  1. If you're going to be concerned about your friend's couch, then you should be concerned about everything single thing you touch outside your house. Wash your hands often and always before putting them near your mouth. Don't put things in your mouth besides food.
  2. Gluten-free shared meals only, keep a totally gluten free square of counter, get all your own dishes. I'm not much help, my home is gluten free. But what captaincrab said definitely, get your kids tested. Total randomness gives them a min 1/10 chance of being a celiac. Got to be a higher chance if you include gluten intolerance. If they aren't celiacs...
  3. Things you are eating (or probably eating) that I would call processed: coffee, tortillas, yogurt, cheese, quinoa (well, I consider all grains as being processed, we don't eat them as they are in the field), oils/butter. Since you've substituted all your bread with cornbread, corn would be high on my list of things to stop. Bartfull says he reacts worse...
  4. If not eating it makes it go away and eating it causes it again, no matter what the symptom is, then that food is a problem for you. Also, I feel very badly for you, not that that helps anything! If you think it's the dairy, eliminate both the gluten and dairy and then add only 1 back, not both. It does require will power and will take time, but I think...
  5. Yeah I should prolly do that. They do keep the bins lined with plastic bags though, and all the gluten-free flours are next to each other so scoop mix up, for instance, shouldn't be an issue. But I have seen them clean off the lids and scoops on them with a vacuum brush that they then use to clean ALL the bin tops with. Thanks for all the advice/stories...
  6. Well the only products that I can say I've noticed having a problem with specifically are nuts from bulk barn and dairy. Highly like it was cc on the nuts, but before now, I didn't have a noticeable gluten reaction. Like when I ate gluten for my biopsy I didn't notice anything until at least a week in, and it's was all very vague. So I haven't been worried...
  7. Definitely should get the biopsy. Especially since you're pretty well symptomless. You might be doing as good a job as you thought. I'm 8 months in gluten-free and I have a biopsy next week. It's standard to get followed and get retested, not sure for how long you should be doing that, but at least until everything shows up as clean. I have no idea what...
  8. I'd bet that the quinoa won't cook right in orange juice. Too acidic. For whatever reason, things don't like to soften in acidity. I've made that mistake a few times adding canned tomatoes to curry before something in it cooked (potato, carrot, chickepeas, not sure what it was), and my mom told me why. I can see no reason why almond milk wouldn't work, although...
  9. I'm not 'normal' if I can't eat anything but food I prepare. I don't know what plane of existence all you other people are on. It is becoming my normal, but that's not exactly the same thing.
  10. "But, like last night for example, he came home with fast food and of course it left crumbs on the counter and then I worried about everything he touched afterward. I guess I just need to make him clean up a bit more...!" Awww, that really sucks. You have to nail it into him that this is your health you're talking about, that being lax about it isn...
  11. I have a patch of my finger that looks pretty much exactly like yours dani, except even smaller. It came acouple weeks ago, got super itchy, then went away and is coming back again. I am not diagnosed with dh, but I haven't had it checked out either. It's not bothering me much. My sister, whose bloodwork is negative for celiac disease, has had eczema as...
  12. Unless your probiotic advertises dairy free, it will likely have casein in it. Most probiotics are cultured on dairy. The only one I found locally is Natren, the one that says gluten and dairy free right on it. I could only find the acidophilus one. Vegetarian isn't enough to avoid casein. Vegan should be, but I would definitely look for one that says 'dairy...
  13. So because my neuropathy's been getting slowly worse again, I figure I have to try a more restricted diet. I've decided to go grain free for 2 reasons. Firstly, things like corn and quinoa apparently can cause an immune reaction in celiacs, and secondly, I'm just worried that I'm more sensitive that minimum quantities of gluten or not so small amounts of...
  14. Definitely. Seeing as how you're not even supposed to be eating anything that has a bread crumb or dusting of flour, I can't believe you're eating wheat starch, even if that's supposed to mean no protein (gluten) in what you're eating. That's just asking to not get better. You may or may not want to cut out dairy too. If you don't, keep it in mind for future...
  15. Too hard to tell. New dairy problem, glutening instead of the flu, the flu is worse, the milk carton had gluten on it, etc.
  16. Probably not helpful, but have him be gluten free too. At least in your shared home. Too hard otherwise. If you're super sensitive you have to make sure he cleans his mouth before kissing you, doesn't use gluteny products during intimate times if, um, well, I'm sure you get it (and that includes things like soap that can have gluten), and if he does choose...
  17. off topic, how did you get diagnosed if you had no symptoms? Why would anyone ever think to test you for celiac disease if you had no symptoms? Anyways, when your gut is damaged you're going to have absorption problems. That means not only do you not get things being absorbed, but stuff stays in your intestines that otherwise wouldn't be there. Not only...
  18. My casein symptoms involve a dry mouth and possibly a low grade fever, or maybe decrease in body temperature. I've only gained weight since being gluten and casein free, despite already being obese. I've never suffered from gluten withdrawal or dairy withdrawal that other people talk about. I have never heard of IgG tests for anything beyond gluten. Who...
  19. I'm dx celiac, going on 7 months, still not really better. Getting there though. Your naturopath and dietitian, while trying to make things easier for you, obviously aren't aware of how long it can take some people to feel better while being gluten free. Were you 100% gluten those 5 weeks? Didn't eay any traces of things, or used dishes that probably have...
  20. My eye exam a couple weeks ago, my eyes has actually gotten better for the first time since I was a kid. That's not floaters though. I've had floaters for as long as I can remember, same place, same shape.
  21. I've often wondered this. I wonder why we don't get dogs to diagnose all sorts of diseases for us, we trust them to find bombs and drugs. I personally haven't noticed a celiac odor, but have wondered a lot if it's contributed to my own pretty strong BO.
  22. Open Original Shared Link "This study confirms the extremely polymorphic nature of this condition that can affect several organs and apparatus without gastrointestinal symptoms" I can't seem to find anything about fainting and celiac disease though, not beyond mentions of case studies. Did find that low calcium can cause fainting.
  23. You could try raw fish, like sushi. It's just ocean fish that has been freezed to below a certain temperature for a certain period of time to kill any parasites or eggs that may be living in it. That said I don't think regular fridge freezers are cold enough...but you could go out and order sashimi once in awhile. Unfortunately I know of no nuts that are...

    ARCHIVED Second Day

I've been gluten free for 7 months and still suffer mental issues, albeit anxiety isn't really an issue for me, possibly because I avoid doing pretty much anything that gives me the slightest anxiety. You're taking magnesium supplements, right? For how long? Has it helped? Why do you suspect magnesium deficiency? Have you considered that you may be deficient...
  25. If you don't know, you can't eat it! Well, that's the approach I try to take.
