  1. Yes, you can travel to Europe safely. Print off (or put into your phone) celiac travel cards available for free in most languages. Take EnnisinTexas's advice. Bring food. Do not expect the airlines to actually feed you (50/50 they'll remember to throw on a gluten-free meal even if you call more than once!!!!!). Eat at grocery stores. Mild celiac...
  2. Are you serious? You found a sympathetic GI (12/16) who was shocked that you were not handled properly, asked you to do a gluten challenge, and then did NOT order a complete celiac panel? Looks like your options are to: 1. With your GP or GI's full support, do another challenge and ask in writing for a complete celiac panel. Why would you...
  3. I would take this as "celiac disease is suspected". Yes. Slow GI transit can be a result of celiac disease. This happened to me too as I mentioned previously on my Sunday post (see above). I can be possible to diagnose celiac disease from a colonoscopy if the GI was able to reach and enter the small intestine, but I do not think it is the norm. My celiac...
  4. That is great news! It would be nice to know whether the reduction of nodule size (yours and mine) has anything to do with a gluten free diet, or just healing from celiac disease. Many thyroid websites do recommend a gluten free diet. I wish they would encourage people to test for celiac disease first!
  5. Hopefully, these intolerances will resolve soon!
  6. Gemini, you sound like you could be my sister! ??
  7. Yikes! Barley. This is not gluten free.
  8. Hugs!!!!
  9. You would still get sick. I still can not tolerate onion, garlic or anything in that family though I did regain dairy! ☹️ Make the broth without those items that you can not tolerate. I think cutting out carbs/sugar is probably key to reducing fungus. They love carbs, so reducing them should help if you have a candida issue. Have you had a c...
  10. A slice of bread or two a day is plenty for testing. You are not doing a challenge, but here is the data to back up my claim: Open Original Shared Link
  11. I had a tooth infection (root canal failure), the flu (the knock you on your A*# kind), a failed root canal re-treatment, a tooth extraction and bone grafting, a cold, a re-occurrence of the bacterial infection (or never resolved) -- all without the aid of OTC pain killers as I am allergic to ALL of them in the last 8 weeks. My face is still a bit swollen...
  12. My neck felt normal. I think all your current issues are related to inflammation of the lymph nodes, etc. from your cold. Wait a few weeks. If it is not resolved, then consult your doctor.
  13. It only takes one positive for a GI to proceed and order an endoscopy to confirm a celiac disease diagnosis. I tested positive only to the DGP, yet I had significant intestinal damage. Even in follow-up testing, I still just get a positive on the DGP (when I get accidentallly exposed to gluten). Now, my GI only orders the DGP and saves me/insurance money...
  14. My nodules that has been with me since they were discovered in '97, are gone. Yep, gone along with the enlargement. I never had them aspirated because all my doctors thought they were due to Hashi's and not cancer. I assume that my Gluten free diet calmed down my thyroid and my celiac disease. Who knows? I have not found any scientific research on the...
  15. Sorry that you are in limbo land still! How many biopsies did they take? Your DGP was super high and you have low ferritin. Sure sounded like celiac disease. But villi damage can be patchy. What about a pill camera? It can diagnose celiac disease. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  16. Have you considered a very strict diet? Read this about trace gluten contamination. For those patients who are unresponsive, Dr. Fasano (leading celiac disease researcher/Ped GI) recommends this gluten-free diet. Open Original Shared Link Consider asking your doctor for the DGP. I am at a loss (as you are too)! Some celiacs seem to be...
  17. If it has been two years since you have seen your doctor, you should consider going. You might have thyroid issues (eyes) or you might be anemic (which could affect your being lightheaded)......but I am not a doctor. I do know that once you get one autoimmune disorder, you can develop more.
  18. About the celiac genes. It is not used for diagnosing celiac disease. It can help to rule it out though. About 30% or more of the population carries the genes that can develop into celiac disease, but only 1% actually do in their lifetime. So, it is not necessary to have family members tested unless you have a celiac diagnosis or you strongly suspect...
  19. I have Osteoporosis and was diagnosed two months after my celiac disease diagnosis. It was found when I fractured two vertebrae. My last Bone scan showed that there has been no improvement -- but that is good news for me. I am post menopausal. Not much chance of building bone at my age. I take no supplements, but exercise a lot and eat a very healthy...
  20. Heavy periods can contribute to anemia. Having celiac disease can affect your ability to absorb iron. Celiac Disease can mess with hormones. Has your thyroid been checked out?
  21. I would ask for the complete celiac panel. While the TTG is a good screening test, it does not catch all celiacs like me! ? Ask for the EMA and the DGP tests before you completely rule out celiac disease. Also note that some celiacs test negative to the blood tests.
  22. When I prepped for my colonoscopy, things did not go well. I never knew I was constipated. I went everyday. I did not realize that my transit time had been slowed by intestinal damage. My GI noted that next time (10 years), I would have to do a double prep! I will starve! ? I had both and endoscopy and a colonoscopy done at the same time. I requested...
  23. Give up coffee? Yikes! I never had to give it up. I think it all depends on the person. Coffee is minimally processed. I think your creamer may contain Things that I can not even pronounce. Try a natural creamer (milk-based or something else). I switched to lactose-free milk and a spot of heavy cream. Now I do not have lactose issues, but I have been...
  24. @Kaitster The recent advice you have been given is excellent. I just want to add that two months post celiac disease diagnosis, I was vomiting in the middle of the night most likely due to gluttony (made gluten-free fried chicken). I was not glutened. I know that there is a steep learning curve, but my hubby had been gluten-free for 12 years, so I...
  25. @Ennis_TX -- you have both celiac disease and UC. I would not recommend fasting. You are not overweight and do not have diabetes. You need every bit of nutrition you can absorb. Fasting is the new "thing" out there in diet land. But there is no scientific evidence as to how it impacts you in the long term. Sure, historically, if you did not find...
