  3. Hi Lindsay Welcome to the board!!! We have lots of people on board...some are Celiacs, some are gluten intolerant, some are family members, and some are just here looking, reading, learning, etc. Hope that you make yourself at home and learn about gluten. Have you had the blood testing done for Celiac? Feel free to ask any questions. ...
  4. I'd eat it. Wheat is required by law to be listed. Only leaves rye, barley, malt, oats....doesn't sound too likely in syrup.
  5. A good site to check out is www.apfed.org. It is the premier foundation that provides educational materials, etc. on eosinophillic disorders.

    ARCHIVED Can Anyone Help!?

Looks like your test results are negative. The doctor also failed to run two very important parts of the test, the total IgA and the tTG. Do you have symptoms? What brought you to be tested for Celiac? You can still have a problem with gluten that isn't Celiac. Or, you could have a non-gluten related problem. Or both.
  7. Celiac Disease can be a "patchy" disease...i.e., the damage isn't necessarily uniform. So a biopsy might have been taken from a "normal" section.
  8. Check out the book listed in my signature----that will make a world of difference for you!
  9. Now you do know what the full panel consists of! And make sure you do talk with him to make sure that ALL the tests are run. Taken from www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA Total IgA level.
  10. The basic panel includes: Therefore, in the United States, screening in patients with possible celiac disease should consist of a panel of the following serologic tests: Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA Total IgA level. You can give...
  11. I received this from Hidden Valley Oct 2007: Thank you for contacting us about HV Full Cal Bottled Salad Dressing - Original Ranch. We always appreciate hearing from our consumers. The FDA requires that we list the following allergens on our ingredient labels: 1. Egg 2. Soybean (excluding high refined oil) 3. Dairy 4. Peanut 5. Wheat...
  12. See this site for some great info: Open Original Shared Link www.celiacdiseasecenter.columbia.edu www.celiaccenter.org Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link and of course, the wonderful parent site to this forum, www.celiac.com
  13. Before the procedure, talk to the doctor tell him you want "multiple biopsies in multiple locations"---too many doctors only take one biopsy. Celiac can be a patchy disease (damage-wise). And in terms of food: Tinkyada (rice based) pasta is the best one out there!!!
  14. The vast majority of problems associated with fertility are among women who are undiagnosed and/or don't follow the diet. When you are dx'ed and start/maintain the diet, your risks drop dramatically----not only for fertility, but for *most* other potential complications. So stick to the diet, and your risks shouldn't be much more elevated than any...
  15. If its only been two weeks on the diet, I wouldn't be too worried. It generally takes longer than 2 weeks for the body to heal and stop attacking itself, and then bring itself back up (i.e., start absorbing nutrients, etc.) Point is: you may have him completely gluten free, but his body is taking a little while to catch up----completely normal.
  16. This is their response on their webpage: Open Original Shared Link Gluten-Free Information You have searched for information about gluten or gluten-free items. Due to ingredient changes that may occur as we constantly improve our products, we are not able to offer a list of gluten-free McCormick products. We encourage you to always read the ingredient...
  17. McCormick is a company that will clearly list all gluten ingredients, and won't hide them. For all their products, if you don't see wheat, barley, malt, rye, or oats listed, then it is safe. They are a great company for Celiacs! Their website says: When a product that contains gluten is formulated, we take precautions to ensure the source of gluten...
  18. Particularly interesting Am J Clin Pathol. 2003 Oct;120(4):554-9 Babesiosis. Two atypical cases from Minnesota and a review. Setty S, Khalil Z, Schori P, Azar M, Ferrieri P. 19. Which test was positive? There are a few issues with dev. delayed children and gluten. Some might be true Celiacs. Some test negative for Celiac and DON'T have Celiac----but for some reason, gluten causes problems/symptoms. So you child could be negative and still adversely affected by gluten.
  20. Technically yes they can, but it is very, very rare. Other foods can certainly cause symptoms, but very very few, and in very few individuals, do the foods actually cause villi blunting. From a leading Celiac expert at Columbia University Causes of villous atrophy apart from celiac disease In children less than two years old, there are several...
  21. Just throwing this out there: Your doc didn't run the full Celiac panel, which consists of five tests. They are recommended to be run together. It looks like you had the total IgA and the tTG. (from columbia university) Of the commercially available serologic tests that aid in the diagnosis of celiac disease, no one test is ideal. Using multiple...
  22. What bloodwork did you have done that was positive? A Celiac can range from 100% asymptomatic (silent Celiac) to pretty darn debilitated. Everyone else falls somewhere in the middle...with various (and often contradictory) symptoms. Presence or lack of a symptom doesn't mean you do/don't have it. "It is not necessarily a diarrheal illness, but a multisystem...
  23. The best advice I can give to someone who is trying to stay gluten free is: Do not eat anything unless you know: 1. What the ingredients are in everything you eat 2. Know how the food was prepared
  24. I adapt the recipe from the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook and its always delicious. Ingredients 8 ounces dried elbow macaroni (2 cups) ---- we use Tinkyada 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium) 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour -----we use Bob's Red Mill All Purpose Flour 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 2-1/2 cups...
  25. Agree with the other two posters. I became more sensitive the longer I was gluten free. Picking off croutons off a salad is not a good idea if you are planning on being truly gluten free. Did you check the ingredients of the dressing?
