Welcome Connie,
You have found yourself in a wonderful place to learn about Celiac.
Yoplait Yogurt is gluten free and is now begun to label Gluten Free.
EDIT: Of course, minus the cookies and cream and crumbs, etc...

I will wait for others with experience, but I just wanted to pass on a

I think that buffetbride wrote an excellent response. As she stated, ultimately we are only responsible for ourselves in keeping ourselves happy and healthy.
I have raised two daughters and I have supported them every second of their lives, whether they liked what I was saying or not. Venting is welcome here, but you have to be prepared to get some unsuspected responses.
Ali, maybe for the time being, you should concentrate on your diet and keep the social situations to a minimum. This might give you some time to avoid conflict and gain the confidence not to be bothered by what others are doing or not doing.
I have sympathy in your situation and hope that it can be settled soon. Those early college years are rough. I remember them well

Thanks Scott. The "last unread" buttons are back. Lisa is happy!

Thanks Mango.
They most certainly are behaving strangely. Guess Scott needs new ink.

Is it me ...or have the "go to last unread" buttons disappeared?

Hello everyone,
I have read that celiac and gluten intolerance often goes undiagnosed, and often one's intestines are being damaged without even knowing it. My question: will the intolerance always eventually manifest itself with physical symptoms, and if not, why does it matter that a person like that should change their diet? (also, how would they know in the first place to get tested?)
Welcome!
Yes, it takes an average of 11 years to diagnose Celiac Disease. Celiac can be non-symptomatic although it will continue to cause damage and it is often discovered through thyroid, adrenal and other abnormalities.
Celiac is a disease that effects the small intestines. The autoimmune response to gluten can attack other vital organs as well.
If one is diagnosed with Celiac Disease or a Gluten Intolerance, the prescription is the same symptomatic or not - total gluten free diet.

That WAS really easy. Thank you!

Easy solution! Look on your right of your original post and click on "options", scroll down and click onto "Standard".
That should get you right back to comfortable ground. Every once in a while that will happen to me.

Ash,
I am SO sorry that you had a terrible experience with your chaperon. I firmly believe that every action should be accountable.
Please have your mother continue to make her voice heard on your behalf. If not the Major, then his commanding officer.
As long as the truth is on your side, you have the power to kick some @ss.

This listing indicates that it is a October 2007 update. Hope this is helpful.

Restaurant dressings should be chosen with caution, as in many store bought dressing. Many dressing contain gluten ingrediences.
Balsamic vinegar in itself, as stated is gluten free.

Judy,
I did watch it. I thought she was rather bizarre and TOTALLY void of any emotion. Perhaps that HUGE box of drugs at a HUGE cost she takes daily has neurological effects on her. (I have never been in that position but) If she wants a baby THAT bad, adopt. I do not want to be insensitive to those with fertility problems.
I found her very strange and now can understand her ambivalence to the e-mails sent to her regarding her statements on her radio show about the "new fad diet".

We need to have Canadian Karen bring her Altoids car into our parade.
No, I'm not elaborating ... but anyone who was in Rachelville in the summer of 2005 will know about this vehicle.
OMG, the Altoid Car. How could I forget. It resembled the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile with a BIG smiley face in the front, did it not?

I welcomed you on your first post....so to answer you question....I would consider that a luxury to have more than one store available to me.

Is it really necessary to join a support group? How many members have found it to be helpful and stay with their group for long periods of time.
Welcome,
This site is the best support group you will ever be able to find, with so many people who are very willing to offer their time, experience and research with others.
I do not have a support group near me, but I would assume that it would have been helpful in the beginning with information as to where to shop and local product information.

Karen, ya know Ursa's one of the experts here. I am sure she can be helpful.

I just wanted to slide in here and say that I LOVE your user name!

Don't know whether you read the thread from lonewolf (Liz) recently, who had a passing conversation with another parent. After trying the gluten free diet, at Liz's suggestion, the son now appears to be in remission from a kidney disorder.
It just takes one person to touch a shoulder of another to change a life. So keep it up!

Judy,
I saw that as well today. If I heard correctly, she will be on Oprah tomorrow. (verification needed). Ought to be interesting!
-
Sarah,
There used to be several Raleigh/Cary people who posted regularly. Haven't seen them much.
According to my Triumph Dining Guide:
Bonefish - Cary
Biaggi's - Cary
Carrabba's Italian Grille - Cary/Raliegh
Jack Astor's - Cary
Outback - everywhere
P.F. Chang's - Raleigh
Ruth Chris - Raleigh
Sullivan's - Raleigh
Ted's Montana Grille - Raleigh
....most have gluten free menu's. PM me if you need addresses.
-
I would not eat Quaker Rice Cakes, but there are alternatives such as Lumberg Rice Cakes.

This thread is officially over
Scotty,
You may choose not to participate is you wish. No Board Rules have been broken and until that occurs it may continue. Respect to all posters opinions should continue, as it has.

Wow, I'm getting so many wonderful suggestions.
I raised my two daughters and they are out of the house (although one considers my kitchen a grocery store), but at least she comes home.
It's just the two of us, the more I read, the less I want to raise a Jack Russell. A friend has two, and I should be just as content to enjoy his, then go home and find my house intact. Serious second thoughts.
I have been looking into Labradoodles and find them wonderful. The temperament of a lab and the intelligence of a poodle seems like a great combination. A lab mixed with a "minnie" poodle
would be a great size, but unsure about the possibilities. Is there such a size?
Another thing of concern. My husband would be the primary evening walker and NO SUCH PRISSY DOG would accompany him in public. Yeah, well....he cries a sad chick flicks too.
Our hopes for the future is to sell our house (on the market currently) and buy a smaller house and a bigger boat.......so have dog, will travel.
ANYWAYS...I am lovin' all the suggestions and stories. All suggestions welcome.

Hey Emily,
Welcome to the forum.
I don't see any reason why having Celiac would keep you from pursuing your career.
Once you have mastered the diet, I can see no limitations. Just find some gluten free donuts with your coffee when you are doing the 4-12.
