  1. Lol, I can add the non-seafood (just ate a baked potato) - ironically iron and iodine seem to overlap. A baked potato is pushing it, unfortunately. I eat meat...and nuts...lots of it. Thanks for posting this! Sigh, miss seafood. I could go for a dozen raw gulf oysters right now.
  2. I'm on the fence. I see organ meats listed as high iodine - and I can't do high iodine right now, DH. That's why I chose the supplement, above - it's vegetable source and I assume lower in iodone. I'll give it a few more days. And quite frankly I've never been able to choke down organ meats.
  3. I tried some charcoal tablets from Walgreens the other day. Don't know if it was that or the homemade chicken soup but I recovered within 24 hours. I must admit it was a bit of a shock to feel sick (suspected cc) since stomach issues haven't been my thing but hey - things change. I felt a little panicky and that went away, too. My dh "warning spot" rose...
  4. Ok, took my first iron supplement today. Now I want to hurl. It's Solgar Gentle Iron 25 mg - gluten free. I read they can make you queasy but this is GROSS. I honestly just want to puke and get it over with. I can't take it at night because I can't take it with calcium and that's when I take my cal/mag and quite honestly I don't know if it would solve...
  5. I would think the explanation behind the referral and threats to remove her from school will be obvious in her medical records at school and the clinic which is why I advise getting them. Also, check the school records - whoever is threatening to remove her from school should have written a letter, at least. Get those records. After you read the records...
  6. Everyone responds to different things (gaining weight). There are a few threads in here about it - search for them. You need to get with the doctor you mentioned in your first post. Any attorney could handle this. If you can find one that specializes in medical or education or psychiatric diseases (since that's what they are alleging) civil rights?...
  7. I loved Athens. Of course, it was pre-gluten-free. Baklava is out, fried street pastries are out. Lots of meat on a stick available. Stuffed tomatoes (rice, herbs) are fabulous. I was there on winter and fresh tangerines were on every corner - I ate them by the bagfull. Some Break Bars are supposed to be gluten-free and they will be everywhere. Buy...
  8. Yeah, I'm at the point where when I pass a bakery with beautiful cakes in the window I literally see a box of rat poison. And my DH areas itch in sympathy and remembrance. I ate some gluten-free Lays at my FIL's this week. Knew better (cc from gluteny hands in the bag, etc.). Within 30 minutes I wanted to hurl. Won't do that again.
  9. Get a letter from her Pediatrician detailing the situation. Wave it in the faces of those who are harassing her. Teach her to carry her own bread to the cafeteria. She's going to have to start taking food to the cafeteria or eating at other places, other times. She has to eat - and eat healthily. She has to learn how to manage her food. It's tough...
  10. There's a Lyme thread somewhere in this board with tons of info. Search for it. Good luck!
  11. Does anyone know of another skin disorder/rash that resolves with gluten and iodine withdrawal??? I'd love to read about it! Iodine allergy is the only other disorder I can find that responds to iodine withdrawal. I can't figure out how they only dx it with a test that is up to 37% false negative rate. Why don't they dx it by iodine withdrawal, also?
  12. I had to add more vitamins today (doc called and apparently I'm super low on d and iron). Anyhoo, I am buying more Country Life every day. gluten-free, and they have d from non-fish source so I don't worry about iodine. I bought solgar iron-not from organs (again, that iodine thing). I also take Country Life cal/mag and daily total one (no iodine...
  13. My ND called to let me know results are in. She needs time to go over them but I need more Vit D, iron IMMEDIATELY. Genetics look like dqa1, dqbi??? Need to set up an appt. to go in. Input?
  14. If you ever start having problems again, you may want to try something without seaweed (iodine) in it. I was looking at DE gluten-free products the other day and noticed high iodine ingredients. I like their products but passed since I want to develop habits for products that are safe during a DH outbreak.
  15. My doctors have always gone by the "how you feel" approach - which was why they were my doctors. I didn't waste time on the others.
  16. In my late teens/ 20's I would get lower back pain. To the point I couldn't lay flat. This coincides with when I had GI symptoms (probably from gluten). I found a very good masseuse that worked me over, pressure points, stretching, etc. Felt like I'd been caned but it worked. She said my nerves were tangled in muscles, and there were giant knots (this...
  17. I'm so sorry. I know your pain is 3x - yours and each one of theirs.
  18. There's a low-iodine cookbook and guidelines on the thyca website. Google it.
  19. Wow. Yes, I was on Armour and had to switch. I will definitely ask about this next time I have my meds made. Thanks for bringing this up!
  20. If you want a biopsy go to a derm. DH is very hard to biopsy. If you want to see if it acts like DH, go on a low-iodine diet. If it recedes at all, it's a good indicator that it's DH.
  21. I'm on a compounded version from my compounding pharmacy. I asked if it was gluten-free and iodine free and they said yes. Haven't asked about anything else. Interesting thought re: absorption.
  22. Fage is fabulous. Love peach.
  23. So, went to Buddy's Grill. They have a nice sized and diverse menu. I was quizzing the waitress about cc, BBQ sauce ingredients....she explained her "boss" is gluten-free si they are all well versed in the kitchen, etc. So far so good. Our waitress overheard me explaining to our son (as he was dawdling giving my phone to hubby) that I can't touch anything...
  24. Hey there - our ND appt. for our son is tomorrow. He is still eating gluten, but we want to test him for genetics and antibodies. What are the record tests for kids? I've heard there are specific ones that are better than others.
  25. Sure. Why not? Supposedly only 25% of Celiacs have DH. They think there may be specific DH genes but so far there's no solid research. Can't remember where I read that-I've read a zillion things it seems.
