  1. Ditto on the Mission brand! I love supporting a mainstream company that states gluten-free on the label. Hez
  2. Gluten Free magazine did a very interesting and in depth article on blue cheese. I am not good at summaries but the long and short is that there are some blue cheese dressings that are safe (that do not use bread as the starter). I eat Kraft and Marzetti's blue cheese. Hez
  3. I think Health Valley? makes a gluten-free version. The only problem is that none of the soups are condensed. Which if you are using for a recipe is a pain. Which is why I make my own. I get the same condensed thickness that I need. I use this recipe Open Original Shared Link Hez

    ARCHIVED This Just In

My fear is that other resturants will find us too "difficult" and discontinue their gluten-free menu. My hope is that this is just a CYA statement and those people who have had good luck will continue to enjoy the place. I have never been since going gluten-free. Hez
  5. I was going through my living without magazine and noticed an ad for expandex-modified tapioca starch. I visited the website and thought this looked interesting. It is supposed to create a better gluten-free baked good by improving texture. From the website it looks like they are trying to get manufacturers to use the product in their goods. They...
  6. I am trying not to get my hopes up. However, I really would love the freedom of travel, eating out and going to friends houses without the worry of being really sick. Hez
  7. If I was a gambler (which I am not) I would guess that the starch is from corn. However, you really need to call the company to make sure. Hez
  8. I think I got this website from someone here I use this recipe to make cream of ? soup all the time. It is fairly quick and easy. Great substitute for casseroles. Open Original Shared Link Hez
  9. That sounds like my non celiac son when he was three! That little guy was an early riser which is tough because I am not a morning person How long is he napping for? Maybe shorten the nap and put him down a half hour later and see if that helps. Hez
  10. In Estes Par there is an Italian place next to the river called Mama Rosa's (or something like that). I was able to eat a plain chicken and vegies there. They say they can substitute shredded zucini for pasta. However, upon further questioning I found out they boil the zuccini in the same water as the pasta. For the most part I thought they had a good...
  11. That sucks, I love that rice! Thank you for posting the info. Hez
  12. My experience is that vinegar is safe except for malt vinegar and a flavored apple vinegar from Heinz. Hez
  13. I finally got a response. Not that it is helpful. Hez Thank you for contacting General Mills about Cocoa Puffs and Trix cereals. We appreciate the time you have taken to share your comments and will forward them to our product teams. We apologize for any disappointment. ...
  14. I just had onion dip this last weekend with this stuff. I read the ingredients (clearly no wheat listed due to labeling law) and took a chance. I did not eat alot of it but it did not make me sick. There was not a warning for cc due to wheat. Maybe there is barley, rye or oats around the factory. Hez
  15. For me it took six months of not feeling better on the gluten-free diet. I then became very diligent about reading everything. It became a habit like washing hands before eating. It will become part of your life, just give it time. Hez
  16. This may be one of those "myths" that are out there but I thought when you heated peanut oil it somehow broke down and did not bother people with allergies. I never understood this so I always thought it was a "myth". You do need a oil with a very high smoke point. When you season the wok you get it as hot as possible. I am sorry I could not be of more...
  17. Amy's also make a tomato soup, but it is not condensed. I recently tried the Pacific Foods? tomato soup and really liked it. Again it is not condensed. Hez
  18. The onling company is www.glutenfreeoats.com. I eat the oatmeal on a regular basis and have had great luck. I had bloodwork done in the spring and it came back good. Keep in mind that some people react to oats. Hez
  19. Have you kept a food diary? That might help to pin point a particular food. Have you gone through everything to make sure it is gluten-free? Glad to hear that the kitties are Another thing you might want to think about is having your thyroid checked. I know that can really mess things up. Just a thought. Hez
  20. This is not going to be helpful, sorry I cannot remember the name of the gluten-free rice krispie like cereal. I know it says gluten-free on it and it is very similar to the real thing. I have used it numerous times to make treats and they turned out great. I am sure someone helpful will come along with the name! Hez
  21. This is the company I use. I have really enjoyed adding oats back into my diet. I followed their directions on the website as to how to introduce oats into the diet. I went very slowly so I could figure out if it was a reaction to the oats or just an increase in fiber in my diet. I never had a problem. I had my bloodwork done in the spring and it looked...
  22. I love my chicken salad recipe. Unfortunatly it is not written down! I take some cut up chicken, mix with mayo and curry (this can be to your taste). Then throw in some walnuts, celery, green onion and grapes. I either put it over lettuce or eat on bread. Very tasty, now I have a craving! Hez
  23. Wonderful news! Isn't life so great when you feel really good? Hez
  24. I am so relieved to know that others have the same problem with crusty rice! I have a huge rice cooker but I have the same problem. Hez
  25. When I checked over a year ago all Barcardi rums (including the flavors) are gluten-free. Captain Morgan's spiced rum is also gluten-free (heard from a fellow celiac at my support meeting). Enjoy! Hez
