Try 1-3 mg of melatonin. I take this 30 min. before bed and it knocks me out. Try and stay away from those prescription meds - lots of bad side effects. You can also take Valarien with the melatonin. I found the Natrol brand of melatonin works great!! Melatonin is a natural hormone our bodies produce for sleep and some of us are lacking in it!

ARCHIVED Frozen Chicken Breast
loraleena replied to moe-87's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could be contaminated if the breasts were cooked in a pan that has cooked gluten previously. Make sure you get new pots and pans and utensils. -
ARCHIVED What Should I Ask For At Whole Foods?
loraleena replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Lara bars are a great snack. Just raw nuts and dates. How about organic eggs. Even though I hate to microwave my food, in a pinch at a hotel I will micro a couple eggs (scrambled) and put them in a warmed Food For Life brown rice toritilla (at Whole Foods). -
ARCHIVED Nutty Flax Cereal
loraleena replied to hathor's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Nutty Flax really bothered me. I think I can't tolerate the sorghum. -
Oh my god what kind of quack is you doctor!!! You have to go on meds for life if you are hypo. You need a doc who will not just look at tests but also at how you feel. Please post your results so I can see them or pm me. A lot of docs are using outdated reference ranges as well. If you can't find a doc with brains you can use Dr. Lowe or Dr. Gina Honeyman...

ARCHIVED Need Help Figuring Out Thyroid Results
loraleena replied to writerspice's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It is sounds like Hashimotos hypothyroidism. Your antibodies are high and should be below 20 not 60. Also the TSH range your doc is using is several years outdated. The range should be between .3-3. Over 2 can cause hypo problems. You are def. hypo. I urge you to go to Dr.Lowe.com and Stopthethyroidmadness to read more and get on a more helpful med... -
ARCHIVED My Son Has Celiac
loraleena replied to mixxy231's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The negative blood work is not always accurate. Given you and your son's diagnosis and the fact that she is having symptoms I would at least have her try a gluten free diet. You could have her checked for gluten intolerance by Entero labs. It is a stool test. -
I would seriously look into candida overgrowth. Try taking probiotics. Find a good digestive enzyme to take before meals. Maybe get checked for small bowel bacteria as well. And ditto the above suggestions about other intolerances. Xanax and pepto will only worsen your condition in the long run. They are bandaids. Pepto also constipates you as well...

I have IC. I get bloated daily, but when my bladder is flaring it looks like I am 5 months pregnant. I get pulling pain to. I read something about fluids building up in the area due to the flare. I can't remember exactly. Type in distended abdomen with IC and you should get some info.

ARCHIVED Doctor Appointment Shocker
loraleena replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gluten intolerance can cause depression, bipolar, anxiety and schizophrenia. I would not consider meds until you try the gluten free diet first -
ARCHIVED Need Help Please Read!
loraleena replied to skikat's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It is my understanding that before age 2 the celiac test is not very accurate. In my opinion an elimination such as what you did is all the proof you need to at least show gluten intolerance. -

It is near my mom's house. I will call her and get the info. -
There are two products that I have heard good things about on here and many other places. Theralac and Threelac. I tried Threelac and it seemed to be helping, but it cause my intersticial cystitis(a bladder condition) to flare. It was the lemon juice in it. You need to starve the yeast and introduce healthy bacteria in the form of probiotics. It is not...

Could you please tell me what the three tests are? My iron level is normal, but the doc only does the typical test. This is very interesting. Thanks in advance!

loraleena replied to amybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There is also Manny's in Easton. They also have gluten free pastas, zitis and manicottis. Their pizza is yummier(in my humble opinion than Jules). -
Find a PF Changs. They have a gluten free menu and in Boston they have a dedicated gluten free section in the kitchen.

Get your thyroid checked. The TSh test is very inacurate and misses many people with hypothyroid. Make your you get a complete thyroid panel especially the thyroid peroxidase antibody test. This should be under 20. Mine was 799 even though my TSh was normal. Elivated levels show the autoimmune form of the disease known as Hashimotos Hypothyroidism. Weight...

ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Successes
loraleena replied to mftnchn's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We had a completely fabulous gluten free dinner (except the gravy) at my mom's house. She cooked the turkey without stuffing. I made gluten free cornbread (Whole Foods 365 brand), spaghetti squash, sweet potato fries, asparagus, mashed potatoes and a wonderful gluten free pumpkin maple cheesecake! Everyone loved the dinner. No one could believe that the... -
