Stopping at Super walmarts is a great choice. There are lots of super Walmarts right off of major roads. Walmart has a labeling policy and some choice foods you can eat. Also, if there is a supermarket with a salad bar, you can make a salad with hard boiled eggs etc. We've traveled x-country no less than five times with three little kids. Have fun.

ARCHIVED Celiac, Brain Fog, And Alzheimer's
Jnkmnky replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know, but Thanks for validating the brain fog. During it, there's nothing you can do to get control of it. I think of my son who was in a peptide induced brain fog for the first three years of his life and I can't believe he's ok. Being held back one year in school seems like he got off pretty well considering how doped he was during those formative... -
Thank you all so much for sharing these experiences. I guess there is HOPE that if I stop eating an offending food, I can go off the meds? Is that what you think?

ARCHIVED Joint Pain
Jnkmnky replied to jaimi alderson's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just had a week of joint pain. I have so much fear tied up into joint pain. strange history with allergic reaction to benzodiazapines. Anyway, my dh was home for two weeks and we all went out to dinner a few times. I was hyper cautious with my celiac disease kid, but for myself, I ordered things like bbq ribs without checking the sauces. I ate seasoned... -
ARCHIVED How Strict Do We Need To Be?
Jnkmnky replied to radman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hello... new to topic. I am neg for sensitivity and celiac disease. HOWEVER, I was dx with endometriosis after a year and a bit of mind blowing pain. I went gluten-free and that next month was pain free! Some non-commited gluten-free eating left me sure that the only way to go was 100% gluten-free to be rid of that pain. Then there was the incident with... -
ARCHIVED I'm A Celiac For Attention
Jnkmnky replied to IntensePort's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
My husband's entire side of the family thinks... BELIEVES I made up the Celiac disease. My mil also claims I made up the fact that our first child had a stroke at birth... The fact that he was in the NICU for two weeks after birth, on Phenolbarbtal (sp?) for a year for seizures, and received speech, physical, and occupational therapy for three YEARS didn... -
ARCHIVED My 18month Old Daughter Is "pre-celiac"
Jnkmnky replied to crstnol's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
First of all ... ... Welcome to the world of the Celiac! Your dr and his/her best intentions cannot match the wisdom you will find here! I was doing this diet for my son for 4 years when I came to this site. Within a week, I learned more than I had in four years! If you child has "pre-celiac"... she will not be eating gluten ever again without... -

Those who say they would do the surgery, which one are you interested in? Fundoplication? If so, please, don't be shy... tell me every ounce of opinion, experience you have with it. I'm scared to do it, but will if I think it's the best. Right now, I'm leaning towards the Stretta procedure. Anyone have an opinion, experience with the Stretta? I think...

ARCHIVED Giving Up Celiac Diet
Jnkmnky replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't have a pos dx either, but just my experience is enough. My endo pain is gone completely and I had a few crumbs of gluten several weeks ago and endured joint pain for a week. NO thanks! -
I went off of coffee for a month, couldn't eat, lost 10 pounds in a week*kept it off, too!!* so there was a plus to all this horror. But I'm having a half a cup a day of coffee again. Tomorrow, I'll quit. I am not eating badly, just probably not great choices. I will go cold turkey again tomorrow, not take a prilosec and see how it goes. I can't believe...

I think I'm finally Going to the dr for my reflux on the 14th. I tried to not take my once daily prilosec yesterday and today... HAD to take it by 1pm this afternoon. I just couldn't take the gas pains. So, I want to pick the other refluxers brains for what I should get out of this appt being as it was such a screwed up and drawn out process just to get...

Also, get your calcium from a source other than dairy! Too much protien makes absorption of calcium impossible. We are dairy free and eat lg dark green salads made with spinach every night. You will absorb MORE calcium by going dairy free. -
ARCHIVED Airheads Candy....
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Looked on line, couldn't find an answer. Anyone know? -
I've been told the longer you're gluten-free, the higher the chance of actually having a bad reaction such as anaphalayxes shock. After years of being gluten-free, it's a good thing to carry an epi pen.

ARCHIVED Kinnikinnick Shipping Question
Jnkmnky replied to jaten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If I'm out, they leave it on the porch. It's fine when I get to it. It all does need to be frozen though. I will keep a pkg of whatever I'm using in the queue, like a pkg of chocolate chip muffins, a loaf of bread and a bag of bagels, in the fridge. That way, it's very easy to separate the bread, the muffins only need to be heated in the microwave for... -
ARCHIVED A Great Way To Cope With celiac disease..
Jnkmnky posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My first gluten free exp. at P.F.Chang's went so well that I wanted to let others who may not know yet that it's a great restaurant. LOVED the gluten free menu. Full of real meals! We took so much home because we were too full to finish. The lettuce wrap chicken is NOT a dietetic dish. Huge portions, great flavor and really nice environment. Happy eating... -

ARCHIVED Problems W/friends And Family
Jnkmnky replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My mother in law accused me of making it up for attention. She also accused me of making up the STROKE my first born suffered during delivery. I know my medical plan with the military is good and all, but even they won't keep a newborn in a NICU for two weeks without good reason. She's a &^%&^$%*&^*(^& and I really, really, super really... -
In no particular order.... "Children don't get Celiac Disease." "Gluten enteropathy is rare." "He has Cystic Fibrosis." "Oats are safe." "Sprouted wheat is safe." "Is that when you can't eat bread?" "Don't put your family on the gluten-free diet, it's too restrictive. What will you do for birthday parties when they have pizza and cake...

I started a thread.... Love and respect for all. WE CAN DO IT!!! Open Original Shared Link GO Here^^^^^^^^^^^^ Disagreement doesn't equal disrespect.

I would love to discuss it with you. I think the Anything but Celiac thread wouldn't be appropriate because the subject really is all about Celiac disease and the people with it.... I'll look around....

The Catholic Church is hung up on "tradition" in place of common sense and compassion. (Hello! I'm Catholic.) There is a traditional recipe for the host which as of today, is more important to the leadership of the Catholic Church than the actual Commandment to "do this in memory of me." My stance on this is simply that Jesus wasn't hovering over a bowl...

ARCHIVED Dairy Free And gluten-free Butter?
Jnkmnky replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So far, I've gotten away with olive oil. I even use it in mashed potatoes.... If you go to a store like WholeFoods, there are tons of flavored oils. We like the flavored Avocado oils. I also have walnut oil, grapeseed oil, but there are lots and lots to choose from. Maybe you couldn't get away with using oil in this recipe, but it may work for you in...
