ARCHIVED Hain Sea Salt
Adalaide replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That is an interesting question. I would assume they use the cheapest possible salt they can get. Then again I buy unsalted so it doesn't really matter to me. -
ARCHIVED Hain Sea Salt
Adalaide replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I use Real Salt. (It is a brand, it is mined from Utah.) It has no additives at all, and no anti-caking agents. Dig rocks, grind rocks, insert into package, ship. For anyone with concerns about iodine, Open Original Shared Link is a list of the trace minerals that Real Salt has. I eat it for two reasons, I love the taste! Which is honestly the primary reason... -
ARCHIVED Food Mix Up
Adalaide replied to bobbycuomo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
No, cheating isn't okay for us. Celiac can by itself by deadly and can lead to many other complicated, unpleasant and even deadly diseases. For a rather long debate that ends in no, check here. -
ARCHIVED Silly Folks On Psoriasis Forums
Adalaide replied to bartfull's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I just had a conversations with my mother in law that is pretty much the same thing. Her entire family is riddled with diseases linked to celiac and she herself has non-hodkins lymphoma which again, linked to celiac. She made a remark about my mango and I said it's one of the few fresh fruits I'm allowed to eat any more so that's why I eat so many of them... -
ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Adalaide replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I also prefer Rudi's to Udi's for that same reason. They're about the same price here, somewhere between $4.50 and $5.50 a loaf. The taste and texture is every so slightly better also imo. I'm feeling particularly lazy today. (I'm also still trying to climb out of this fog.) So I'm thinking that I'll probably just throw a burger on grill for the kiddo... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free On A Cruise Anyone?/
Adalaide replied to roxieb73's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The calling ahead is great advice, at least you'll know what to expect. How exciting to be planning such a wonderful trip! You can celebrate feeling well again. I'm not an experienced traveler or anything so I can't really offer advice. I just wanted to say congrats on feeling better enough to enjoy the upcoming trip and to try not to stress to much. It is... -
Not just Kix... when I was lamenting about putting up with my husband's whining about how there are no kid's cereals for him someone turned me onto Trix! For kids my butt... Trix are for celiacs.

I'm sure. While it has been a few months, it has always happened swiftly. I've gotten glutened at a pizza restaurant, from not reading ingredients appropriately and from CC in my kitchen. Every time I am in my bathroom in about half an hour or so. I am very aware of how fortunate I am to react so quickly so I can identify the offending item easily. Also,...

Thanks guys! That is a super adorable video Bartfull! I love music about as much as I love giraffes, which is really saying something.

I've been doing really well over the past few months. I've avoided any accidental glutenings and slowly but surely been feeling a little better. Over the weekend I wasn't feeling particularly great, some sort of bug or another. I was just generally nauseous so I stuck to mashed potatoes most of the weekend. Eventually I felt better enough to move on up to...

ARCHIVED Are These Celiac Symptoms?
Adalaide replied to djs895's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had blood tests and a biopsy on the same day. The blood tests came back negative but the biopsy was positive. Because I had not eaten for about 48 hours before the tests I asked to have the blood tests redone. They were negative again. After a few days I finally just accepted that the biopsy is what it is and went gluten free. So unless you are stubborn... -
I personally have never been there, and don't think I'll ever go. (After diagnosis) I looked at their "gluten free menu" as they call it. I don't expect everywhere to try hard, and these guys really live down to that with what they have to offer. I also have been unimpressed with the caliber of people working there before my diagnosis, I don't expect that...

ARCHIVED What Gluten Tastes Like After Three Years...
Adalaide replied to amberlink09's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
At first I dreamt of bread, but I don't any more. I was talking to a friend today who was diagnosed as a child, and she doesn't even think of bread as food. Honestly, although it's only been 7 months, neither do I. If I hadn't ready my biopsy report myself, I would probably hope that there was a mistake because while it gets easier, it is still hard. The... -
I've never really considered that any problems with my ankles were related to celiac. I don't to go to doctor every time I have an issue because frankly, if it isn't broken they're just going to tell my to put it up, put ice on it, baby it for a few days, then stop babying it. Same crap, every time. This has been happening since I was pretty little. I did...

ARCHIVED Day 3 Going gluten-free. Not Going So Well.

Not exactly chicken nuggets, but very very tasty. Maybe he'll go for it? Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Day 3 Going gluten-free. Not Going So Well.
Adalaide replied to Chrissy W.'s topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have to agree. Being told that your whole world of food is being turned upside down is hard. Honestly, compared to the gluteny foods we were used to those replacement foods taste like crap. There, I said it. Crap. And even the ones that don't just aren't the same, mostly the texture. I didn't want a pizza that tasted good for a gluten free pizza, I wanted... -
ARCHIVED Washing Dishes In The Dishwasher
Adalaide replied to gflooser's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I share a kitchen with my MIL. While still continuing to share dishes and the dishwasher I continued to be frequently sick. After beginning to use my own dishes, this stopped. This may have been due to a problem with the dishwasher itself, how it was used or loaded, the condition of the dishes when they were put in or none of the above. There is also a problem... -
ARCHIVED Prescriptions
Adalaide replied to Glutenfree4her's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I always ask for the name of the manufacturer so I can call myself. We need to be responsible for our own health. It sucks, but pharmacies seem to always be busy and we really just can't trust some harried person who doesn't even understand what gluten is to be responsible for knowing if something is gluten free. Usually when I ask for the number, they always... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Adalaide replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Pork chops, cauliflower with cheese sauce, maybe some taters. Not really sure but I feel like I need something else there. The hubs is having french fries but I don't really need to be stuffing my face with something deep fried. -
ARCHIVED Latex Allergy
Adalaide replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I began having issues with latex in the same way. I personally choose not to wear a bracelet because my allergy is not life threatening, at least so far. I've heard though that people formerly only mildly allergic can suddenly develop life threatening reactions so while it wouldn't kill me to wear a bracelet, it might kill me not to. Apparently my oh-so-fun... -
ARCHIVED Depo-Provera Injection
Adalaide replied to Vicky-1989's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was on the Depo-Provera injections for probably about 3 years. Honestly at the time I was young and didn't really take the time to understand the risk to my bone density or I wouldn't have used it. It was convenient and I didn't have to think about it. While the problematic side effects were apparently almost immediately, they weren't severe enough to make... -

ARCHIVED Wisk Laundry Detergent
Adalaide replied to 123glldd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't use Wisk brand, but to be honest I can't be sure why any laundry detergent would have gluten. (Then again I can't figure out why it's in tomato soup either so... it's all sorts of places it shouldn't be.) I wouldn't want it all up in my clothes and crap, that's for sure. I share a washer with my MIL, the only thing I won't do is wash my dish towels... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free And Fast Food?
Adalaide replied to hobbitqueen18's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Wendy's is great, they have a pretty good list online. I eat there pretty regularly and have never had a problem. Some dressings are okay, I keep a list of what is okay printed out in my car and just compare it to the online list regularly and update it as needed. Every Wendy's I have visited uses a dedicated fryer for their fries and the Frostys are gluten... -
ARCHIVED Cereal
Adalaide replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'll check our health food stores again, but last time I checked all the cereals are more than $5 a box. It's crazy. And it may be because we have two health food stores in the city but our grocery stores don't really have a selection of alternatives. Peanut buttery or frosted flakes is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for! Sometimes you just want...
