ARCHIVED How Did You Feel After You Switched To Gluten Free Diet?
loraleena replied to mainesgem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was nauseous for a month after starting diet. Your body is detoxing and you may be having withdrawal. Gas-x has gluten. Try some gluten free digestive enzymes before your meal. I also found that deglycerized licorice tablets helped with the nausea. Make sure it is deglycerized or you could get high Blood pressure. I used enzymatic therapies brand. -

Lyme is not rare. It can go undetected for years. Read some of Rachel's posts. I too am going to go through the testing she suggested. I too am better, but not normal. -
ARCHIVED Does Your Gi System Approve Of Alcohol?
loraleena replied to luvs2eat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have found that my tolerance for alcohol since going gluten free is much lower. I often get overheated and get heart palpatations and don't feel well. It seems to depend on the kind of wine I drink. Be careful of vodka, because there are a few that have gluten. I just heard one advertised on the radio and it said it was made with whole wheat! I know... -

I used to get fevers as my only symptom with UTIs. No other symptoms at all. Take lots of zinc lozenges. -
ARCHIVED Need Help With This Please...
loraleena replied to TiffTiff's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My concern is that you said you are anorexic. You are already extremely restricted due to being a vegan and now no gluten. You have to stop the gluten or you will only get sicker. It seems you are consuming lots of grains especially if you are vegan. Why are you vegan? Is it for weight control? I am just asking since I originally became vegetarian for... -
ARCHIVED Against The Grain Gourmet
loraleena replied to floridanative's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They are based in Brattleboro Vt. I have not tried them yet, but a friend has. She said they were amazing, especially the baguettes. They are made with tapioca flour, eggs, mozzerella and a couple other things. Not good if you are dairy free. -
Does anyone have recipes for cooking with coconut flour. I heard it is really good for you - non grain, high protien and low carb.

I thought xanthan gum came from corn? -
Since someone explained the toxic better than me I'll leave it at that. Also all oils become rancid very quickly except coconut oil . It can remain unrefridgerated for over a year. Get on line and read about oils especially coconut. I have only been hearing bad things about canola lately.

ARCHIVED Novacaine?
loraleena replied to loraleena's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Crap, I found out the novocaine was ok, but did not realize that the numbing agent would be used until too late. Well it has been an hour and so far so good. I typically react within 10 minutes. -
I am getting a tooth pulled today. Is novacaine gluten free? I need my answer by 1:30 eastern time. Thanks.

ARCHIVED Urinary Tract Infection
loraleena replied to Terrilyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
are you actually testing positive for bacteria every time? If not you could have Intersticial cystitis. It feels like and infection, but is actually chronic inflamation in your bladder. I had it bad, till I cut out all citrus. Cranberry juice would make this condition worse as well. It is autoimmune, and others with celiac on this site have it as well... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Since May, Chronic Fatigue Better, Now Fibromyalgia
loraleena replied to Mia H's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Try sweet potatoes. I slice them, coat them in olive oil, and bake. Yum. Pregnancy can bring on fibro flare or make it better. -
I did this diet for several months. I wasted away, stopped getting my period, and was depressed. Then I found out about gluten. I gained back the weight, started to improve, and was less depressed. I am good about avoiding sugar, and too much fruit. I know that if I indulge I pay. I also eat lots of veggies and protien, and raw cheeses. It was too extreme...

canola oil and other oils become toxic when heated. Olive oil is good in dressings, but only coconut oil is good for cooking. You can get organic virgin coconut oil at natural food stores. It is also a powerful antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal.

Annies makes a boxed gluten free kind that is pretty good. Does anyone have a good recipe for real mac and cheese using cheddar? -
Anything chemical with and obvious odor. (perfumes, exhaust ,paint, carpet, upholstery). Can never buy a new car again! I recently realized that I am having a reaction to avacodo. Too much corn bothers me as well as too much rice. In moderation is ok. Pasterized dairy. I can eat raw dairy. The smell thing is my biggest problem. It can turn a feel good...

Cut out nightshades - tomato, potatoe, eggplant, peppers. Also get your thyoid checked for hyothyroidism and get your adrenal levels checked. Make sure they check your thyroid peroxidase antibodies. Levels should be under 20. If not this indicateds hashimotos hypo which is common in us celiacs. -
ARCHIVED Bloated Abdomen?
loraleena replied to sonja69's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This has been happening to me since going gluten free. I have a nice tummy when I wake up, but as soon as any morsel of food passed my lips I bloat up to about 5 months pregnant. Digestive enzymes were helping, but seem to not help anymore. I too have no pain, and not much gas passing either. My clothers are tight and I can't where my fitted tops anymore... -
ARCHIVED Platelets
loraleena replied to loraleena's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi I am the one who originally started this post back in April. Yes, platelets can go up and down. A month after my platelets dropped to 84, 000, but 2 wks later they were back up to 134,000. The last number has been my normal for years. I do bruise easy, but that is it. Apparently any infection and several types of meds can cause this. The doc does think...
