  1. Hey Emily,

    Welcome to the forum.

I don't see any reason why having Celiac would keep you from pursuing your career.

Once you have mastered the diet, I can see no limitations. Just find some gluten free donuts with your coffee when you are doing the 4-12.

  2. I think that buffetbride wrote an excellent response. As she stated, ultimately we are only responsible for ourselves in keeping ourselves happy and healthy.

I have raised two daughters and I have supported them every second of their lives, whether they liked what I was saying or not. Venting is welcome here, but you have to be prepared to get some unsuspected responses.

Ali, maybe for the time being, you should concentrate on your diet and keep the social situations to a minimum. This might give you some time to avoid conflict and gain the confidence not to be bothered by what others are doing or not doing.

I have sympathy in your situation and hope that it can be settled soon. Those early college years are rough. I remember them well <_<

  3. Hello everyone,

I have read that celiac and gluten intolerance often goes undiagnosed, and often one's intestines are being damaged without even knowing it. My question: will the intolerance always eventually manifest itself with physical symptoms, and if not, why does it matter that a person like that should change their diet? (also, how would they know in the first place to get tested?)

    Welcome!

Yes, it takes an average of 11 years to diagnose Celiac Disease. Celiac can be non-symptomatic although it will continue to cause damage and it is often discovered through thyroid, adrenal and other abnormalities.

Celiac is a disease that effects the small intestines. The autoimmune response to gluten can attack other vital organs as well.

If one is diagnosed with Celiac Disease or a Gluten Intolerance, the prescription is the same symptomatic or not - total gluten free diet.

  4. Ash,

I am SO sorry that you had a terrible experience with your chaperon. I firmly believe that every action should be accountable.

Please have your mother continue to make her voice heard on your behalf. If not the Major, then his commanding officer.

As long as the truth is on your side, you have the power to kick some @ss.

  5. Judy,

I did watch it. I thought she was rather bizarre and TOTALLY void of any emotion. Perhaps that HUGE box of drugs at a HUGE cost she takes daily has neurological effects on her. (I have never been in that position but) If she wants a baby THAT bad, adopt. I do not want to be insensitive to those with fertility problems.

I found her very strange and now can understand her ambivalence to the e-mails sent to her regarding her statements on her radio show about the "new fad diet".

  6. Is it really necessary to join a support group? How many members have found it to be helpful and stay with their group for long periods of time.

    Welcome,

This site is the best support group you will ever be able to find, with so many people who are very willing to offer their time, experience and research with others.

I do not have a support group near me, but I would assume that it would have been helpful in the beginning with information as to where to shop and local product information.

  7. Sarah,

There used to be several Raleigh/Cary people who posted regularly. Haven't seen them much.

According to my Triumph Dining Guide:

    Bonefish - Cary

    Biaggi's - Cary

    Carrabba's Italian Grille - Cary/Raliegh

    Jack Astor's - Cary

    Outback - everywhere

    P.F. Chang's - Raleigh

    Ruth Chris - Raleigh

    Sullivan's - Raleigh

    Ted's Montana Grille - Raleigh

....most have gluten free menu's. PM me if you need addresses.

  8. Wow, I'm getting so many wonderful suggestions.

I raised my two daughters and they are out of the house (although one considers my kitchen a grocery store), but at least she comes home.

It's just the two of us, the more I read, the less I want to raise a Jack Russell. A friend has two, and I should be just as content to enjoy his, then go home and find my house intact. Serious second thoughts.

I have been looking into Labradoodles and find them wonderful. The temperament of a lab and the intelligence of a poodle seems like a great combination. A lab mixed with a "minnie" poodle  would be a great size, but unsure about the possibilities. Is there such a size?

Another thing of concern. My husband would be the primary evening walker and NO SUCH PRISSY DOG would accompany him in public. Yeah, well....he cries a sad chick flicks too. :P

Our hopes for the future is to sell our house (on the market currently) and buy a smaller house and a bigger boat.......so have dog, will travel.

ANYWAYS...I am lovin' all the suggestions and stories. All suggestions welcome.
