  1. I don't know. We had a guy at a restaurant NOT let ME look at the ingredients of ice cream that was always served in a bowl, so no chance of cc from a cone. He checked the ingredients and said, "It has carageenan." I said that that was fine and he said better safe than sorry and gave Ty strawberries that weren't even ripe. He had his dessert ice cream at...
  2. I'd like to ask for clarification on the bolded comment (emphasis added by me). I thought that MSG is usually gluten free but some people can react badly to it. So while it may be bad for some people, it's a safe ingredient for a gluten free diet from the standpoint that it has no gluten. From Celiac.com: Monosodium Glutimate (MSG)1, 4 1) If this...
  3. The closest PF Changs to us is in another country. I guess Boise, Idaho would be the closest. According to Google Maps it's roughly a 16 hour 20 minute drive. 1553km. I'm impressed with the detailed directions, but it doesn't say how long they are allowing for bathrooms breaks, stopping for gasoline, etc. Huh, they have 4 Red Robins in Edmonton. I...
  4. We've only had one gluten-free Hallowe'en and we bought some gluten-free treats for trading. Ty came home and we read labels, and traded. We'll probably do the same this year.
  5. That Pam with wheat has been around for over a year. You just have to check the label to make sure you're getting the right kind. I've found the aerosol pumps for your own oil get all messed up from time to time and send out a stream rather than a spray. Maybe a pricey one of those is the answer. I think mine was pretty cheap.
  6. Her post name is Viola.
  7. I can't even imagine such a thing happening. And then it does.
  8. I made these yesterday and have decided 9 minutes is too long. They are a bit "crisp". We ate most of them though.
  9. Boy things are busy here! Not sure if I mentioned the big hole at the front of my house...we have a deck off a room at the front and our 5 day project turned into a 3 week epic (mostly because of rotten wood and rain). MIL and I finished resurfacing the deck on Monday - good thing, since it was raining all day Tuesday and cool and overcast Wednesday. We had...
  10. My dog, who looks pretty much like Kabowman's avatar, is a great retriever of balls. He's not such a great dropper of balls at thrower's feet. We got him when he was one and he loves running after balls and then running around with the ball in his mouth. I get one throw - I use it wisely. Make sure he sees me throw it, so I don't have to go and find...
  11. Is a cut out cookie the same as a sugar cookie?I neither eat nor bake Sugar Cookies, but they are a staple at my mother-in-law's house at Christmas. She made them, iced & decorated them (checking all labels, of course) and says you can't tell the difference between these and the usual ones she makes. Gluten Free Sugar Cookies â…“ cup margarine ...
  12. Yikes! How upsetting to find a restaurant that is so-called celiac "friendly" or "aware" and have it end up making your daughter sick. I'd say it was either the grill or the chicken wasn't cooked properly. Were they the only two from your group having chicken? Did you call the manager (after) and ask about the cooking procedure for their chicken?
  13. Ty doesn't get symptoms, so I tell people it's like smoking - Nothing's happening on the outside, but damage is happening inside.
  14. Are those your kids in the avatar? They're cute, they look just like you. Chianti is great! It's not a romantic getaway at all, it's very much a family restaurant. Not like the Denny's type or White Spot type family restaurant, but families go there a lot, and it's delicious. They use rice vermicelli for the noodles, but said they will cook a different...
  15. 3'10 1/2". He's only 6! (almost 7) I'm answering for the celiac in our family. Dad=6' Mom(me)=5'8" Big bro= 4'3 3/4" (he's almost 9) I think that the boys are taking after me. Shortest kid in class until grade 8 and then very very slowly creeping up a little bit at a time so in high school, someone you haven't seen in a couple of years...
  16. Do you mean sugar cookies?I neither eat nor bake Sugar Cookies, but they are a staple at my mother-in-law's house at Christmas. She made them, iced & decorated them (checking all labels, of course) and says you can't tell the difference between these and the usual ones she makes. Gluten Free Sugar Cookies â…“ cup margarine â…“ cup shortening 1 cu...
  17. Rah Rah Rasputin Lover of the Russian Queen!
  18. After all the suggestions we went with A Wrinkle In Time - Madeleine L'Engle (a favourite when I was younger...I should read it again!) and Anne of Green Gables - Lucy Maud Montgomery. Neither are mysteries, but both classics in their own right. I looked for The Westing Game and couldn't find it, but Walker thought it sounded great (we read an excerpt...
  19. We have a Battlezone in the basement. My husband used to work for an arcade when he was in high school and college and the guy "gave" it to him for $150 when he got out of the arcade business. Now we just have to fix it so it works. It has a screw loose or something. (LIke it's owner .)
  20. My son has a birthday party on Saturday for one of his friends. She just turned 9 and enjoys reading. She's in grade 4, is a good reader and enjoys mysteries. Any ideas? If it was one of my boys, I'd have no problem choosing a book.
  21. Throw the $$ my way. I'll PM my address.
  22. Someone from Newfoundland/Labrador in Eastern Canada. According to the jokes, they are dumber than a roomful of Blondes. No offense to anyone blonde or from Newfoundland. (Pronounced like NEWfinnLand)
  23. I thought Big Mac sauce was Thousand Island salad dressing. I have never eaten a Big Mac in my life, but that's what the fellas put on if we're having homemade Macs.
  24. Reading labels can certainly be a pain in the ... It has happened where I've read the label and seen nothing suspicious but called the company anyway and sure enough - it's usually the last or near the end of the ingredient list. First I check the bold allergy info line. Then I read the label from top to bottom. Then I put the item in my cart. Then a bit...
