  1. My heart and prayers go out to you. Having a sick child is a very hard, trying thing to deal with. Yogurt is absolutely Dairy, (BUT my GI told me I could have that and cheese what a riot!). Avoid it. If your son cannot have dairy, avoid anything with milk, casien, lactos, whey, and there are more. Though you indicate no food allergy, here is some good...
  2. At least make it enjoyable!!! How about Pizza, Beer, whole wheat bread, bagels, Oreo Cookies, croissants!!! Think of all those things that you have had cravings for, and INDULGE! If you gotta hurt yourself, at least enjoy part of it!!!
  3. I think you need to argue your case more with your insurance company. In a nutshell, the ONLY treatment available for celiac disease is a gluten free diet! In order to apply that treatment you may need to see a nutrionist or dietician. If you have been formally diagnosed by a docter with Celiac disease, then your doctor can attest that the change in diet...
  4. I miss cracker barrell. Their red sausage, biscuits, particularly the hash brown casserole... my guess is that there are items we could eat, if we were willing to take the chance, BUT I'm betting the company is taking the position of stating that there isn't anything they'll call gluten free simply to avoid any of the risk!! (See McDonalds lawsuit).
  5. I'm with you Carriefaith, last time I ate them I had a severe reaction, so for me, and my family, NO WAY! NEVER!!!!
  6. I haven't eaten ore ida tater tots since going gluten-free since they aren't on their published gluten-free lists. BUT, if you live near a Giant Eagle (MidWest grocery chain) I have verified with them that their tater tots are gluten-free!! And they are YUMMY!
  7. OK, so the batch that was tested was allergen free. Are they going to continue to test every single batch of fries to ensure that they will continue to be allergen free??? I cite Amy's kitchen who states that their products are gluten free, but once in a while a supplier can change something and guess what, someone gets sick!!! HOW, HOW do they do this...
  8. It can be soooo hard to have a young one that has food problems. Both my sons have food allergies, and my oldest, I believe, got my celiac disease as well. It makes me so sad that we cannot take him to restuarants, particularly becuase he has gone to them in the past. However I know that to truly manage his illness we simply cannot take him out to eat. Is...
  9. Please note that McDonalds is NOT effected by the new food labeling laws, they are not a packaged foods provider, they are a resturant operator and do not need to comply with the new food labeling laws. I'm on the fence on this whole issue. Was McDonalds truly trying to help us in good faith?? I could only believe this IF they truly did not have...
  10. Hey!! Do you know if the Kraft Cheese is Milk free as well???
  11. I've been wondering the same exact thing about the rice mac n soy cheese!! I will write them today!!! BTW: There was a thread regarding Amys and cross contamination recently. They indicated that they were setting up a gluten free processing area, and their own testing equipment.... cannot find that thread, but I was wondering if there was any ETA...
  12. Perhaps it is due to multiple food allergies, and Wheat intolernace, but my 4 year old knows that he cannot have anything prepared by other people except for a few specific items that he knows, such as marshmallow Peeps, Staruburst, Smarties. Other than that he won't accept food from other people, as we've educated him to understand that he cannot risk...
  13. I second that!!! Daddy Sams is AWESOME and I can get it at a local Supermarket. For those that like Salmon, Daddy Sams also makes a Salmon glaze!!
  14. Campfire brand marshmallows are gluten-free Then, you can use Cocoa Pebbles, or Fruity Pebbles... MMMMMMM
  15. I hear you! My son is anaphylatic to peanuts, and also allergic to tree nuts, milk, eggs, the list goes on. Finding candy is HARD!! Beyond making your own! You can check: Open Original Shared Link also Open Original Shared Link (These people are great!!!! I happen to be lucky enough to live close by and can pick up stuff!)
  16. Sorry to start yet another topic on McDonalds, but I did not want this to get buried! The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis network has made a press statement regarding McDonalds recent disclosure. It addresses many of the comments contained in these forums.... Full text of the article is available at Open Original Shared Link click on the link for FAAN...
  17. This is exactly why we stopped eating at Burger King.
  18. I have had the test performed. My GI Doc called it a Camera Endoscopy. He suggested it after ALL my testing showed absolutely nothing wrong with me, (bloodwork, Upper GI series, endoscopy, colonscopy). basically just swallow a pill sized camera and wear a vest that records the pictures. It took about 6 hours and was absoultely painless. the vest was a tad...
  19. Meat allergies / intolerances are quite uncommon as you indicate. That is what worries me. I've been a heavy carnivore my whole life, and until I started getting digestive issues after minor surgery 1.5 years ago I never had a problem. Once I identified gluten and milk as an issue and eliminated those, then I noticed the meat problem. I will have to try...
  20. Nexium is just fine. From their websit: "Gluten is not an ingredient in NEXIUM" Open Original Shared Link
  21. I've been wanting to make a topic like this for some time, but just haven't gotten around to it...thanks!! YES, I have problems with all kinds of meats. Chicken gives me an upset stomach, with some pain. It takes my appetite away for about 12-18 hours, I am not hungry, my digestive system seems like it is plugged up and stopped. This always happens...
  22. Elonwy, Sorry to burst your bubble. I sincerely hoped you were going to tell me that you had inside info that they were fine!!!! I am a tater tot lover myself. I researched Giant Eagle brand and they are gluten-free, however I don't know if they are in your area or not.... Glad you ask!!! Dairy and nuts are a big issue for my...
  23. I think that their cereals are all GREAT! I go through at least 1 box every 2-3 days. I also truly enjoy their Rye bread. I wish they would offer a mix so that I could bake it fresh though...
  24. Elonwy, Are you sure the Ore Ida Extra Crispy tater tots are gluten-free?? They do not appear on Ore-Idas gluten-free list. I would love to get them though!!! ALSO I just spoke with a McDonalds rep and they indicated that "McDonalds has not changed the ingredients in the french fries in any way. One of our suppliers of an ingredient in the french...
  25. Whlie not my favorite, the best alternative to McDonalds french fries (outside of Wendys) would be Ore-Ida Fast Food French Fries. they are gluten-free and DF, and you fry/bake them yourselves. They are made to mock the fast food fries obviously!
