  1. Maybe add some Kombucca to your diet? I had a lot of problems with C and once I started drinking just about 2oz. in the morning helped. Also, do you eat raw foods? I know raw foods don't agree with some of us, so we get to where we sort of edit them out of our diets. Try a salad of apple, celery, walnuts, and some lettuce. Dress with a bit of honey/olive...
  2. Gastritis just started for me in August. I've been gluten-free for 15 mos. I've also taken soy, dairy, peanuts, refined sugar, corn, most fruits, and tomatoes/peppers out of my diet. No relief yet...and no known cause.
  3. It seems like it's impossible to get away from all corn completely? I hadn't thought about the Dentist using it. I've had bad teeth all my life, with many fillings and now crowns. I've found since I've been on probiotics for over a year my tarter and plaque level went down. Interesting side effect.
  4. We are all different in our reactions and how long they last. It depends a lot on where you are in your healing, your overall health, etc. You will find that each glutening is different for you too. Some lessons we learn the hard way. Some will have symptoms for a few days, or weeks. I have had some last around 2-3 months because it knocks down the villi...
  5. LOL..sounds like good plan? Our families seemed to get together less and less until finally 3 years ago we stopped all together. It makes the holidays much easier to deal with. I'll make a turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes and some sort of veggie. Easy stuff. Maybe a crustless pumpkin pie made with coconut milk? Last Christmas was...
  6. I just use a small pocket sized notepad. It's a convenient size for me to carry if I want to. I write the date and just list everything I eat. If I have any symptoms I write them on the back of the page that faces the list page..next to the list. If I suspect some food has caused an irritation I underrline it. I also occasionally jot down my weight and...
  7. I would ask to be tested for Celiac. Ask for the full panel. Be aware that 20-30% of us test negative though. The best trial is a strict gluten-free diet for at least 60 days. Until your testing is done continue to eat gluten so you have it in your sytem.
  8. Could be gallbladder? If it's low functioning it can cause those symptoms. An ultrasound will show if you have stones, but you would need a HIDA scan to guage the level of function you have. It also sounds like gastritis..but the cause is the big question. I developed it myself and don't know why.
  9. Wow..it sounds like you got a Dr. that will know what you're dealing with? I hope you get good answers. Here in this part of the country we pharmacies called The Medicine Shoppe. They'll mix up meds. You could try using your search engine and type in compounding pharmacy and the name of your city and state. Hopefully something will pop up?
  10. I've used a variety of brands. I have to watch for dairy free soy free though. Read the ingredients and if you aren't intolerant to anything take them. Switch them up once in a while? Have you tried Kombucca tea? The probiotic is very concentrated in it and it's a nice supplement to take occasionally. It's kind of like a tart cider. If you find that...
  11. I went gluten-free and my symptoms lessoned. Then I noticed I was reacting badly to soy, then dairy, corn, peanuts, acidic foods, spices, high sugar content, the list keeps growing. I just dropped rice so now I'm grain free. I recommend keeping a food diary and log any symptoms you have. It's a good idea to drop dairy for a while, and I read on Mercola...
  12. Hmm..can you try using paper plates or avoid using the water at work to see if it makes a difference? A lot of us need digestive enzymes at first, along with probiotics. These help digest your food so your system doesn't have to struggle so hard to break it down so you get the nutrients. Another thing to keep an eye on..dairy, soy, and corn. Many...
  13. A glutening can knock down the villi in the small intestine. The hormone CCK, which tells the gallbladder to squeeze is made there. So, a glutening can cause a lack of the CCK signal being delivered triggering pain. Normal function should improve as you heal.
  14. Soy is evil and really hard to avoid. I knew I'd get sick after eating out sometimes before my DX but never knew it was probably from the soy oil they use so much of. The theory that there's no soy protein in the oil so shouldn't bother anyone is nonsense! It's hard to get multivitamins that are completly soy free too. The vitamin E or D they use is from...
  15. You could be a sero-negative Celiac? Around 20-30% of us are. If your testing is done you can try gluten-free and see how you feel? Fluffy stools could indicate that your gallbladder isn't working properly. More of a reason to try the gluten-free diet IMO.
  16. Shroomie was posting at the same time as me. Yep..try omitting corn. Actually, 90% of all soy, and 85% of all corn is genetically modified to produce pesticide. I stay away from anything GMO now.
  17. I really suspected you had SIBO. Be sure to take probiotics. The Xifaxin kills all bacteria, even the good kind. You need to replace it with a supplement. Probiotics also help get rid of bad bacteria that the antibiotic may have missed. It takes a while to heal. The SIBO causes damage to the intestine just like Celiac. There's a thread here about...
  18. Could you share your chicken potato soup recipe? I hate the rice noodles, but loved chicken soup. With potatoes, I think it would be a good soup for me.
  19. The herbs seem like possible culprits in your case? I find it interesting that you are trying to boost your immune response, while they are trying to dull mine down. The stronger your immune system the harder it can react to any trace gluten. I hate the idea of antibiotics too, but if you need them be sure to take probiotics at the same time. I was told...
  20. Have you tried taking him off all grains? Some of us just don't seem to tolerate any at all. The loss of iron would suggest either malabsorption..or a bleed somewhere? If your son takes iron supplements it will make his stool hard, and can cause hemerhoids in the colon. When the stool passes through, it could cause them to bleed...causing a loss of iron...
  21. I hadn't seen this before. It explains well why some of us don't seem to be able to tolerate any grains.
  22. Making unstuffed egg rolls today. Too lazy to get out the rice paper wrappers and fry. Brown ground chicken and break up as it cooks. Add a package of cole slaw cabbage and wilt. Spinkle with salt and generous amount of garlic powder. Serve with sauce drizzled over. Sauce is a bit of pineapple juice mixed with vinegar, cane sugar, and water. Thickened...
  23. I was very slow to heal and had a second scope 6 months after my Celiac DX. The Gi's opinion when seeing the state of my intestine was refractory sprue. A very scary thing to hear! The biopsy report tells the condition of the cells they find. If it's refractory sprue your lymphocites will be high. Mine were not. I ended up going to Mayo and they did...
  24. Soy causes extreme nausea in me. Your reaction could be different. My best advise is to keep a food log and mark down any symptoms you may get. Many food reactions are delayed and having a written record helps put the puzzle together. One thing I would add..about 90% of the soy in the US has been genetically modified..around 85% of corn has too. They...
  25. Ask for a SIBO test. It's a bacterial overgrowth that can damage villi. It can mimick Celiac. As far as the blood tests..it's rediculous to say that you are probably still eating gluten because you can't avoid it. Also..be aware that most Dr.s agree that you have to have DQ2 or DQ8 to be Celiac. They dismiss anything that doesn't fit as not Celiac...
