I am glad that you are going to pursue some medication advise. It would also be wise to make sure that there is nothing else to be concerned about. Pale colored stool can be a sign of many things, including liver issues and hepatitis.
When they did my endoscopy, they found Celiac, gastritis and a large sliding hernia. Going gluten free has helped those issues tremendously.
Celiac can be triggered by many things, and illness, a pregnancy, emotional stress, physical stress, etc.
Why don't you think about beginning a food diary. Documenting everything you eat and your reaction. I would certainly help you determine irritating foods.
I hope you find your answers soon.

i have no idea whats wrong with me.
i have so much pain (like a stabbing pain) in my lower left abdomen area.
i ate nothing for dinner. i had salad, and some mint chip ice cream.
what could be wrong with me?!
Do you have someone with you or can you call someone? A lot of people here use a heating pad for comfort. Drink lots of water.

I have suffered for years with IBS. Over the last few months I have been getting a very painful stomach around the gullet area and latterly worse when I eat. Suddenly last weekend I developed very pale stools which degenerated rapidly into watery diarrhea which I have had since and food is going straight through me. Gall-bladder has been checked and seems to be ok but I haven't a clue what is going on. I do suffer from food intolerances, particularly dairy and now I have noticed things with tannin in and Salicylate overdose I think if I eat too much veg.
Just wondering whether a sudden change like this could be symptomatic of Celiac. Have others experienced this? I'd be grateful for any input.
Welcome AliB,
Yes, sudden change in bowls are a symptom of Celiac, along with 200 others. Celiac often needs a "trigger" to engage many of the symptoms. (but not always).
I was diagnosed with IBS for most of my life, but stress kicked in the Celiac. It's as if, it happened in one day. I went to the bath room and came out two months later, when I was diagnosed. (we talk about these things very freely here
)
I would suggest starting a food diary. Do NOT begin a gluten free diet if you are considering testing for Celiac.
If you choose to be tested for Celiac, here is the Blood Panel to request of your doctor:
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
Take some time to walk around this site and see if it fits.

Sorry Amanda,
I hope your problem neighbors move out soon without further issues.

You are not too far gone unless you're six feet under!
Welcome,
I don't know what CFIDS is, could you fill me in?
The gluten free diet take a while to master as it can be quite complex. It also will take some time to heal, providing that gluten is your issue.
Can you expand on your symptoms and your current meds?

Citric acid is not gluten related.

We have people from all walks of life and various religions or even lack of. With all due respect, it is recommended that personal religious statement be avoided.
Thank you.

I don't have the "bed-bug" feeling, but often I can't keep my legs still and had difficulty sleeping. I shook my leg all night. My doctor suggested that I take a benadryl at night. It has helped me sleep and no more fluttering feet to keep my buddy awake.

Melissa,
You aren't the first student to run back to the dorms after eating in the dining hall and you most likely won't be the last.
I swear, there IS something in that food.
But, on a more serious note...you may be reacting to MSG which is often in prepared foods. I would think, some of the foods a cafeteria would serve. Many people here are sensitive to MSG.

I am confused. My daughter was diagnosed approximately three weeks ago through bloodwork (ttg and IGA gliadin were positive for celiac disease). We have started a gluten-free diet but am now finding that we should not go gluten-free until diagnosed through biopsy. She will see a pediatric GI doc in a few weeks. Should I wait to see him before we go gluten-free or continue to be gluten-free and see what he says?
Also, I recently read in Dr. Peter Green's book Celiac Disease, A Hidden Epidemic, that gluten in only harmful when ingested and that it is not necessary to switch to gluten-free lotions and shampoos. Please advise if this is true. Thanks everyone for your continued guidance. I'd be lost without this website.
You already have a diagnosis for Celiac through your daughter blood work. The biopsy may or may not confirm celiac, but it can determine the level of damage done to the intestines. She does have Celiac and she should be on the diet. You are doing okay, so don't doubt yourself. Children are resilient and they heal quicker than adults.
Gluten must be ingested to be harmful. Children especially, tend to put their hands and hair in their mouth. You want to exclude all possible exposure to gluten through shampoos and lotins.
I have the utmost respect for mothers of celiac children. It's much harder than being an adult with Celiac. Quick heath to your daughter.

Need a little feedback. I am new to this board and finding information very helpful.
I had an anti-endomysial test done in July 07, negative.
I had a biopsy done anyway, Nov 07, negative.
I had food allergy tests, Jan 08, negative.
I am intolerant of gluten and possibly dairy by way of elimination dieting since the beginning of this year. There has been cheating and experimenting with organic food so I am not completely gluten-free.
Would it be worth having other blood tests at this point? Need I still be on gluten for those?
Or just go gluten-free and consider instead something from the Enterolab or some other place?
Blood test can be inaccurate whether someone is on gluten or off. They are not conclusive.
I would say to go totally free of gluten. No cheating. Concentrate on the gluten and dairy for some time and see how you feel. Several months down the road, add the dairy back and test the waters.
I have no experience with Enterolabs, so I don't recommend. Others here have been quite please with them.

Glad to hear that you are doing so well. And, we all make some slip-ups from time to time. It would be impossible not to.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Connie,
If you would like to be tested for Celiac, you should continue to eat gluten. Cheating since September will certainly help in this situation.
Here is the blood test that you should request from your doctor:
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
This may be the start to continued good health for you.

scotty,
Do you have a doctor that you have a good relationship with? Have you every done food testing with an allergist or maybe through Enterolabs.
I hate to see you struggling without answers.

I've had two instances of loose bowels the last week, and I noticed that the two things that coincided with these incidents were onions and also high fat consumption the day before (good fats, but fats nonetheless). Anyone see anything similar?
Both could be culprits for an unsettled stomach. Raw onion are particularly hard for me to digest, but I sure do love them.

I have entertained the idea of starting a group. What would you suggest would be the best way to go about it?
Am open to all suggestions.

This is a great please to start. Deborah will help you out any way she can. And, I might add, the Celiac Disease Foundation has one of the best newsletters that I have ever seen.

Hey Respira,
It's great that you posted that information. You have quite a list by now.
I just wanted to add something. The Campbells list of gluten free products is the US list. The Canadian Campbells listing is much different. Why? - I haven't a clue

I love KIND bars. They have dates, nuts, and fruit. I would not consider them a meal replacement bar, rather for a cookie fix.
I have found them at the Fresh Market, Farm Fresh and some upgraded Food Lions.
