  1. Carla---I'm assuming Omnicef is gluten free, since you are taking it? L
  2. I had positive bloodwork, but a normal biopsy (biopsy was taken shortly into the gluten-free diet). A biopsy can rule IN Celiac, but it cannot rule it OUT. I think that trying the gluten free diet will be a strong dietary indicator. If he responds positively, the positive blood test, the diet change, and the inconclusive biopsy will still point...
  3. nightshades are a family of foods that include potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, and a couple other things...some people have reactions to them as a group (i.e., if you have probs with one, you might have probs with all). On the MC board that I mentioned, many of them don't have Celiac, but gluten is one of their offending foods. Many of them are not on meds...
  4. rez, I thought your post was wonderful---thank you for sharing! Its important to note that neither the EMA alone or the tTG alone is 100%. Dr. Green even talks about how if only one is used, people with Celiac can be missed. Thats why its so important to have the whole panel done.
  5. Thanks for letting us know!
  6. The correct way to deal with a situation like this is to hit the "report this post to a moderator" button and write your comments. They will be sent to the moderators and Scott, who is the board admin. He makes the final decisions. This issue has been dealt with, thanks to members like you alerting us to these issues.
  7. Get a hard copy (don't have them read them over the phone, they are infamous for misreading), get the results, post the tests, the results, and the reference ranges, and we'll have a go at it! Laura
  8. Although lists are great, it is important to note that the only way to know if something is gluten free is to read the label. Learning to read a label is the most important tool that a Celiac can have. Ingredients can change at any time, and make lists outdated very fast. Many companies do not put out lists for this reason, but instead issue a statement...
  9. Smeech, Reactions can vary from person to person, and even in one person (sometimes they react, other times they don't). Celiac is referred to as a "medical chameleon" because of its different presentations. Some people are debilitated by their symptoms, others have absolutely no symptoms (they are referred to as "silent Celiac" or asymptomatic Celiac...
  10. One of the TOP (and I mean top!) Celiac doctors is Dr. Peter Green at Columbia University's Celiac Center. Here is their website---it is a wonderful educational source. Open Original Shared Link This might help answer some of your questions. From what Celiac docs know, Celiac will cause blunted villi. But gluten intolerance will not.
  11. Stephanie, I just wanted to add my support to you right now. It is hard when something that is part of your life is "attacked" per se, by your family. Its hard to accept that people that we are related to can be like this. Laura
  12. Yes, I remember you! Congratulations! That is definitely a keeper....a man who loves your food. I wish you much gluten free happiness Stick around...hope to see around more often. Laura
  13. Sandy and Andrea, Welcome to the board!!!! Celiac and Microscopic Colitis (which covers LC) or gluten and MC often go hand in hand. I was tested for this last year, and there is a wonderful resource at Open Original Shared Link about microscopic colitis. They are also pretty informed about gluten. They should hopefully be able to help you in terms...
  14. Its not corn wine. All wines are made from grapes, yes, but they are clarified and processed with other things. Wine is not 100% grapes, in the sense that other products are used to finalize it. There are even vegan wines, that aren't made with any animal products (eggs, dairy, etc). ---- I only know this because I was reacting to everything under the...
  15. I have had three , and it really isn't that bad at all. The prep is annoying though. I was out (sedation) for all three procedures...in one, I wasn't out quite enough ... I guess I kind of talked and they bumped up the sedation and I didn't remember anything else. So even if they don't give you enough, if they know that you are uncomfortable, they will...
  16. If the doctor said that your son had villous blunting, that is a clear marker (that is what Celiac "IS" by definition---blunted/villous atrophy) of Celiac. If you do not feel comfortable in this doctor's knowledge of Celiac, post on this board asking for a knowledgable doctor in your area. Its not worth the incorrect information, time, and effort to deal...
  17. I think it varies based on the person...some Celiacs have no other food issues, some have concurent and long term allergies/intolerances, and some develop them and they stay/others have them and they leave. At one point I was intolerant to just about everything, including corn. If you are truly having trouble with any corn, be aware the corn can be cross...
  18. No need to repost (duplicates are marked for deletion by moderators). What is your question exactly? I was a bit confused--- Are you looking for a doctor in your area? Are you looking for advice on how to broach this with him or the doctors? If you need advice on if the IV food is gluten free/casein free, this is something that should be pretty easily...
  19. White vinegar is generally corn-based, so if you have a problem with corn, you should not be eating it. That would be why you are feeling sick after eating it!
  20. I believe that it is 100% that it can't be passed through s.
  21. Nope, not being paranoid. Tell them to think of gluten like rat poison. Would they want to kiss you if you had just eaten a ton of rat poison? Would they be certain that no little bit could get on them?
  22. Hey Lauren It worked! Thanks for posting it for me. I plan on "walking" --- not so much running . I have other health issues but am hoping to be able to participate. I'll be in touch!
  23. Nope, it didn't work :(. I love the name!!!!!!!!!
  24. Since I was dx'ed in 2004, I have wanted to do a Celiac Walk/Run. If I am able to health wise, I am interested in doing the Celiac Walk in Baltimore, MD, on May 6. I was wondering if anyone else is participating or thinking about doing it? Has anyone done it before? www.celiaccenter.org .... click on walk/run and baltimore. Thanks, Laura
