ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hams
2Boys4Me replied to kaciemarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We don't eat ham very often because I can never figure out what to serve with it. Ideas? -
ARCHIVED Cookbooks-nutrition Info
2Boys4Me replied to nikki8's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Carol Fenster's Wheat Free Recipes and Menus has nutritional info at the bottom of each recipe. The recipes are all wheat/gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Perky O's A Bust...any Other Cheeios Like Rec?
2Boys4Me replied to kimber's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My son didn't like the Perky-O's either. Thank goodness they were on sale for a bargain $4.99 down from $6.99 for a 263g box. They seemed pretty bland. I suppose I'll try to convince him to eat them and I'll put gobs of brown sugar on them for encouragement. He used to live on Honey Nut Cheerios, so that's what we're looking for. -
ARCHIVED For Lynne - Tiredofdoctors
2Boys4Me replied to mouse's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Zoom! That went right over my head. I knew that the last one was you and a dog, and I'd forgotten your tagline. So he's a keeper, eh? Got him trained up just nice. -

ARCHIVED I Just Made A Rock
2Boys4Me replied to Hayleesdad's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Watch it you! Someone may sneak over late one night to liberate your garden gnomes and leave nasty gluten-free bread rocks in your garden. Nantzie, I remember you saying that in another post so I double checked the temp and it was 115F. Maybe I'll try her sandwich bread and if it's a dud I'll give up. I have more breadcrumbs than I can use. I'll... -

Whew! He was referring to the hatch exploding. I thought I might have blinked and missed something. -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
2Boys4Me replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, it's just that years ago, I was told two HLA-As and one HLA-B and nothing about DQ or D anything, so I was wondering if the naming conventions had changed in the last 15-16 years and/or if they are completely different alleles. So, perhaps DQs are subsets (for lack of a better word) of the HLA-B allele. -
ARCHIVED I Just Made A Rock
2Boys4Me replied to Hayleesdad's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It's possible that I overfilled the cupcakes, but I usually put it two thirds fill as with other recipes. They sank in the middle and looked awful. They tasted great though, I just didn't feel like listening to kids make wisecracks about them. You know how kids can be. They were all eating gluten-free cupcakes at the birthday party and in case one of them... -
ARCHIVED Club House Spices In Canada
2Boys4Me replied to maribeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
In the past, when I've called Club House they say they will use the words wheat/rye/oats/barley/malt should they be in the item. They told me they will not "hide" gluten-containing ingredients. Have you called or checked the website? -
ARCHIVED Any "lost"-aholics Out There?
2Boys4Me replied to TriticusToxicum's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Juliet said she was a fertility specialist. I don't trust her. Actually, I don't trust any of them except probably Alex, who I think is Danielle's (French woman's) daughter. Re: Ben being so creepy. I think it's his buggy-out eyes and sticky-up hair that makes him seem so creepy. I have to go to the coming attractions link now because I don't remember... -
ARCHIVED I Just Made A Rock
2Boys4Me replied to Hayleesdad's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hey! I just made a rock today as well. Unfortunately, it was from the aforementioned Annalise Roberts cookbook. It is the second time I've made this rock and I think the last. I will try another a different day. I tried the Submarine bread. I will process it for breadcrumbs. How bad can they be? I've tried Annalise's chocolate cake (cupcakes) and they... -

ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
2Boys4Me replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. And in fact, I think all biopsy proven celiacs should carry lab work with them to prove they are better than you. Of course I'm kidding. Ty is a biopsy proven celiac but there is a teacher at school who a different teacher referred to as celiac. When I spoke to her, I said something like I heard you have celiac, if you have some good recipes I... -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
2Boys4Me replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Andrea. I haven't read Dangerous Grains, our library doesn't have it. I did manage to get Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic, but I only managed to skim it because there were a few people behind me on the hold list and when there are holds you don't get to keep it as long - no renewing allowed. -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
2Boys4Me replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks Happy, that does help and that's what I thought although I couldn't really articulate it. Now for a science question - is HLA-B8 the same as HLA-DQ8? Has the nomenclature changed since I found out I had HLA-B8 in about 1990, and I only hear about DQ here on the forum. Personally, I love their milkshakes, but that's all I know. -
ARCHIVED Who Knows What Their Genes Are?
2Boys4Me replied to Rachel--24's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This question may have been asked and answered already, but I didn't see it. Do you need TWO genes to have celiac? One from Mom and one from Dad? Or is that still unknown? For example, since I signed up many many years ago to be a bone marrow donor I know that I have HLA-B8 which I've only seen referenced once as a celiac gene. I believe CarlaB posted... -
You're not rambling. I have no advice, but wanted to wish you luck.

ARCHIVED Test
2Boys4Me replied to TinkerbellSwt's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm willing to bet it does NOT include a gene test and is the regular celiac panel. Did you talk to the doctor about whether or not that includes a gene test? I think you're right in that since he's gluten free the blood tests will show nothing unless it's a test for dna/genes. Useless answer. Sorry. -

ARCHIVED Cnn Special On Celiac Tomorrow ?
2Boys4Me replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Publications & Publicity
When I go to Celiaccentral.org I only get about a 1" x 1/2" picture of her mouth talking. How do I get the whole thing? -
Welcome! Victoria, BC? The association there was very helpful to me when I emailed about where to eat/shop on Vancouver Island. We had a trip there in August.

ARCHIVED Internation Celiac Symposium
2Boys4Me replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes, I didn't realize the routine testing of kids in Italy was an urban myth. I've heard that from so many different sources. -
(Not sure if this is the right forum) I found this on the braintalk forums. I thought this first bit was interesting.
