surviormom replied to Lynayah's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I do a lot of Julia cooking and just substitute when needed. I use Jules flour though. I like better batter, but Jules is my pick. My family is still just as pleased. -

ARCHIVED Has Anyone Suggested A Diigestive Enzyme ...
surviormom replied to FloB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For 2 months now, I have been taking 2 different probiotics, magnesium, digestive enzymes, extra vitamins, and Betaine HCL. Managed to go on vacation and I know there was cc and only minor impact. Everyone is different, but I just could not believe how well I came back. I really expected more of a reaction after all I had been through this year. I really... -
ARCHIVED Nervous About Family Vacation... Help!
surviormom replied to MYSweetPea's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Home 4 days tummies are all good, sinuses are improving. So, lesson, probiotics, vitamins, and enzymes helped, or we just really got lucky. We really did try to stick to good food, but I know the kids had some gluten food, and I know, I encountered CC. Relatives do not always understand and just want to spoil kids.- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Nervous About Family Vacation... Help!
surviormom replied to MYSweetPea's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Just came back from vacation. Our host had a ton of gluten food, we tried to eat out a lot and I managed to avoid the bad food as much as possible, loaded up on probiotics digestive enzymes acid aids etc. and do not feel bad. Neither do the kids. No one is showing the signs that I expected. The only issues are in the bathroom, and that is mild. How did...- 6 replies

ARCHIVED Severe Chronic Constipation
surviormom replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suffered for years, and until being gluten-free, and going through all of my issues this spring, nothing had worked, but a year of gluten-free, things were better. Then things were bad again, now I am somewhat regular. gluten-free, not just grocery store purchasing gluten-free, but eating whole natural foods. I cook almost everything myself. Few grains... -

ARCHIVED Best Flour For Baking?
surviormom replied to Elfunk11's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I can second that. I am no expert, in celiac and gluten intolerance, I am learning every day, but I am an excellent cook/baker, best flour I have found. It allows me to use many of my old recipes still I just have to swap flour and milk/butter. I have 4 bags in the pantry right now. Just made birthday cupcakes with it. -

It was awful all of my life. Awful, but in the past few years I had some that were like I had just given birth. Having done that 5 times, I know what its like. Infertility was not a problem with me, or if it was, maybe we would have had a lot more kids??? Anyway, Yes, they were awful, until I went Gluten Free, then, WOW!, what a difference. They were... -

So is that why the GI wants me on Prilosec and the GP wants me on Zantac, both want me on Gaviscon, and I just want Betaine and Slippery Elm. When did it switch from healing people to money money money. That is just wrong. -
ARCHIVED Esophagitis Not Healing
surviormom replied to MdkIrish's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had to get up from the table and I know there was nothing in my body that was not supposed to be there. I have been following the diets thoroughly. Any ideas? I felt like my Esophagus was closing up on me. End result was spitting up in the bathroom, and then I felt better. No foods, came up, just coughing up, some fluid and all was well, I could breath... -

Hi, I am doing everything I am supposed to do. Yesterday, I went to lunch with my hubby, and I was having a salad, not a speck of bread around us, or cheese anywhere. Everything should have been good for me. I used oil and vinegar dressing. Drank water. Had blood work done that morning, so not even my 1 cup of coffee for the day was had. I was clean...- 4 replies

ARCHIVED Another Symptom I Didn't Know I Had
surviormom replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We first noticed this when I was pregnant, because smells made me sick. But, I can relate. Me too, big time. My husband never smelled the garlic on me or the vinegar, but I sure could. I have always wondered what causes that heightened sense of smell. -
ARCHIVED Another Symptom I Didn't Know I Had
surviormom replied to bartfull's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would smell vinegar and a few times when I was sick recently, I smelled garlic. Now I am a good cook and cook a lot, but I had not used garlic when I was smelling it. And the vinegar smell was on me, it was my sweat. YUCK! -
I kept doing that in the beginning, that is just one reason everyone is now eating this way, that and at least 2 of our kids have little things that add up to gluten and go away without it. The other 3 have had improvements without it.
