  1. A HIDA scan tests the function of your gallbladder. You don't have to be in an attack. It measures how well your GB squeezes bile when the hormone CCK is sent to it from the duodenum. They inject the CCK into an IV and measure how your GB works. The CCK hormone is made in, and sent from the duodenum. The reason why people get GB symptoms after being...
  2. It might be a good idea to have a test for SIBO if you aren't tolerating any grains? I love coconut oil, but haven't tried baking with coconut flour. It's supposed to be wonderful for preventing blood sugar spikes too?
  3. If you've shifted to more fruits and veggies, rather than breads and sweets, you'll lose weight. Malabsorption could be weighing in too? I found I was losing weight because I was eating less calories, not less food. If you have a lot of anxiety, you may be anemic? It sure doesn't help to have someone throw out the C word! I wish people would think...
  4. I like Burt's Bees gloss. Don't know if it's available there?
  5. I like Earth Balance soy free spread, or Nutivia coconut oil. I use them on veggies, etc. I was surprised that I liked the coconut oil so well. It has a lot of health benefits too.
  6. Ultrasounds look for stones or sludge blocking the gallbladder or bile ducts. A HIDA scan tests if the gallbladder knows to squeeze when it's supposed to. It's a test for gallbladder function. I complained of stinging pain and nausea. I thought it was my GB. I got an ultrasound and it was fine. From then on if I complained about those symptoms my Dr...
  7. I agree that it sounds like an additional food intolerance. Soy does that to me. It's in all sorts of things. Did the broth you used for your soup have MSG or autolyzed yeast extract? They can give me trouble too. Sometimes we know to look to our food logs for certain foods, but seasonings, spices, and additives aren't as obvious. I hope you can get...
  8. A lot of us go through life with a DX of IBS. We call IBS "I Be Stumped" around here. It's really more of a symptom than a diagnosis. They are just starting to realize that Celiac disease is not as rare as they once thought. Most Dr.s don't think to test for it. Your low vitamin levels are a pretty good indication that you're not absorbing things correctly...
  9. How frustrating! Maybe the biopsy will tell more? Have you had your gallbladder tested for the burning sensation? Not just ultrasound, but HIDA scan too? Dr.s that don't stay up on the latest information say that celiac disease is a failure to thrive/diarhea in babies with European descent. That leaves most of us off the Ceiac "list"! I was...
  10. Topomax! I forgot about that one. I went on it for migraines and had extreme brain fog. I felt like a stoner. Went to the Hospital for a test and got hopelessly lost in their maze to the radiology dept. LOL I went off it after about 1 month because I couldn't function on it. This was a couple of years ago, long before I had even heard of Celiac.
  11. I gave Dr. Murray the list of meds that were mentioned by others here. Once all of my tests came back there was no mention of toxicity problem from a past med. I don't know how they rule it out? I was told that reacting to additional foods as time goes on can often be from a bacterial overgrowth. The bacteria emit toxins as they consume what's in the...
  12. I'm so happy to see you're doing better! You were having a hard time for a while. Your post should help encourage others that are going through a rough patch.
  13. Try taking a digestive enzyme when you eat. The starches can be hard to digest when you have damage from Celiac. Most of us find that taking probiotics is very helpful too. Healing can be a slow process. It's not unusual to have weird symptoms like yours as you go along.
  14. The foods you reacted to could possibly have soy or soy oil used in making them? Be aware of what your reactions are when you eat anything with soy. After going gluten-free I found I reacted very strongly to soy. Before going gluten-free I had no idea I had problems with it. In fact, I used to eat soy nuts.
  15. We just finished off a bag and opened a new one last night. I got realy scared when I saw this post! We lost a wonderful dog to the tainted with melamine food a few years ago. I checked both bags and they are safe.
  16. It seems to be pretty common to have secondary intolerances once we are gluten-free. Dairy and soy seem to be at the top of the list? Maybe gluten symptoms counteracted symptoms from something else, so you weren't aware? It might also mean that you need to do more healing? With a "leaky gut" things can slip out into your blood stream and cause reactions...
  17. I react to extremely trace amounts of gluten and don't react to eggs. I tried Eggland's Best brand, which is fed a high soy feed and reacted to the soy. Soy came through to the egg. I wish I could have chickens here. It would be nice to be able to control what they're fed. The man that does my lawn has chickens and says they eat all sorts of kitchen...
  18. I got a call from Mayo. The blood test they want done will be sent to me by mail, blood drawn at a lab here, then sent back to them. It's for Autoimmune Gastrointestinal Dsymotility (AGID) It's extremely rare. I don't think anyone except Mayo would think to test for it? It looks like they want to check out every possibility and be sure of my DX and treatment...
  19. I'm back from Mayo Clinic, Rochester. I was referred there by Mayo in FL. Got a battery of blood tests, hydrogen breath test, capsule endoscope, consultation with Neurologist (some tests), consultation with ENT (scope of throat, hearing test). I was originally DXed Celiac in late June 2011, with negative blood test and severe damage noticeable with...
  20. It's normal to have a variety of odd symptoms as you heal and adjust to the new diet. Be sure you aren't getting any trace gluten. Even a very tiny amount can get your system raging. I also recommend getting a hydrogen breath test for SIBO if this continues. If you have SIBO you could get reactions from the toxins they emit as they consume your food.
  21. Ask for SIBO testing. A bacterial overgrowth can give Celiac-like symptoms. The bacteria emit toxins as they eat what's in your system. I see you were given anti-biotics in the past. Being treated once may not be enough? If you need miralax, that's more evidence that there may be a SIBO problem. Are you taking antacids/PPIs? That contributes as well...
  22. It looks like I'll be off the cereal for a week without trying? I have to fast for some tests, some days I can only eat certain things, and I have to eat nothing after 7am. They joke about the fasting/food restrictions. They call it the "Mayo Diet". I've been very impressed with the facility and the way they run it. They put the patient's comfort very...
  23. Singulair is supposed to be for allergies. If that turns out to be one of the culprits it's kind of ironic? We take them for our environmental allergies..and get food "allergies" from it?
  24. I mostly eat whole foods with the exception of gluten-free Rice Krispies, and Koala crisp cereal. Both made in gluten-free facilities. I don't eat any grains, except brown rice. No breads or baked goods. I have my own dishes and pans, even got my own microwave. I'm crazy careful..and will only eat food I've prepared myself...and yet I still react to more...
  25. He wasn't clear if the meds induce the damage in everyone, but said they are studying genes along with this. The damage may happen in people with certain genes..or it could be across the board? he seemed to indicate that it caused the damage. He asked to me toss the medication question out to the group to see if there are meds that keep coming up....
