ARCHIVED Celiacs who struggle with dairy...a2 milk?
squirmingitch replied to DandelionH's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I thankfully don't have any problem with dairy but I do have friends who have big problems with it. As soon as I read the article in the link Gemini provided, I sent the link to my friends. One already answered back. I knew her husband, whom I used to work for, couldn't drink milk or eat ice cream but I didn't know he can, however, have cheese, sour cream... -

This is amazingly interesting. Yes, thanks for bringing this subject up Dandelion! -
ARCHIVED Please help, tests results are not good
squirmingitch replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I really don't know much about the technicalities of Lupus either but my hubs & I have a very dear friend - she's like a sister to us both - who has had Lupus for at least 20 years now -- probably more like 25 years, possibly more. She is now 68 or 69 and she has managed it very well. She's had a few bumps in the road but she really has done quite well... -

Gosh Karen, I'm so sorry this is happening to you. It sounds like you read in the dh section. I'm going to repeat some things so please have patience. Just trying to get to the bottom of things for you. Have you checked? Shampoo, lotions, any topical product that can get on your hands & in your mouth or lesions or mucus membranes. How...

ARCHIVED Wheat allergy test or wait for endoscopes
squirmingitch replied to Zalira's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am concerned that she has a wheat allergy & that takes precedence over doing a challenge for an endoscopy for celiac. If she does test out to have a wheat allergy then there is no point in her risking eating gluten for an endoscopy as it would be rather moot at that point as the end will be the same --- NO WHEAT which basically boils down to eat gluten... -
I would also add regarding the Diet Pepsi..... even though that's "diet" Pepsi; isn't that still bad for diabetics?

ARCHIVED Wheat allergy test or wait for endoscopes
squirmingitch replied to Zalira's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You certainly have celiac disease symptoms. Yes, you will have to eat gluten every day for 2 weeks before the endoscopy. Open Original Shared Link But the throat thing worries me, that you feel like you're choking & the ulcer on your throat. That sounds more like allergy. I worry that this could develop into anaphylaxis even the next time you... -
ARCHIVED DH and negative blood panel - how to progress?
squirmingitch replied to jbrum77634's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi jbrum. I take it you are either in GB or Canada? When you say the "odd batch of IBS" --- please explain that statement. Do you mean it comes & goes? Infrequent? Do you associate it with anything you've eaten? Or do you figure that's just what happens sometimes as a matter of ordinary life? How many years have you had "the odd batch of IBS"? ... -
ARCHIVED Patches has leg cramps
squirmingitch replied to bartfull's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't know much about cats so I can't help you out on either food or his leg cramping but I do think a trip to the vet would be a good idea. I sure hope this thing with Patches isn't serious or causes him pain. I like the idea of a ramp to the bed, sofa, places he would have to jump up & down to or from. -
ARCHIVED 10 Year Old Son's Labs

Thank you so much for posting the doctor & hospital in the Doctor section. One day that post is going to save some child (& parents) a whole lot of grief. -
ARCHIVED 10 Year Old Son's Labs
squirmingitch replied to Corrie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Corrie, I'm so glad you pursued & persisted! You said it yourself that your guilt is irrational. Grant sounds like a super kid and he's going to do fantastic! Please, when you get a chance, will you post the ped GI's contact info. on the Doctor section? It would be great for parents looking for a celiac savvy GI in the Cincinnati area. It could... -
ARCHIVED Should I get retesed
squirmingitch replied to Seeking's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry for giving you such long reading assignments LOL! Seriously, I had blepharitis that cleared up & disappeared after going gluten free. At the time, I had no idea it could be associated with celiac. Who knew? There's a trick when in public dining & they bring you a salad with croutons AFTER you told them not to. You bury a sugar packet underneath... -
ARCHIVED Should I get retesed
squirmingitch replied to Seeking's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh you're so welcome! I agree with everything you said. We ate pretty healthy too, myself more so than the hubs (he likes his TV snacks). Whole food is good! I love it! It's the way I was raised. Yes, if one has to have a disease, this one is preferable. If you want, after you've been real strict with the diet for a year, then you can go get retested... -

ARCHIVED Should I get retesed
squirmingitch replied to Seeking's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh I'm so glad you feel that way. I was worried that I came off as a little too harsh with you & that was NOT my intent. I wouldn't worry a bit about not having an intestinal biopsy and saying you have celiac. You do have celiac. I think all of us are somewhat defensive since the whole "fad" thing hit so big but we have to protect our health because... -
ARCHIVED Should I get retesed
squirmingitch replied to Seeking's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You're not being irresponsible by not getting the biopsy but you are being irresponsible by not being a stickler about cross contamination. You are only hurting yourself. You are doing damage. You put yourself at increased risk of cancer and other autoimmune diseases. You are damaging your gut and that is serious business. You are risking osteoporosis and... -
Welcome to the club Donna. Okay, take a deep breath and again, just breathe. There is a steep learning curve to the gluten-free diet and protecting yourself from cross contamination (cc). Read this thread & follow the links contained within it. That will give you a ton of information on how to keep yourself safe. As to how long it will take for...

ARCHIVED Newly diagnosed
squirmingitch replied to Donna73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So your primary care doc dx'd you based on the blood work. It's up to you if you want to go through an endoscopy or not. Your primary care doc can monitor you -- that's fine; as long as he/she knows what to do. He/she should probably test your vitamin levels and iron. -
ARCHIVED Neg Biopsy :(
squirmingitch replied to shannon79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Please do not use the word allergy for celiac disease. Celiac disease is not an allergic reaction. It is an immune response which is very different from an allergy. There are people who are allergic to wheat and there are celiacs who have immune responses to wheat, barley & rye and then there are some celiacs who are also allergic to wheat. -
ARCHIVED Mixed test results, is it actually celiac?
squirmingitch replied to sara8246's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As I understand it, yes. Here is the gluten challenge: Open Original Shared Link Confirmed here: Open Original Shared Link There have been just one or two people on here who said they had quit eating gluten a week before or recently prior to a dh biopsy & still got a positive. I can only say that is your choice & decision. If I were going to go... -
Well then, you can see if you can find a derm to biopsy the rash for dh but they seem to be more hesitant than doctors. Derms seem to be an extraordinarily hard headed lot! A dh biopsy is done NEXT to an active lesion NOT ON one. AND your hubs would have to be eating 1-2 slices of gluten bread per day for 8-12 weeks prior to the dh biopsy.

DH itches like there's no tomorrow! It is called the suicidal itch. that gives you an idea of how intensely it itches. HOWEVER, there are many rashes that are associated with celiac disease. Jenny, were the IgA the only celiac tests your husband had? No DgP tests? Do you have a copy or can get a copy of the test results along with the reference ranges &...

ARCHIVED Mixed test results, is it actually celiac?
squirmingitch replied to sara8246's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the heads up nvsmom! Sara, I looked at your photo & it does look like dh does but there are other "rashes" that can look the same. DH is intensely itchy, a bone deep itch that will drive you insane. It tends to really crank up the itch volume at night. Hallmarks of dh are presentation on both sides of the body -- echoing itself so to speak...
