ARCHIVED Blue Cheese Dressing?
hez replied to rkmonckton11's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Gluten Free magazine did a very interesting and in depth article on blue cheese. I am not good at summaries but the long and short is that there are some blue cheese dressings that are safe (that do not use bread as the starter). I eat Kraft and Marzetti's blue cheese. Hez -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cream Of Chicken (or Mushroom) Soup
hez replied to e&j0304's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think Health Valley? makes a gluten-free version. The only problem is that none of the soups are condensed. Which if you are using for a recipe is a pain. Which is why I make my own. I get the same condensed thickness that I need. I use this recipe Open Original Shared Link Hez -
My fear is that other resturants will find us too "difficult" and discontinue their gluten-free menu. My hope is that this is just a CYA statement and those people who have had good luck will continue to enjoy the place. I have never been since going gluten-free. Hez

I was going through my living without magazine and noticed an ad for expandex-modified tapioca starch. I visited the website and thought this looked interesting. It is supposed to create a better gluten-free baked good by improving texture. From the website it looks like they are trying to get manufacturers to use the product in their goods. They...

If I was a gambler (which I am not) I would guess that the starch is from corn. However, you really need to call the company to make sure. Hez

ARCHIVED Waking Up Super Early Since Going gluten-free?
hez replied to kimber's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That sounds like my non celiac son when he was three! That little guy was an early riser which is tough because I am not a morning person How long is he napping for? Maybe shorten the nap and put him down a half hour later and see if that helps. Hez -
ARCHIVED Boulder, Estes Park, Co Restaurants Needed
hez replied to ArtC's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
In Estes Par there is an Italian place next to the river called Mama Rosa's (or something like that). I was able to eat a plain chicken and vegies there. They say they can substitute shredded zucini for pasta. However, upon further questioning I found out they boil the zuccini in the same water as the pasta. For the most part I thought they had a good... -

ARCHIVED Lipton Onion Soup Mix?
hez replied to Nantzie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just had onion dip this last weekend with this stuff. I read the ingredients (clearly no wheat listed due to labeling law) and took a chance. I did not eat alot of it but it did not make me sick. There was not a warning for cc due to wheat. Maybe there is barley, rye or oats around the factory. Hez -
ARCHIVED When Will It Finally Sink It?
hez replied to prinsessa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me it took six months of not feeling better on the gluten-free diet. I then became very diligent about reading everything. It became a habit like washing hands before eating. It will become part of your life, just give it time. Hez -
ARCHIVED Seasoning A New Wok...help!
hez replied to jukie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This may be one of those "myths" that are out there but I thought when you heated peanut oil it somehow broke down and did not bother people with allergies. I never understood this so I always thought it was a "myth". You do need a oil with a very high smoke point. When you season the wok you get it as hot as possible. I am sorry I could not be of more... -

hez replied to chrissy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The onling company is www.glutenfreeoats.com. I eat the oatmeal on a regular basis and have had great luck. I had bloodwork done in the spring and it came back good. Keep in mind that some people react to oats. Hez -
Have you kept a food diary? That might help to pin point a particular food. Have you gone through everything to make sure it is gluten-free? Glad to hear that the kitties are Another thing you might want to think about is having your thyroid checked. I know that can really mess things up. Just a thought. Hez

ARCHIVED Rice Krispie Treats
hez replied to Kibbie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is not going to be helpful, sorry I cannot remember the name of the gluten-free rice krispie like cereal. I know it says gluten-free on it and it is very similar to the real thing. I have used it numerous times to make treats and they turned out great. I am sure someone helpful will come along with the name! Hez -
ARCHIVED Glutenfreeoats.com
hez replied to chasesparents's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is the company I use. I have really enjoyed adding oats back into my diet. I followed their directions on the website as to how to introduce oats into the diet. I went very slowly so I could figure out if it was a reaction to the oats or just an increase in fiber in my diet. I never had a problem. I had my bloodwork done in the spring and it looked... -
I love my chicken salad recipe. Unfortunatly it is not written down! I take some cut up chicken, mix with mayo and curry (this can be to your taste). Then throw in some walnuts, celery, green onion and grapes. I either put it over lettuce or eat on bread. Very tasty, now I have a craving! Hez
