My daughter was sick all weekend. Just like the pre gluten-free days. We racked our brains trying to figure out the culprit. It was right in my cabinet. She had bought Rice Krispie Treats and told me they were gluten-free. She had looked at the label and it said "Contains: Wheat and Milk". It didn't list wheat so she thought she was in the clear. I...

ARCHIVED 3 Genes?
researchmomma replied to beebs's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Skylark, what is the sero equivalent of this The third so-called celiac gene is HLA-DQA1 *0505. ? This stuff is so interesting to me. My daughter had her gene testing at Prometheus but they only reported: Negative for DQ 2 or 8. So I am considering giving them a call to see if they have any further info. She got glutened this weekend and the reaction... -
ARCHIVED How To Ask If Food Is Gluten Free In Restaurants
researchmomma replied to cavernio's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Your post was very helpful. I am wondering about chains. We just visited PF Changs and they seemed very up on the gluten issue. However, my daughter got glutened somewhere this weekend and we are trying to figure it out. I am just wondering if others have been glutened there. I hope not because she loved it. She was a birthday party playing with... -
ARCHIVED Are You "self Diagnosed"?
researchmomma replied to BrittLoves2Run's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter has a long list of symptoms including occipital seizures. She tested negative. However, I was encouraged by what I read about gluten symptoms and a few forum members here suggested that we try the gluten free diet. We have seen amazing changes. We are still in the early stages of eating gluten free but even my skeptic husband is in shock over... -
ARCHIVED Is Your House Completely gluten-free? If Only One Of You Has Celiac?
researchmomma replied to kb27's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We have a gluten free cupboard and a gluten cupboard. However, no gluten flour in our house. My daughter is gluten-free (and I am to support her). I am travelling this week and my husband almost glutened her with some teriyaki sauce. marinade on chicken He realized it before he gave it to her. He said "I almost cut out the outside and fed it to her but... -
Ahhhhh you know me so well! Yes very sarcastic. My friend emailed me and she will have her doctor check in 6 months because she is not malnourished so she can't have Celiac disease. Oh well, I tried.

Mushroom: you said it sister. I have so many ologists for my daughter....can't one of them just look at the entire child and ask what is causing all this??? Great ideas! Prickly, I love that idea of the Ball freezer jars because my daughters thermos holds about 8oz! Are they readily available. Kywylee: we have one of those but I never use it. Just like my standing mixer, it may make a reappearance now that we are gluten free. -

ARCHIVED Freezing Single Batches Of Leftover Soups
researchmomma posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, I want to make a bunch of different soups and freeze left over portions that are easy to heat up via microwave or pan on the stove for my daughter's school lunches. Does anyone have a good way to do this? I really didn't want to have to buy 20 plastic containers (I also don't like heating up plastic in the microwave). Thanks! -
ARCHIVED I'm Really Afraid...
researchmomma replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My daughter is probably non-celiac gluten intolerant. I have been going bonkers trying to find a doctor that BELIEVEs in that in my city because of exactly what you are going through. She is gluten-free and we have seen huge improvements. I actually found a GI/internal Med doc that got fed up with insurance companies so he went back and got a homeopathic... -
ARCHIVED I Am A Terrible Mother
researchmomma replied to kaity's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You aren't a terrible mother. If you were, you wouldn't be posting and frantically trying to figure out what your child will eat. You are feeling overwhelmed because you have a sick child that has to have a specific diet and you can't find anything he eat and you feel limited. It will get better. You are in the right place. What country are you in? If... -

Thanks Lisa! We got to this sushi place a lot so hopefully they will accommodate. They were overwhelmed by my gluten questions but they don't speak the best English. -

Hi All, I am considering purchasing the Triumph Dining cards. Do you think they are worth it? We went to sushi last night and trying to explain my daughters gluten restrictions was impossible. I am curious if the wait staff and chefs really respond positively or if they are annoyed by the card. Thanks!

ARCHIVED General Tips For Italy Or Greece
researchmomma replied to silly-yak-mum's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I have been to both countries and you should have no issues if you bring the restaurant cards. Europe is much more savvy about Celiac and Gluten Intolerance than the US. I agree with BabsV about Greece, it should be great there. They serve mostly grilled meats and veggies and the servers were very nice and will most likely be helpful. I think he will... -

ARCHIVED Other Conditions That React To A Gluten Free Diet
researchmomma replied to MrRoper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There may not be another other "specific gluten related DISEASES" but Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance can wreak havoc on the body including digestive, neurologic and skin issues. Just my two cents. -
ARCHIVED Daughter Diagnosed With celiac disease And Diabetic
researchmomma replied to xjrosie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I sent you a personal note on some donut info and other stuff. Wow, I can relate to the waffle thing. My 12 yo girl is addicted to Eggos. Pamela's makes an amazing pancake and baking mix. I had friends over and they had no idea that they were gluten-free. So get some of that or Better Batter (online). Do you have a thermos for her lunches? I make homemade... -
ARCHIVED New- Understanding Labs
researchmomma replied to Mom-of-Two's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
To help you better understand your test results and your Celiac diagnosis, I recommend the book Healthier Without Wheat. Irish Heart on this Forum recommended it to me and I read it less than a day! It will explain why you are CLEARLY Celiac with this blood work. Definitely get your children tested. Just know that a diagnosis is not always easy. ... -
