  1. My husband and I are spending two weeks traveling from NY to Nova Scotia and we are hoping to find gluten free places to eat out, (we found a B&B) that says they will accommodate gluten-free so we're excited about that, but anyone have ideas for restaurants?

    Thanks!

    Nicole

    gluten free since 2005

started dealing with the gluten in 1996

No ideas about restaurants...but lobster, lobster, lobsters. Enjoy you trip. :P

  2. Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone sees any hidden gluten that I wasn't aware of in the lunch I ate, which is

Deviled eggs...made with egg, salad dressing (Great Value), mustard, olive

carrots and broccoli in margarine and onion powder

    cheese

    frozen strawberries with sugar

Dr. Pepper (of course-my true love)

Any advice would be appreciated sooo much...I'm trying sooo hard to get the gluten out as fast as I can cause I'm so sick of the brain fog. I was doing so well this morning til I ate lunch!

Nothing jumps out, but perhaps some cross contamination from the mayo or mustard. I assume that you prepared the deviled eggs at home. Anyother non celiac in the house, that double dips?

I have found that the longer I am gluten free, the longer it takes for me to react. If I get glutened it normally takes about 22 hours to notice a problem. So, perhaps it may be from a previous meal or snack.

  3. I've had flu like symptoms (gas pains, diareah, fatigue, dehydration) for the last few months. My doctor checked a few things and sent me to a specialist who checked a few more. I started avoiding gluten on my own when the doctor told me that was the next set of tests (the doctor said it wouldn't affect the tests). The most recent results were a blood test for the antibodies associated with Celiac's that came back positive. The doctor then did an endoscopy with biopsy that came back negative (showing no signs of degradation). The doctor said he couldn't get very far down in my small intestine to take the sample. He wanted to do a pill capsule endoscopy to take pictures all the way down and look for flattened cilia but my insurance refuses to pay.

I'm pretty sure it's Celiac's Disease as I've had stomach problems for years all centered around stressful situations with the exception of this last one. I've even had my gal bladder removed due to massive stones and major burning stomach attacks. I've been great for the last four years after that operation but horrible for the last three months. I started feeling better within a week of stopping eating bread and crackers along with the rest of my BRAT diet (Bananas rice applesauce and toast). The only awful time since came right after inadvertently tasting oatmeal cookie dough i was making for my kids. I felt awful for a day and then recovered and was back to fairly normal within a week. So which test do I believe? The bloodwork, the Endescopy, my own results from removing gluten from my diet? Should I fight the insurance on the pill capsule thing or just leave myself not "Officially Diagnosed"? Will the insurance refuse to cover the dietitian too because the test results are opposites?

I don't have a family history of it but my mom and her mom have always had stomach problems. Supposedly my Great Great Grandma on that side was only able to eat meat, vegetables, and rice or she had stomach problems. I'm sure they couldn't diagnose it back then ; D What do I do? Should I worry about my kids?

I will try to reply. My hardrive it trying to blow up at the moment,..

To make this simple, with a possitive blood test, YOU HAVE CELIAC. No ifs about it. There is not need for further testing. Dietary funds are not needed with these good folks. You can get all of your answers here.

    Welcome to the Club. :)

On the Gluten Free Diet, the BRAT diet consists of Banana, Rice, Apple Sauce and TEA.

  4. Welcome to the Board! I have a daughter who lives in Wilmington, NC. They are surfers and always look forward to the big waves. Hurricane season brings us some anxiety. Let's hope all it does it bring good curls, not damage.

Got any grilling secrets, pass them alone. :)

In the US, most is made from corn. The corn based MFS is safe to consume.

If you have any questions or concerns or hesitations, call the manufacturer...

(Bronco slowly backs out of thread...carefully looking over his shoulder for suprise attackers).

It's okay to come out Chris, the interlopers are gone. :D

  7. QUESTION

I have read that I shouldn't trust things that say Modified Food Starch? and then some are listed as modified food starch (no capital letters). Can anyone explain what I should avoid???

    Thanks!

    Krista

Modified Food Starch in the US is generally derived from corn.

  8. Walter:

School is out and you most likely have some time on your hands. What are you hobbies, what do you do in the summer times?

Sometimes it's hard to dig yourself out of a hole, and I know I have been there. When I was in my early 20's, I lost both my parents. I lived near Washington DC. I worked on Capitol Hill, and did not give a $hit about anything. I was alone. I wallowed a bit....but then got tired of it.

You may have some chemical issues and that should be addresses. The mental issues, you have to look toward tomorrow. There is a world out there! You have alot of friends (birthday party)!

Look forward to what's next. :)

  9. I make another that's similar:

    Baked Beans

    Chilli Beans

    Kidney Beans

    Hillshire Farms Kielbasa

    Ground Beef

    Onion

    Bell Peppers

    Mustard

    Worchestshire Sauce

Red Pepper Flakes and Hot Sause (or added individual)

    Dollop with Sour Cream

We have a big Super Bowl Party and I serve it with a salad and cornbread. Kinda heavy for summer, but good.

BTW: It's called "Blazing Saddle Stew"!!! Anyone old enought to remember?
