ARCHIVED Could Not Believe What I Was Hearing!
sariesue replied to Lexi's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's not just with gluten though that helped to create this problem. There are some people out there who make claims of food allergies or intolerances to an ingredient in one food, but say that it is fine in others. It's the people who say that they are allergic to milk so they can't have the cheese on their salad, BUT then order a cheese burger and want... -

ARCHIVED Why Am I So Tired After Eating?
sariesue replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This might be unrelated but why are you switching back and forth between dairy and non-dairy products? Do you have a problem with dairy products? Cheese, sour cream, and mayo all contain dairy. -
ARCHIVED Do Non-Celiacs Intolerants Need To Worry About Cc?
sariesue replied to birdie22's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, because gluten still makes you sick. Exactly how careful might depend on personal tolerances. I am non celiac gluten intolerant, I have no symptoms after eating things that are gluten free but produced in the same facility as foods with gluten. But I'm sure there are some people who can't. Kinda like other allergies/intolerances there are levels of sensitivity... -

I store perishable foods in tupperware, instead of sandwich bags. That way when the food is gone I can wash and reuse the container for something else. Using tupperware also means that dry goods stay fresh longer, so I get a longer shelf life out of them. I tend to make one dinner than reuse the leftovers for other meals in the week. The other day I made... -
Is it possible that your height was previously measured inaccurately? Or that you learned your height at a rounded number? My father shrunk about that much but he has a degenerative disc disease and the discs had completely deteriorated. But the condition is very painful and it is unlikely that it would be the cause of your shrinking without you having serious...

Check out the laws for subletting or whatever arrangement you had in your area. It might not be as easy as telling him that he has to leave. You may need to inform him in writing and give him so many days notice. I know that there are definate legal procedures when working with renters. Like in order to keep a security deposit from a renter, they need to... -
ARCHIVED Glutened-Ooww
sariesue posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I accidentally glutened myself yesterday. I went out to lunch and got a salad made sure there were no croutons in it but forgot to ask about the dressing. Today I am sore pretty much everywhere and my ankles kill in addition to my usual GI symptoms. Does anyone know of a way to make the the pain go away faster? -
ARCHIVED If I Cheat On My Gluten Free Diet, Could I Be More Likely To Get Type 1 Diabetes?
sariesue replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
None that I am aware of. Hot water bottles are rubber, you fill them with water. I think there might be reusable heat packs that have grain. But, they make the fillings out of other materials as well, I had one with cherry pits. You can make one and fill it with rice and dried lavender, but you'd need to be able to sew. -

But you have Ahi, lots and lots of ahi. Then you can make ahi poke. I had to go to 4 grocery stores in CT to find Ahi in August. -

I would call the resturant and ask if they could accommodation you by plating your meal in the kitchen omiting gluten items. If they could put the lobster and the prime rib (minus the au gus) on a plate for me from the reserve stocks I would go because then I don't see it as being any worse than going to a normal restaurant. I would also go if it was set... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With NHS Protocols (UK)
sariesue replied to CR5442's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's because a positive biopsy is still considered to be the gold standard for diagnosis. I don't know about for NHS, but is it possible that the dr's can only use the standards set by NHS to make a dx? Also, does your dx is determines what treatments they will allow. If you do a gluten challenge would they approve testing? Because if they would garuntee... -

Do you have any friends/family in the area who are not gluten free? They could make him healthier snacks than the prepackaged ones. Also one way to make snacks healthier would be to supplement them with a healthy food. Like cheese and gluten crackers or and you could do wheat filled dip for veggies. Instead of just giving him a slice of bread. Gluten pretzles... -
ARCHIVED If I Cheat On My Gluten Free Diet, Could I Be More Likely To Get Type 1 Diabetes?
sariesue replied to alicewa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was dx'd with wheat intolerance last year while planning my wedding, I bounced back and forth between having a gluten-free cake and meal for myself and just eating the meal I wanted. Since I hadn't gone 100% gluten-free yet and was only doing "gluten light" I figured one night wouldn't hurt. So I ate, the gluten cake my mom made, gluten pasta, bread, crab... -

Can you make vegan cupcakes with gluten-free flour? I did a quick google search and found this site, Open Original Shared Link which has a recipe for vegan and gluten free chocolate cupcakes. I think this recipe has coconut frosting, but you could substitute a different flavor instead. -
I think that your case is little different than most if your father is on the Ornish diet as part of his treatment for his heart problem. I know when my grandfather had heart failure he had a very strict no salt diet low fat diet that was crucial to keeping him alive and with it he lived 10 years longer than any dr expected. This special diet was also considered...

Do other members of your household eat gluten? If your house is gluten-free, then I wouldn't bring gluten into the house just for your parents. My house is almost entirely gluten-free, when my parents come visit they eat gluten-free in my house. If we go out to eat they can eat whatever they want. You could offer them the same choice, to either eat gluten...

Have you talked to your your dr about the iron and how it's making you feel? There might be a prescription iron supplement that fits your requirements and is easier to digest if you are currently using otc supplements. Or see if your dr will allow you to cut back on the supplement and instead fortify your diet with high iron foods instead. Or work on accepting... -
The only thing I know about the food at 6 flags is that outside food is NOT allowed in the park, you have to go through the easy process of leaving your park, getting your hand stamped, then returning through the proper gate. You must eat outside food in the parking lot. They won't even let you bring in a water bottle. I tried last summer, when it was over...

Depending on where they eat and how good she is able to learn/stick to the diet paleo should be feasible even when traveling. It may restrict the variety of what she can eat on the road but, finding a good choice at a restaurant should be possible. Like salads, plain grilled chicken, many restaurants have a grilled fish option. Depending on the restaurant...

ARCHIVED Celiacs And Non-Celiacs, Recipe For Disaster?
sariesue replied to Leper Messiah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is probably a pretty stupid question but do you make sure that you always wash your hands before you touch your food, eat, touch your gluten-free surfaces? I ask because if you touch a counter that has gluten on it, then reach into a bag of gluten-free pretzels they now are contaminated. Also, do you share condiments with your flatmates? Things like... -
If going over to friend's houses is currently too hard for you, why not host tea at your house? that way you have control over what the menu is and how it's prepared.

I heard that too. I have also heard of anorexics using vegetarianism as a way to cover for their anorexia too. But, the joke wasn't very funny.
