ARCHIVED Gingerbread Emergency For School
2Boys4Me replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't have the vaguest idea if you're supposed to eat a gingerbread house or not, but I'd rather him have one he can handle for the decorating even if he doesn't eat it. As for the planning with two gluten-free kids in class, this is a co-operative effort between three grade 1-2 classes. There are probably about 65 -70 kids in total. The note said to... -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Emergency For School
2Boys4Me posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
On Wednesday they are making gingerbread houses in class. I will supply a zip-bag of acceptable candies to stick on it, and the teacher knows we need a space away from the other kids gingerbread and pretzels, etc. I need to make pieces of gingerbread squares for Ty and he will probably share with the girl in class who is "gluten-light". I have a found... -

ARCHIVED Christmas Dinner Menus And Recipes
2Boys4Me replied to Sissy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Christmas dinner is at my house again this year. There will be six of us (possibly 10, I'm not sure yet). We'll have: Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli, carrots, tradition (which is a whipped cream, marshmallow, pineapple chunks, grapes concoction that I never eat but is a tradition in my husband's family), crescent rolls (recipe from... -
I like Tyler, but I then again I have one of my own. We call him Ty which is less common than Tyler. Love Charlie as well, and I sort of think Jacksons are gaining popularity. If he has to be one of 3 in class I'd rather him be a Tyler than a Jackson. Personally, we only know one other Tyler but he spells it Tylor. My Ty is pictured on the left in my avatar...

ARCHIVED Wal Mart And Sam's Brand...
2Boys4Me replied to zachsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Canadian Walmarts don't label stuff gluten free. I've asked a couple of "pantry" managers and they all say they don't know when/if it will ever happen in Canada. -
You're right Pauliina, I should have been more precise. Not ONLY made of soy. It's remarkable how many do have wheat before soy in the ingredient list though. There are two brands (in Canada) that I can find easily, but I know how many others have to go to a health food store or organic store to buy gluten-free soy sauce.
-
Welcome to the board! Other than the obvious, watch out for soy sauce for sure. Funny how so many brands of soy sauce are not made of soy. As for the rest, I'm not sure of the labelling laws in Japan, so I can't help you out. Is there a Celiac society or association you can access in Tokyo? Sweet rice is okay, it's just called glutinous rice because it's...

I have one recipe that I halve regularly because it's too much for one meal, and doesn't keep well frozen. I have no problem cutting the recipe in half. I also find this website handy. It's a recipe scale caluclator. Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Nestle's Response...gluten-free List

Shirley, Canadian Oh Henrys are made by Hershey (and have no gluten containing ingredients). I don't know about manufacturing procedures, though. -

Re: Safeway...ours took out the Natural Market and mixed gluten-free stuff with other groceries as well. I buy some of my flours at the health food store (better selection and price) or Superstore (sweet rice, white rice and tapioca) and potato starch at the asian market. At our Safeway the Kinnikinnick is in the bakery section in a freezer but Glutino... -

Angie, what's your all purpose blend? As to the original question: I have Annalise Roberts Baking Classics, Roben Ryberg's Gluten Free Kitchen, Sheri Sanderson's Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food for Kids and Carol Fenster's Wheat Free Recipes and Menus. I have certain recipes from each that I rely on. I also have Bette Hagman's GFG Bakes Bread, but don... -

If they don't want/need anything how about buying some goats and chickens for a third world family to raise?WorldVision (or similar charity) does that type of thing. Last year, my MIL bought 3 chickens and a goat in our name for a family in Guatemala. -
I just picked up the issue today. Good article, but I was disappointed that they call it the epidemic that's draining women. What about men and children? Yes, I know this is a magazine for women, but I still think it should have been mentioned so people don't think it's a "women's disease", you know? The first thing I read was the bubble that said gluten...

ARCHIVED Baby, It's Cold Outside
2Boys4Me replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't find it hard to breathe regularly but taking a deep breath is out of the question. The kids have had indoor recesses since Monday and I think they are going a bit nutty. It'll be a relief for them and the teachers to get outside tomorrow (I hope!) and blow off some steam. Last February I was on a plane talking to a college student from Germany... -

6 sleeps until Disneyland! By then it'll be "warm" here . -10 up to 0. So 32F or a bit below. I guess I should say I want hipster long johns. I have nice long undershirts to tuck in, and I find it very uncomfortable and bulky to fold the waistband down and have the ankles at my calves. The perks of being all leg and no torso. -
I believe canola is an oilseed, not a legume. This is from Wikipedia: Canola was developed through conventional plant breeding from rapeseed[citation needed], an oilseed plant with roots in ancient civilization. The word "rape" in rapeseed comes from the Latin word "rapum," meaning turnip. [b]Turnip, rutabaga, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, mustard and many...

Right now it's -25c but with windchill it feels like -40c. The forecast for the week is pretty crappy until Wednesday (high -11c low -26c) and Thursday will be a toasty -1c. I can hardly wait. Global Warming where are you? I guess the conversion to Fahrenheit doesn't matter because it's all the same at -40. Brrr. Now I am on a quest for low-rise 3...

I agree with the decorations at Halloween being a wee bit too soon. My personal Christmas decorating policy is one my kids disagree with, because they LOVE the Christmas tree. It's this: No Christmas decorations go up until AFTER Uncle Toby's birthday Dec. 9th. We put up a tree which the kids decorate, and have a few little ceramic snowmen type of things...

ARCHIVED Canada, Safe "regular" Foods...
2Boys4Me replied to vampella's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Kraft (Jello), Healthy Choice and Hunts (both ConAgra) puddings all have gluten-free flavours - just check the label. Yoplait mini-go or yogurt tubes almost all are gluten-free. The regular flavours should be fine, just make sure there isn't any granola type flavours or weird cookie yogurt if there is such a thing. Most if not all Lucerne (Safeway) yogurts... -
That's terrible...and you DIDN'T choose to go there your "family" chose for you. Didn't we have a conversation a few months ago about how you were going to put your foot down and insist that if you had to have salad so did everyone else? Sorry you had a rotten time. Did the rest of them at least get food poisoning?
