  1. I've been offered a pretty amazing job in Manhattan. I know what rent prices are like out there, and even though the compensation is rather good, I don't want to go broke paying rent. I don't want to live with anyone who isn't gluten-free, for obvious reasons, and I know there are alot of New Yorkers on here, so I thought I'd put out feelers. I do have...
  2. I think most of them are, I too have a cat that only really likes dry food, but I have to give them meds and need wet food for that. I read the label every time I get thier food. From all I could tell, it seemed to be gluten free, and it hasn't made me sick, wheras a bag of friskies poofed cat food dust in my face when I was first gluten-free and made me...
  3. What I have found is that you have to go to a pet store to find gluten-free cat food. There is one Purina dry cat food ( I believe it's indoor formula) that doesn't have gluten, and thats it for brands found in regular grocery stores. I feed my kittys Eukanuba for dry food and Nature's somthingorother for wet food. Elonwy
  4. Whole Foods does carry Kinnikinnick, it just depends on where you are and who the manager of your particular store is. I know they carry less than they used to because of the whole foods bakery line. TJ's does not carry kinnikinnick products. Some Wild Oats do. I like the Kinnikinnick bagels. When toasted, they are crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the...
  5. I wanted to clarify my cheating urges. I've been reading along, and want to be sure that what I was trying to say about why I wanted to cheat came across. I didn't want to cheat because I really wanted the food, I wanted to cheat because I've been almost numb with rage and grief, and wanted to do something stupid and self-destructive to lash out, because...
  6. I've got some in my fridge. Sofar so good. Elonwy
  7. Keep in mind that I'm a horrendously picky eater. I grew up in Hawai'i and have eaten Taro in a multitude of forms. It has a very distinct, strong flavor. I personally don't like it. The Taro chips though, are not that bad. If you do like it though you also may want to check out: Open Original Shared Link Its much more potato-like. I personally don...
  8. So I was completely wrong: Artificial flavors may contain gluten. Awesome. From Scientific American: What is the difference between artificial and natural flavors? J. Yerger State College, Pa. Gary Reineccius, a professor in the department of food science and nutrition at the University of Minnesota, explains. Natural and artificial flavors are...
  9. I have yet to find an artificial additive with gluten. The mere definition of it makes it very unlikely. Gluten is natural, as it comes from Wheat rye and barley. So natural flavors are suspect, but artificial ones should not be. I don't check artificial ingredients. Its kind of cool that he's being very strict about it, it could well be the other way...
  10. All the Lundberg stuff that's gluten-free says so right on the box. The creamy parmesan is just fine. I eat thier boxes rices all the time. It has replaced Rice-A Roni in my life. Yum. Elonwy
  11. Nope, I'm sticking to gluten free goodies and bags and bags of cheetos. I've been able to contain most of the self-destructive urges, though I've been drinking a bit more this week. He had a great many friends, and we're all taking turns checking on eachother and getting hammered with eachother. I'm mostly staying home, where there is zero temptation of gluten...
  12. I was sitting talking with a friend yesterday, who I don't see that often, I've seen him twice since going gluten-free. He looked at me, and said "This is the first time I've ever been able to have a conversation with you where you were able to stay on the same topic for the length of the conversation" I realized that I am not the spazz I used to be. I've...
  13. I don't cheat with accidental glutenings, cause I've found there is definitly a correlation between how much I ingest and how sick I get, and for how long. One little taste of something with soy sauce, I'm sick for a day , tops three. Accidently eating something with flour in it, I'm out for a week. I haven't taken it to the "oh well screw it I'll eat this...
  14. I take one-a-day womens, which had most of the B vitamins in it. I used to take additional B3 (niacin) to help my brain, but now I only take extra niacin in the form of a niacin tablet or in the NADH form Enadalert when I actually need it, cause too much niacin can be bad for you. I find that the multi's make my head clearer on a regular basis and the extra...
  15. Girls, be careful with Ginkgo, St John's Wort and Echinacea if you're on birth control. St John's Wort is proven to lessen the effects of birth control, and Ginkgo and Echinacea are suspected of it and being studied. Also don't take Ginkgo is you're on a blood thinner or don't clot well. I use B vitamins to get my brain uncloudy. There is a great gluten...
  16. Yeah eggs mess me up something fierce too. I can handle things with eggs in them, like bread, but just eating an eggs or something that is mainly egg takes me out for about a day. Feirce stomach cramping/nausea pain without the ability to pass anything. UGh. Elonwy
  17. Autoimmunity just means your immune system is confused, and can't discern between bad things, like viruses, and your own body. Usually people with auto-immune disorders have a hyperactive immune system. While the body is busy dealing with its reaction to gluten, it can be easier to get sick, since you're not absorbing important nutrients and your immune...
  18. There is a tuna that clearly lists wheat on the label. I know Starkist is safe, I use thiers, it may have been Chicken of the Sea. If you go to thier web site it will state which products are gluten free, but there is definitly canned tuna out there with wheat on the label. Elonwy
  19. I got a bone scan done. I'm only 28 and have no recognizable symptoms, but my mom developed osteoperosis at a very early age, and considering all that, I got it done just to be sure. It doesn't hurt and its unobstrusive, probably the easiest test of all this junk. If your ins. covers it, I say go for it. Elonwy
  20. Technically there is a point at which the protien is not fully developed. How you could specifically figure that out without testing each batch, not too sure, so you're pretty much guessing. Not really worth the risk. Have some seaweed. Yum. Elonwy
  21. They are only just now going into Human trials for Enzymes to help Celiacs. Read from the bottom of the Glutenease statement: "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease." This is not a drug, this falls under "herbal supplement" so therefore is...
  22. To me there is a difference in the following statements: Prepared on shared lines: NOT okay May contain traces: NOT okay In the same facility: Maybe, I'll try it if its a trusted company. If it was my kind though, and not me, I'd probably be much mroe protective than I am of myself. That's just speculative, since I don't have any yet. Elonwy
  23. I wanted to. This is thier label: Gluten Free (By definition this means less than 10 ppm gluten. The wheat fiber ingredient has no protein and is supplier verified.) Ingredients Filtered water, rice flour, wheat fiber, natural stabilizer blend (cellulose gel and alginate), canola oil, autolyzed yeast extract, natural mushroom flavor, sea salt,...
  24. I was down at the commons area at school today, where they usually have Amy's frozen meals in the freezer. I always like to check, just to see that they are still keeping with the gluten free frozen meals. There were some old boxes with the "gluten free". There were also some new enchilada boxes. Front of the box now says, in much bigger letters "Made without...
  25. Going Gluten free got rid of my Gerd, and my hiccups. I used to hiccup constantly, which is cute when you're a kid, but not great when you're in a meeting at work and trying to be professional. Don't miss that at all. Elonwy
