  1. Angie, is this the recipe in your avatar? They look sooooo gooooooooood. I'm hungry. So you beat the eggs together, you don't separate and fold the whites in? My gluten waffle recipe separates the eggs and they are so light and fluffy. Delicious waffley goodness. (but not for you or Ty. )
  2. If it were me, I'd have her tested now. It's not as though age three is the magic time where blood tests become definitive proof. If she has to have her blood drawn again in a couple of months, then so be it. I don't mean to be unsympathetic, but if you don't make a big deal of the blood draw and distract her during it, then it probably won't be a big deal...
  3. Ty's been using Rice Paper wrappers lately and if he'll eat them, they must be good, or at the very least, tasteless. Run them under warm water for 10 or 15 seconds to soften them up. He likes ham and mozzarella in them and said he's going to try them for tacos next time.
  4. Ty is invited to a birthday party this coming weekend. In lieu of a cake they are having a chocolate fountain to dip fruit and marshmallows. I checked out the chocolate the mom said she was going to use, and Ty can't have it (there's a may contain disclaimer AND it's from a bulk bin). What kind of chocolate can be used? Could I provide her with Hershey...
  5. Georgie, Shirley's right. Wheat starch is a no-no, but in CANADA they are gluten-free. I think it's important for members to remember this is an international forum, and to be careful when mentioning which products are gluten-free to state the country as well. A perfect example is Lea & Perrins worcestershire sauce. It's gluten-free in the...
  6. Good Grief! Ty is becoming so daring with his school lunches! Last week he strayed from his banana bread/hard boiled egg/pepperoni/cheese lunch that he's been eating every school day for two years to have ham & cheese rolled up in rice paper wrappers, and now he's announced that tomorrow he wants have a jam sandwich! (No PB allowed in his class, it's...
  7. I'm Canadian, but not a teenager, and neither is my son who has celiac.
  8. Beats me why they say it's different. I posted around Oct. 25/05 the results of my talk with Todd at Cetaphil and he said that both the Canadian and U.S. products are manufactured at the same plant. I didn't call an 866 # though. I called 1-800-467-2081 (Galderma Canada). Michi8 - I don't need to know if it's gluten-free for me, I just don't want to...
  9. Check out my new avatar! It's a picture of Lorka's bread, but I baked it! I made it exactly like the recipezaar recipe (I used eggs and milk) except the baking pan had about the same volume, but rather than 9x5 it was 11x4. I think it tastes good, but the test will be whether Ty eats it and the real test will be whether Ty's dad, a self-proclaimed...
  10. Sorry, I can't help except by bumping this up to the top for you.
  11. I have two boys. One has celiac. My husband, my older son, my mom and I all had blood tests after Ty was diagnosed and they all came back negative. I do know that I have HLA B-8 which is one of the genes associated with celiac. I have an identical twin sister who will no doubt get her children and herself tested should any symptoms arise among them. Neither...
  12. Sigh, Sandy, what a rough time you've had. ((hug)) Good luck with getting to a pediatrician quickly.
  13. Just got this from the manufacturers of Cetaphil (Canada) yesterday. I called because Oct. 2005 I was told everything but Capex (a prescription shampoo) was gluten-free. _______________________ Hello Linda, Thank you for your phone message. Please note we are in the midst of compiling a formal list of our gluten-free Cetaphil products. It should...
  14. Happy Birthday!
  15. Wallflower - I'm not trying to be pushy either, but one of the first ingredients on Lea & Perrins in Canada is malt vinegar (at least it was in Dec. 2006). I don't know how the company can say that it is safe. I'm emailing the company to try to straighten this out. Huh. They don't even have email. They have a phone number which they will more than...
  16. In Britian referred to as an "idgit" or in technical terms an "I D 10 T" or for the layperson "idiot".
  17. I'm glad this doctor is doing something. I hope the tests are soon, so you can get your life back.
  18. I have no idea about the non-dairy issue, but maybe powdered soup base is a confusing way to say powdered chicken or veg boullion. You know, like McCormicks cubes for soup stock? That would be my guess. Of course we can have dairy, so I don't know if those are dairy free. Does she have suggestions for substitutions in the back of the book, or where to...
