  1. The reason you could not see the post in the "Coping With" forum was probably because it hadn't been pinned yet. A moderator has to pin the topic first and then it will show up in the forum. Its not always pinned immediately after you post it. You can always view the topics in "Todays active topics". Its a link toward the bottom of the main page.
  2. White Wave Silk Nog is egg/gluten free...its from Soy.
  3. If you had a positive biopsy and positive bloodwork...there is no mistake about it...you have Celiac. Just because you arent experiencing symptoms doesnt mean the damage isnt occurring. You will still be causing damage everytime you eat gluten regardless of symptoms...or lack of.
  4. If you can have soy there is a Silk brand eggnog...its free of Gluten, Casein, lactose and a bunch of other stuff....but it does have soy. I drank it and it was yummy.
  5. I was feeling pretty sad earlier today. I guess working in a grocery store the day before Thanksgiving kind of brought me down. When I left work I realized I would be sitting there watching everyone eat tomorrow with no food of my own. I didnt prepare and didnt know what I should get. I started thinking maybe the Whole Foods gluten-free bakehouse might have...
  6. I was very healthy all my life. During a stressful time is when my symptoms came on and for 3 years I suffered. I went from completely healthy (I think I thought I was invinceable ) to thinking for sure I would die.
  7. The reactions really don't tell anything (except that you've been glutened). There are people with total destruction of their villi (seen in biopsy) and they have no symptoms whatsoever. There are others who have severe reactions and no damage seen in biopsy.
  8. This is exactly how it was for me. Eventually there were no more "healthy" days though. Now the slightest contamination and I pay for it for 2 weeks.
  9. Gluten-free just basically means there is no gluten *in* the product...they don't *put* it there but there can always be contamination. (unless its processed in a gluten-free facility). I react to almost everything that is not from a dedicated facility.
  10. I had numbness/tingling daily pre-gluten-free. Now it hardly ever happens..unless I gluten myself pretty good. It used to wake me up at night and like nettiebead said my feet were like stumps. My hands were bad too...I couldnt make a fist with them. All better now.
  11. I can understand how you feel given the lack of support from your family/freinds. However I think your #1 priority should be YOU. Do the tests for yourself...so that you can learn about your health and start the road to recovery. They may *still* not believe you even if any of your tests are positive. The important thing is not what they think but how YOU...
  12. Yes, unfortunately I am very familiar with Kaiser here in the Bay Area. Apparantly I've had the opposite experience as you though. Pretty much EVERY doctor I saw was about as knowledgeable as this woman you saw. I suffered for 3 years and my doctors were clueless. The specialists on the other hand are pretty decent. The first GI I saw wasn't that good...he...
  13. That is definately one of the worst things I've seen from a doctor on this forum. Well I've read alot of bad advice from doctors but that is just *wrong*! First of all, thats like saying "well....you have Celiac Disease but just go ahead and ignore that fact and take these pills to mask the symptoms when you get them. Just nevermind about the fact that...
  14. He-He I guess I was feeling a little naughty last night...don't know what came over me. Now I'm having flashbacks of my detention days....boy was that fun!
  15. Ummm...will I be reprimanded for laughing? Oh well...that was funny as heck!
  16. I saw this episode a couple weeks ago. I dont want to spoil it for anyone but...the little boy has celiac disease.
  17. Elonwy, Thats awesome!! Sounds like you had a perfect gluten-free birthday. Happy belated b-day!!!
  18. I think you make a good point. I don't consider being on this diet a punishment in any way...I think of the positive but I do have bad days and thats inevitable with this disease. Brainfog, depression, irritabilty...it all comes with the territory and we all go through it. I think the amazing thing about this board is that on those bad days you can always...
  19. IMO if your biopsy is negative it really doesnt mean anything as far as whether you have celiac disease or not. If its positive you have it for sure though. Biopsies arent completely reliable...they can easily miss damage. The fact that you've already started the diet makes it even more unlikely they'll find damage but it doesnt mean you dont have celiac...
  20. I second Karen's suggestion about having the thyroid checked. When my hair falls out its usually my thyroid. Thyroid problems are common with celiac.
  21. Thanks Jen!!! I've been having this same problem all week. It was driving me crazy. I even emailed Scott but still couldnt figure out how to fix it. It was taking forever to read the posts the other way. Thanks Matilda for posting this question.
  22. Well I dont know the answer to your question but I know exactly what you are describing. When I was very sick (still eating gluten) I was the same way. I was extremely light sensitive (didnt see bugs though), I found it extremely hard to find words and avoided conversations and also avoided eye contact for some reason. This was SO unlike me because I normally...
  23. That just blows my mind. What is it with doctors...why dont they ever want to run the tests? Whats it to them? If you did have anemia wouldnt celiac be a good reason for that. HELLO! Also since your Mom has it you would think that they would check for celiac first and foremost. So the doctor just looked at you and decided that you couldn...
  24. Gluten cant get absorbed into your skin but if you have it in your lotion or lipstick or anything like that...theres a good chance it will end up in your mouth.
  25. Hi, I have Graves Disease too. I never got an "official" diagnosis because I started the diet before any tests were run. I can see why an official diagnosis would be important in your case. I get bad symptoms so I guess it wasnt necessary for me to know "for sure". Good luck to you.
