. Wranglers fit a bit better...
  8. I just LOVE happy endings!! When I was a kid we had a cat that disappeared for several weeks. She came back well fed and smelling of perfume! She was a gorgeous white angora, and I think some lady decided to keep her as an indoor cat. She must have escaped eventually, and she came home. Then there was my cat, Don't Jump. She was a half grown kitten who...
  9. You know, I hadn't thought about it, but I used to get hiccups like that. I would bite into a piece of fresh lemon to get rid of them, but they'd be back withing an hour or two. This would go on for several days, then I'd be OK for a week or so. Then they'd be back. I never noticed what triggered them, but since going gluten-free, I don't seem to get them...
  10. No, my only sals reaction was psoriasis. What is your reaction? If it isn't hives and breathing then what you have is an intolerance, not an allergy. If you get sick to your stomach, you won't need an epipen.
  11. WONDERFUL!! I'm so glad you had this opportunity! I wish I had had someone take pics of me and my baby elephant, but I know just how you feel. I's SO happy for you!
  12. Unfortunately, our reactions are often worse after being gluten-free for a while. My gut symptoms used to be very mild, but I got glutened a while back and I was SICK! The preservative thing makes sense to me too. When I first started it seemed I had troble with everything. I had gut reactions to sweet potatoes and leafy greens. The nutritionist I saw...
  13. I seem to be overcoming my sals sensitivity too. I haven't tried blueberries yet, but I have been eating spices, and spices are high in sals. The thing is, sals never bothered my gut. They made my psoriasis flare badly. I've been eating spicy bison hot dogs, and I also made pork pie with allspice, and clove. I ate it twice a day for several days (because...
  14. There are a variety of gluten withdrawal symptoms. You may get some, all, or none of them. Moodiness, hunger, brain fog, the headaches of course, and others. Also, a lot of us feel fantastic at first, then have a bit of a relapse. I know I did. After two weeks I felt better than I had in my life. Then I started feeling tired all the time and ran into...
  15. When I went to my nutritionist I was only able to eat 11 foods (if you count butter and salt as foods). She told me I was reacting to pesticide and artificial fertilizer residues, and that I should try going totally organic. I did, and was able to add quite a few foods. I even tested the theory by once again trying non-organics of the same foods I had added...
  16. Pamela's website is WONDERFUL! They have an allergy chart that lists all of their products and possible allergens on one page. Open Original Shared Link I have written down a list of all the ones I can have and keep it in my purse so next time I'm in "the big city" I can buy some of the ones my local store doesn't carry. (Of course I will read the label...
  17. Mark, if you can't tolerate corn, I think you can find some asperin that doesn't have corn starch, or go to your health food store and buy some willow bark capsules. I myself am highly senstive to salicylates and cannot take asperin nor Advil, nor Aleve. When my corn sensitivity was severe, I had to have Tylenol made at a compounding pharmacy. I can now tolerate...
  18. Adalaide, I only have one thing to say to you: ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS!!!!!!!!!!))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
  19. ALWAYS READ THE LABEL!! Even if you shop in a store where they have a gluten-free section, some shopper might have picked something up in a different part of the store, then noticed they had a gluten-free version of it and just plopped the gluteny one on the shelf and taken the gluten-free one instead. Or maybe something that always used to be gluten-free...
  20. It sounds to me like "winter itch". You may not think your skin is dry, but it is. The outside air is dry in winter, and inside with the heat on it is even worse. I have gotten winter itch every year now for the past 20 or so years, and lotions really don't help much. One thing I have found that helps a little is that I have replaced my anti-perspirant with...
  21. I'm late to this thread, but I can offer some encouragement. Your tumor sounds exactly like the one a friend of mine had. It was benign, but it was fast growing. She had to have surgery too. She was 50 years old at the time and came through the surgery with flying colors. Just a few days after she got home I was visiting her and freaking out when she got...
  22. Please read this thread, and then check out all of the threads in the DH section. Whether or not you are doing damage to your gut, if you have DH and keep eating gluten, this is what can happen to you. https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/98656-pictures-of-dh-rash-biopsy-site-and-skin-shedding/ I would say that if the bloodwork came back indicating...
  23. I wouldn't do the lunchmeats or bacon. You could make your own condiments. I know it's a pain, but Mom did it. When I was strictly whole foods, I still didn't give up my coffee. But you have had problems with corn in the past, right? So if you do tea, try to get loose tea. I make mine in a French press. Juices should be OK, but they really aren't good...
  24. Vitamin deficiencies?
  25. And I'll be the one with the banjo. Oh wait! Do they ALLOW banjo's in Heaven??
