  1. If it has wheat in it, then wheat is required to be listed (just to keep in mind).
  2. duodenum is the first part of the small intestine, and what they routinely biopsy.
  3. So happy to read your good news, Lynne!!!!!! Thanks for sharing...you know we worry!
  4. Open Original Shared Link Same principle as the previous topic. If the caramel coloring (or flavorings, or ANYTHING) has wheat in it, it is required to be declared. If it is made by one of the safe companies, then unless it declares wheat/rye/barley/malt/oats, it is SAFE. If you are reacting to caramel color in a safe company, then it is not a gluten...
  5. This is from the LDA's ABCs of Lyme brochure. "Gastrointestinal Lyme Martin D. Fried, MD Director, Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Assistant Program Director, Department of Pediatrics Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, NJ Lyme disease has been reported in the gastrointestinal tract of children and adolescents. Pediatric gastrointestinal...
  6. Ok, there are so many important things to comment on, and I am bound to forget something, but here goes: Sweet M: I am so sorry that you are having a rought spot. Its sometimes even more frustrating that you can pinpoint it (the rice cakes). In general, how have you been feeling? Do you think you are improving? I think about you all the time as we...
  7. It can, but not on any of the above companies. yay for good companies!
  8. The food allergen labeling law officially only covers wheat. However, there is a HUGE list of companies that state that they WON'T hide gluten. If you are using these products (always turn the package over to see who processes it...you will find that many, many companies are on this list that you may not realize)....then you can feel safe about it. Very...
  9. How exciting!!!!! Yes....do tell on the names!
  10. Applebee's is not a good option for Celiacs. Most of their food has gluten in it (even their marinated chicken that goes on a salad). Their salad bar in the kitchen is full of cross contamination. I used to work there and I won't eat from there.
  11. 1. Determine what company produces the food. Refer to list of companies that will clearly disclose gluten. Then, when I read the label, I know if it is safe or not, and don't have to worry about "natural flavorings" and the like. 2. If its not a company that is on this list, then I contact them. But, luckily, that is rare! And I agree---I don't trust...
  12. I would like to add that we have some very invaluable men that are members of our community....although they are fewer than the women, they are just as important
  13. You need a new doctor, and they need to run another Celiac panel, (the full panel) to see if her problems are still gluten related.
  14. Tori's Dad: What a wonderful post....just what we need around here! It is so great to hear that your family is doing so much better. Congratulations!!!!!!!! It is a lot of hard work, but as you are proof---it is so worth it. Laura
  15. Thanks, Lisa!!! lol...the funny thing is that we have looked for a different wedding band for me. However, a very nice 2007 Toyota Camry is looking to be parked in my driveway, sometime between now and mid July....so I'm going to count that as my gift . 3 years....hard to believe. I was sick at my wedding with undx'ed Celiac....dx'ed 3...
  16. Or hit the F5 button.
  17. Thanks for the laugh, Lisa :) So our anniversary is may 30...right before the full moon
  18. Courtney: Here is my logic: Progresso is a Betty Crocker company. They are a company that will clearly list any gluten containing ingredients, and will not hide them in flavors, starch, etc. Coupled with the food labeling law with requires ALL companies to list wheat (either in the ingredients and/or in the "list" at the end), I would feel comfortable...
  19. nope.. gluconate does not mean gluten, and maltodextrin does not mean malt.
  20. I use their mixes and the only piece of advice that I have is that once it isn't fresh, that it does better either heated up, or used for grilled cheese, or toasted, etc. It seems to help, for whatever reason.
  21. Happy Mothers Day to all the deserving Moms on our board! I give the moms of Celiac kids a TON of credit...not that it isn't tough for us Celiacs, but the moms who aren't Celiacs, and have sought out a diagnosis and worked hard to keep their kids on a gluten free diet: my hats are off to you!!!! And to all the Moms on this board who have so graciously...
  22. Yes, I have two sweet kitties....Toby (my baby) and Sully (who is Patti's cat's twin). Toby is on my lap as we speak.
  23. guaranteeing gluten free and, in reality, being gluten free, are two different things. Can even gluten free food makers guarantee that their products are 10000000000% gluten free: NO. Do we still eat them, after reading their ingredients and making an educated decision? Yes. If the ingredients are safe and you talk to them, and their products aren't...
  24. Happy Mother's Day to all you ladies with kids, grandkids, pets..... I know I am eternally grateful to my wonderful mother for all that she has done for me. Sniffle! Happy Mother's Day to my cyber mom, Patti. xoxo
