  1. Perhaps doctors should refer to the diet as inconvenient and not difficult. We've been doing it for just over a year and after you get the hang of it it's not difficult, but it's darned inconvenient.
  2. Happy Birthday Deb!
  3. I've never even heard of Hersheys Krackle. That must be a U.S. thing, and we're in Canada. According to the label and the girl who said they "clearly label all gluten containing ingredients" (I did NOT ask about cleaning vats/run lines as I figured they were careful with the minis as they are with the bigs.) He's been eating mini Oh Henry, Glossettes Peanuts...
  4. Ty was diagnosed at age 5. We had his hemoglobin tested at his yearly checkup because he'd been falling asleep at the supper table and we thought that was a bit peculiar. His iron was very low, he was put on 5mg liquid iron daily and a month later the level had not gone up. He then took 10mg liquid iron and after 5 months on that, he was tested for iron,...
  5. Actually, she was named after a man. My parents had wanted a boy, and ended up with two girls . I'm the second born twin and was completely unexpected. My parents told the fellow they were going to name their first born after that they couldn't because it was a girl. He said that his middle name was Beverly, and they were welcome to it if they liked it...
  6. FWIW, after my younger son was diagnosed my husband, older son (7 at the time), my mom and I all had blood tests. They all came back negative. (None of my in-laws, nor my brother or sister got tested.)
  7. Thanks Mariann. I'll have to call and check. Ty is asymptomatic, and I've always gotten the "check the label" line. I suppose I figured that the cleaning procedures, etc. would be the same regardless of what's next on the assembly line. We pretty much stick to Hershey's for the Halloween treats because we can get a bag with all gluten-free chocolate bars...
  8. Open Original Shared Link There's a link to a Youtube video of a Free Hugs guy. I'm not sure how true the synopsis with it is, but the viz is interesting.
  9. Even the minis where the regular size bar is gluten-free? I don't understand that at all. The labels should indicate gluten, shouldn't they? Or are you talking cross-contamination not ingredient changes?
  10. In Canada there are two Shake n Bakes that are gluten-free, but they are glazes, not bread crumbs/crispy type stuff. The BBQ glaze and Teriyaki glaze are gluten-free. I was surprised about the teriyaki, but it's true. Let me rephrase that: was true. I bought several packages a couple of months ago, and haven't been shopping for more, so I don't know what...
  11. Hi Everyone, We are leaving for Disneyland on Monday, Dec. 4. Shh! Don't tell the boys - it's a secret. I called Chef Chris - he's on vacation! They put me on to Chef Toby - he couldn't call me back because of restrictions on his phone. He told me to go to "City Hall" and pick up a list of places to eat. What I am looking for now is kid...
  12. What stores is it available at?
  13. Just pointing it out as a frame of reference to find the scene. I don't have the vaguest idea how your software works and I couldn't figure out how else to tell you where to find it. You must have been fixing it while I was looking at it, or right after.

    ARCHIVED Save Me!

Don't come here. We sprinkle malt on everything . I was reading labels on hot chocolate - Cadbury's contains malt!? Couldn't believe it.
  15. I followed the chart and encountered a problem. I said "I appear healthy". My son has celiac so "I have known risk factors". Did the doctor screen me? "Yes". Doctor says the diet is too hard and since I appear healthy I do NOT start the diet. Then the last two pages of text are stuck in between the dissolve from one page to the next. Ditto...
  16. Carrie, U.S. smarties are Canadian Rockets.
  17. I haven't found French's in Canada either. I use a recipe I found on the internet. Homemade Worcestershire Sauce 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 tablespoons water 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon...
  18. Happy Birthday Beverly!
  19. What would you use for a glazed doughnut? Instead of sugar...the glaze...you know?
  20. I don't use them, but had to pop in to say that the other day I saw silicone baking cups.
  21. Ty had VERY low iron levels. And irritability, but I'm not sure if that's personality or gluten. He's been gluten-free for a year and can still be pretty darn crabby. Oops. Edited to say: he was diagnosed via biopsy. "Severe villous atrophy consistent with Celiac Disease."
  22. Ditto. And when did Sayid get back? I assume that he, Jin and Sun swam back to the island (from the boat) and then walked back?
  23. Sorry - I don't mean to butt in, but I think maybe what Fiddle-Faddle was trying to say is: Does your neighbour know that peanuts are off limits in your house? Has she ever been told that peanuts are not allowed inside. For example, I have a friend with four kids, one is severely allergic to peanuts. She has a peanut free house. I know that because she told...
  24. Congrats! Brief hijack : Ty's one year was in August. Last night after trick or treating, Dad said why can't you have a Mars bar? And Ty said. Malt. Then after label reading Daddy learned Mars has malted barley. Yay for kids who know more than dads! Also, Yay for dads who don't mind learning. Now back to patting Tink on the back. Attagirl!
  25. We were ALL thinking it, but only Karen was brave enough to put it in writing!
