I only had to lay off dairy for a couple weeks before I could tolerate it. Having said that; I have dh & then had to go off dairy b/c of the iodine content only. I'm back on iodine & do fine with dairy. Not so with soy. I have a feeling soy will be a no-no for me for life. Olivia, you may want to keep track of how soy affects you as many celiacs cannot...

ARCHIVED 615 Views Tonight

I will also say hello & welcome! You're right. This IS a great resource & I don't know what I would have done without it. Well, yes I do -----I would have gone completely stark raving mad. -
I've been cc'd twice. The first was very early on & I hadn't hardly begun to heal yet so can't determine much by that one. The second time --- it was close to 4 weeks -- it came on sort of slow but ended up pretty much gangbusters.

ARCHIVED Teeth Cleaning At Dentist's
squirmingitch replied to lovetapioca's topic in Super Sensitive People
I had a crown mold done & felt crappy for a day or two after. Just general crappiness sort of flu-ish but no fever. I wondered if I was going to have a gluten reaction b/c I felt so yukky but no reaction other than feeling lousy. I had a root canal & told the endodontist about being celiac & he assured me there was no gluten in anything he uses... -
Yep, the sandpaper feeling. Had it all around my neck. Now it's my back. Prickly's miracle cure --- Vanicream. They get to that stage where there's the tiny dot of scab or whatever & your clothing rubs against it & it's irritating as heck. Vanicream does the job. I was wondering about you today Jane. Wondering when you will get your biopsy results...
-
Sure thing. Let us know how you progress.

Good advice from Prickly; in fact I used some Vanicream after my shower today. Also anything with 20% Benzocaine in it (Orajel, Bactine, pain relieving cream). And a couple 3 shots of the hard stuff --- nighty nite.

Descriptions of DH "Types"
squirmingitch replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes, I quite agree. I wish he were with us today so he could expound on his findings. You're right -- the description & detail are astounding. WHY haven't we seen this text incorporated into the stuff we find online? WHY?!!! It verifies what so many of us have been saying for so long simply through our own observations & chatter with each other.... -
Descriptions of DH "Types"
squirmingitch replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My hubs & I are just sitting here with mouths agape at this! This guy "GETS" it! He's got it all down --- he nails it. It's such a revelation to see it written about in such informed detail. I'm over the moon that you found this & posted it Prickly. This should be made a sticky & stay at the top of the dh topic. This is phenomenal Prickly. THANK... -
Amen to that! But they like to play God.

I would say stop the pears. You can try them again in a few months. AND I would say don't try any new foods until you're sure your recent glutening has done it's deed & left you. This can show up from what I understand, maybe as much as 12 days after the glutening. Soooo good your family is at least trying to make an effort to understand. Give them...

Yep, my compounding pharmacy says even though it's OTC medication the law requires a script for compounding ANYTHING. I just wanted sal free, iodine free, gluten-free Aleve. Guess I get to go to a doctor & pay to get a script. Gluten-Free ---- that sucks! Are they stoopid?
-
It sure sounds like early dh & celiac to me. Do you ever take naps? I find mine also itches almost as bad during naps as it does at night. In fact, if I get prone --- naps, bedtime, OR laying prone on sofa with just head propped on pillow for say 2 hrs. watching TV then I tend to get new bumps & blisters. I think there's some connection to being in...

ARCHIVED Is There Always A Visible Rash?
squirmingitch replied to GiGi F's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Listen to Prickly! I wholeheartedly agree with her. We've both "BEEN THERE" & don't wish another single soul to "be there". It sucks. It more than sucks. You know, dh is called THE SUICIDAL ITCH and they ain't just whistling Dixie! I only wish like heck I had known I had dh when mine was teeny tiny & not widespread. Ohhhhhh, how I wish I could... -
ARCHIVED Is There Always A Visible Rash?
squirmingitch replied to GiGi F's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
GIGI, Just a heads up..... when you go gluten-free & THEN you go back to gluten for the testing for diagnosis which is what you have to do --- almost everyone has way worse reactions to gluten than they had before going gluten-free. So you might want to think about not putting that off too long before you start the testing process. -
ARCHIVED New To celiac disease/gluten-free Diet - Hungry!
squirmingitch replied to kris10h's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry Kristen, I didn't answer your question very well did I? Before I forget, I do want to warn to to stay away from oats for now. You can try certified gluten-free oats in 4 or 6 months maybe. There is a very steep learning curve to this diet. Shop the perimeter of the store & stay away from going down the aisles. My best advice to you... -
ARCHIVED New To celiac disease/gluten-free Diet - Hungry!
squirmingitch replied to kris10h's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup Kristen, it's an old familiar tune. It's like almost everybody goes through it. RAVENOUS! Protein, protein, protein, fat with the protein for digestive purposes. Nuts (certified gluten-free of course). You're going to need more complex carbs so you don't get that sudden drop. You may (probably will) feel like you have blood sugar issues, get an "out there... -

Well, I wouldn't say I'm having iodine w/o problems per se. I'm having iodine but not lots of seafood. I have 2, only 2 shrimp, medium sized once a week, having milk & cheese but they are from a local dairy & have less iodine than anything in the grocery store. I had my first WHOLE egg in forever it seems, this week (soft egg on flax toast) &... -
ARCHIVED Crazy Doctor, Crazy Mil, Making Me Crazy
squirmingitch replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It doesn't make your situation any better with your MIL but if she's been battling cancer for half a decade then she's doubtless shall we call it "cranky"? We don't feel good because of what we're going through --- imagine her situation. She can't feel good either. And she's probably more than a little jealous of you. You can go gluten-free & heal. While... -

squirmingitch replied to squirmingitch's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I've been doing low sals & getting more iodine. I have documented a true & real correlation to stress & yesterday an event happened that sent my stress levels off the charts. Places that had not completely healed but had not itched for days suddenly became raised, red & itching. Today has been pretty calm & I've had far less itching. ... -
ARCHIVED Is There Always A Visible Rash?
squirmingitch replied to GiGi F's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You could be gluten sensitive or it could be early form of dh presenting. One think is for sure --- you went gluten free & the problem resolved itself. That's a very big clue right there. There has not been that much research done on dh to document all of it's presentations in all of it's phases. We are all different. Many of us believe that someone...
