Latest Celiac Disease News & Research:

Research tinnitus. I have tinnitus and I truly do not think it is related to my celiac's. The ringing has been terrible for the last 4 months and I have not been glutened. The "eye" doctor I work for tells me that in the winter months when we have the heat going, the air inside is too dry and it dries out the mucous membranes in our bodies, giving us ringing...

Nothing like family togetherness, huh? My younger sister and our father are celiac too. My brother refuses to believe there is anything wrong with us. He thinks a good bowl of barley soup would make us healthy. I have 5 kids and most of them have symptoms. I finally convinced 2 of them to be tested. Mike was finally given a blood test, which...

ARCHIVED Modified Food Starch
darlindeb25 replied to Joanne11's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is another personal subject--I think we have to decide for ourselves if we trust modified food starch. I do not and I will not trust it without an allergen list listed at the bottom of the ingredients. I was taught in the beginning to not eat modified food starch and unless I know for sure it is not made from wheat, either by past experience with the... -
ARCHIVED Calling Manufacturers
darlindeb25 replied to cdfiance's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Honestly, I feel we must decide ourselves. We can read the ingredients, we can call the company, yet we must make the final decision. We can be mislead by companies, sometimes the person you are calling has no idea what you are talking about and they will tell you what you want to hear. If I am ever in doubt, I do not touch the product. On the other hand... -
ARCHIVED Any Phd Chemists Out There?
darlindeb25 replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
What a weird bunch!!!!!!!!!!! Loving the odors that people try so hard to get rid of! People are always trying to find a way to get rid of the musty odors in basements. Now gasoline is racid to me, it reminds me of my ex, who drove semi, and delivered gasoline to stations! I dated this man, who seemed really nice, yet he smelled of gasoline too... -
ARCHIVED Suffolk County Vendor Fair
darlindeb25 replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
The Vendor Fair is open to the public. Retailers will be there with their products. You will beable to purchase items, taste items, compare products, etc. The last vendor fair we had was much smaller and was packed with people. Its a great place to come. Join us!!! -
I can check the ingredients at work, but I truly see no reason for there to be oats, or gluten in eye drops. I use Systane (Alcon) all the time and I also use Refresh (Allergan) and also Pantanol (Alcon)--none contain gluten--no reason for gluten to be in them. Gluten is usually a thickening agent, these are drops, which do not require thickening--so I...

I'm sorry for your loss. Only time heals and there is not any time frame. We all heal in our own ways and in our own time. He's with the angels now and will always watch over you.

Dori--Do you have other intolerances? I get diarrhea from tomatoes. Maybe nightshades are a problem for you, maybe soy, or corn? Are you positive that you are not using anything with gluten in it, like shampoo, lotions, soaps, vitamins? Do you take vitamins? Cholesterol at 201 is something to watch, but not horrible, mine is 215. Has your B12 level...

ARCHIVED Life's Blessings
darlindeb25 replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I too wanted to add. It all depends on our definition of praying. I do not sit down, put my hands together and say, "Dear God." I speak with God whenever I feel the need. I talk to my angels, I hear messages from those angels in song lyrics, in repetitive numbers--whatever happens in a days time are messages from God. Thinking about another person and... -
ARCHIVED Sick From Wheat Flour In The Air? Does This Happen To You?
darlindeb25 replied to nederlandse's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was thinking about this the other day. There are those out there that feel it isn't possible for us to get sick just because we think there is flour in the air. I was sweeping my steps off. I have a basement apartment and I had salted the steps because of ice. As I started sweeping, I could taste the salt--proving that you can get airborne objects such... -
ARCHIVED "gluten-intolerant" Vs. "celiac" - Does It Really Matter?
darlindeb25 replied to RiceFiend's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Personally, I feel there is no difference in how you take care of yourself. If you have celiac disease or are gluten intolerance, the treatment is the same. I also believe that celiac disease is the end result of years of damage for some, I feel that you can have aquired celiac disease. With your child, the decision is yours. If you feed the child gluten... -
ARCHIVED Life's Blessings
darlindeb25 replied to debmidge's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Deb, I must remark on this. I am very spiritual, belong to many spiritual forums. I have been told by some that in some way, I wished this disease on myself. Many feel that what happens to us is because we feel we deserve it. I do not feel this way. I am thankful that I know what is wrong now. It was so much worse when I didn't know. I would be up... -
ARCHIVED So Jerry Is Very Frustrated....
darlindeb25 replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hey Jerry, just wanted to mention--I finally see your new pic--very nice! I dreamed one night that I was eating a hot dog in a bun and it was so good, then all of a sudden it hit me that I can't have that bun and honestly, I woke up in tears, so shaken, I coul dnot believe it. I actually felt like I had ate that hot dog and would soon be very ill.... -
ARCHIVED Yogurt
darlindeb25 replied to infiore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I will not buy Dannon. I was looking at the Dannon Fit and Trim, it had gluten in it. I wouldn't trust them, they have denied safe equipment for years now. I love Columbo yogurt, most Kroger brands are gluten-free, besides the obvious ones, Breyers is gluten-free. I have tried to get info from Axelrad here on Long Island, but they never get back... -
ARCHIVED Cadbury's Cream Eggs
darlindeb25 replied to Kyalesyin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Cadbury eggs are gluten free in the US--even the caramel ones. -
ARCHIVED Msg?
darlindeb25 replied to pugluver31902's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is simply not true. You cannot say that we all have "thresholds" and then decide that for *most* people that threshold is anything more than 2-3 cigarettes. Its not logical....especially considering second hand smoke kills plenty of people every year. Obviously for these people their threshold was reached at zero cigarettes per day. I'm with you Rachel... -
ARCHIVED Need Help And Advice Please....really Sick
darlindeb25 replied to Annnettem's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was going to mention the soy sauce and you found that out yourself. Have you checked everything else in your home for gluten? Shampoos, lotions, soaps, etc. Are you taking a good multiple vitamin? I'm sure the cancer is a contributing factor here also. My dad was told to use a good supplement drink, gluten free, of course--similiar to the forumla they... -
ARCHIVED Poll:cut Or Wear Your Hair How You Want?
darlindeb25 replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We Deb's agree. I think it took me much longer to deal with my short hair then it does my long hair. If you use a very good conditioner, it is very easy to manage. Pulling back into a ponytail is much easier than styling short hair. Braiding mine can be a problem on the bad neuropathy days, yet those are the days it stays free. I had to smile when... -
They say here on Long Island there is a gluten free bagel that is wonderful. I may have to try and find them, just to see. In Michigan I bought this Ener-g bread at Kroger's that was a rice loaf. It was so heavy and so tough, I hated it. I threw the loaf in the outdoor goldfish pond, thinking the fish might like it. Four days later, that loaf of...

ARCHIVED Poll:cut Or Wear Your Hair How You Want?
darlindeb25 replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I love my hair long, I always have loved long hair. I know my hair is pretty and I know it's one of my best features. It looks terrible short, it's too thick to be short. Funny thing about it though, now that I am older and my hair is longer than it has ever been, now it is getting curls. My sweetie loves it long, yet would never tell me not to cut it... -
ARCHIVED Whole Grain Bread?
darlindeb25 replied to russtay1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Check out flaxmeal or flax seed. It can be added to breads you make or to yogurt--whatever. Whole grain refers to wheat or rye bread, usually anyways. -
Soy did not bother me for almost 2 yrs after going gluten free, then I became intolerant of it. I too believe soy is not good for any of us. You should be wheat, rye, and barley free, not just wheat. Do not use anything with barley malt in it, or even if it simply says malt, you should avoid.

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been This Stupid ?
darlindeb25 replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We all make mistakes Georgie--everyone of us. Just "wipe yourself off and start all over again!" Habits are hard to break. That was very difficult for me in the beginning--I always tasted what I was cooking. My kids always liked noodles and I always ate one to see if they were done--that all had to stop. Never stupid--just accidents. -
ARCHIVED Pork Digestive Systems Of Pigs... Does It Remove Gluten?
darlindeb25 replied to HawkFire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hawkfire, I am not going to argue with you, you clearly have your own interpretation and have your mind set on it. Eating pork for you would be wrong because you consider it morally reprehensible. Eating pork for me is not wrong and it does not make me less of a Christian than you. If you wonder why people are hostile towards you, it's because you are...
