I am one of those celiacs that really is hopeful something like this will happen in the next 10 years. I have no problem eating gluten-free, I actully like it. I find hidden gluten and cc issues when eating out extrememly frustrating. I would be so happy to have something like this to help make my social life feel more normal. Keeping my fingers crossed...

hez replied to Esther Sparhawk's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If I remember correctly smarties in the US (little sugar discs) are safe. However, there is a smarties in Canada (similar to m&ms) that is not gluten-free. Did I get that right? Hez -
Some people have problems with wine, but it is not gluten. I think it is the sufites? You might wan't to try an organic wine. They do not contain sulfites. Enjoy! Hez

ARCHIVED Holidays Are Tough - Feeling Sorry For Myself
hez replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For me this is the worst part of celiac. That felling that I am different. The looking on as everyone enjoys themselves and not able to participate. The hurt feelings and no one seeming to understand. I wish I could say that I have figured it out, but I haven't. I do try and make sure I have food wherever we go but it is difficult. Sending hugs your... -
I think all of us feel at times as if no one else has this disease. That is why we come here, there is comfort in numbers sweetp-You need do dump the quinoa noodles. IMHO they are just nasty. Try tinkyada (I know I mispelled that) it tastes like real pasta and does not fall apart. I can not stand the rice loaf bread. I enjoy the Whole Foods bread...

I thought he had the refractory sprue which is why celiac is listed as cause of death. Although I am probably wrong since I am not up on Kid Rock! Hez

ARCHIVED Rice Crispies? Gluten Free Or Not?
hez replied to mommyetb's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Malt is made from barley. So Rice Krispies are NOT gluten-free nor is anything else that has malt or malt flavoring. There is a gluten-free type of rice krispie cereal but I cannot remember the name. Does anyone else know? Hez -

hez replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been eating them off and on for several months! I have not reacted. Although we did a blood work up this week so I am curious to see the results. I seem to be extremely sensitive. I am not recommending people try this! Please weigh heavily all of the information and talk to your doctor. Hez -
ARCHIVED Help, Please. Cooking For A Celiac Relative
hez replied to lavenderhoney's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I would keep it simple. It is easier for you and less chance of cross contamination for her. I love grilled meats, fresh vegies and fruit. For dessert try ice ceam Pick up some wheat free soy sauce (I think I use San-J, check the label they also make a wheat based soy sauce) and do a quick stir fry with rice. If you limit the processed food you will... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Triggered By Bad Food Poisoning ?
hez replied to brimcp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think child birth might have triggered mine. However, it was seven years between the birth and when my body shut down (had no vili standing). Started to get really sick after I started drinking coffee! Hez -
Before I knew that my pregnancy was ectopic, I had severe nausea. The only thing that helped was to eat almonds (raw) through out the day. Later I was told that almonds are good because they are high in fat, the good kind! Hez

ARCHIVED What Kinds Of Restaurants Have You Eaten In Successfully?
hez replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have had good luck at chains like Outback and PF Changs. I tried a local place recently. Did my homework, talked to the manager and I still got sick. I am assuming from cc but who knows. For me, this is the worst part of the disease Hez -
ARCHIVED Experiment With Whole Foods' gluten-free Bread
hez replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications

ARCHIVED Experiment With Whole Foods' gluten-free Bread
hez replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use this trick for freezing almost anything that can stick (like fruit and bread). I line a cookie sheet with wax paper and put the food in a single layer so that it is not touching. Freeze for a couple of hours (or less depending on what it is) and then bag as normal. Because the bread slices were frozen sepearately they will not stick I think I... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Cross Contamination From Cereal
hez replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know fruity and cocoa pebbles are Kraft products. I am confident in their limiting cc issues. I know many people on this board have run into cc issues with other products (such as Amy's) but I have not. You could always call the company and ask about their cleaning policy. Hez -
I am so sorry your fiance is not understanding. It is so hard to deal with the change but to not have support is another blow you did not need. I would have an open and honest discussion about your feelings and his. Nothing gets better if communication does not take place. When dealing with my dh I always try to use "I" statements. That way he does...

ARCHIVED Birthday Parties And Family Get Togethers.
hez replied to shai76's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am a Mom but I am the one with celiac! Just a few thoughts. When the party is at your house make everything gluten-free and free of allergens for him. That way he can eat everything! I have done this for several birthday's and it has worked out great. Plus it is only one meal. If people don't like it they can leave and eat something else I... -
ARCHIVED Irish Oats
hez replied to TCA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I read somewhere (for the life of me I can not remember where) that Irish Oats can have cc issues. I eat oatmeal with no problem but I only eat gluten-free oatmeal from gluten free oats company. They do not do a rotation crop and test their oatmeal to insure it is gluten-free (family member is a celiac). However, this is a personal decision that requires... -

ARCHIVED Pledge Furniture Polish
hez replied to mac3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have no idea on the gluten status. However, I use this all the time and do not have a problem. But I also try to only touch the dry part of the rag and not get the polish on me. Hez -
For me this is really the hard part of this disease, the social isolation. At least that is how it feels for me. I am so sorry that this happened to you. Some people just don't understand the seriousness of cc. Maybe you could do something for yourself tomorrow that will lift your spirits. Hez
