ARCHIVED New to the gluten free life, please help!
cyclinglady replied to amyesnipes's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome. A gluten free diet has been reported to be helpful for those with autoimmune issues like thyroiditis, but I would encourage you to get tested for celiac disease first. It might be the root cause of many of your symptoms but you need to be consuming gluten for tests to be accurate. Learn more about testing: Open Original Shared Link and... -

I would recommend working with a dietician and your doctor. You seem to be missing a lot of valuable nutrients on just a nut, egg and chicken diet.

ARCHIVED Immunoglobulin A and Gliadin IGA high
cyclinglady replied to EenieNeNe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I too, have Hashimoto's. You should ask for thyroid antibodies and not just T3, T4, and TSH as those might fall into normal ranges yet your antibodies could be high. I have not found anything about why I continue to test negatively on the TTG except for small children who can have a negative TTG yet a positive DGP (and I am not a small child). My... -
ARCHIVED Immunoglobulin A and Gliadin IGA high
cyclinglady replied to EenieNeNe's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! You do have strange results as the TTG tests typically catch celiac disease. But, you are like me! I only get a positive on the DGP IgA even on follow-up testing. Your result is very very high, but that does not always correlate with the degree of intestinal damage. Mine was barely positive, yet I had a Marsh Stage IIIB on my biopsy. ... -
ARCHIVED gluten question
cyclinglady replied to alunke82's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone has different symptoms for celiac disease. Some have no symptoms at all even if they eat gluten! Look at the link I gave you. Get copies of your celiac test results from your doctor. Maybe you did not get the complete celiac blood panel: TTG, EMA, DGP. -
ARCHIVED Can I keep my cast iron pots, pans and grill
cyclinglady replied to Debyii's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hear ya! Piece of mind is priceless. I weigh out the risks. Is it worth $20 (or whatever) to be sick for 3 months? Often it is not. I guess I am not a gambler. I know others live in a shared household successfully, but I need a safe place where I can let down my guard and relax. -
ARCHIVED Can I keep my cast iron pots, pans and grill
cyclinglady replied to Debyii's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Bleach is only good for killing bacteria. Gluten is a sticky protein that can be removed with soap and water as long as there are no tiny crevices or it is porous. The cast iron pan is pourous. That would need to go through a clean cycle (very high heat) in a self-cleaning oven (after scrubbing by hand first) and then reasoned. The grille? A good cleaning... -

Looks delicious. Dang....I was bound and determine to monitor my carbs starting today (am diabetic beside having celiac disease). There is nothing like a reality check when trying on clothes in a department store dressing room and realizing that you are growing (not so good when you are 55!). ? -
ARCHIVED gluten question
cyclinglady replied to alunke82's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am sorry that you are ill. Celiac disease has many symptoms (over 300). It can not be diagnosed based on symptoms as they overlap with many other diseases. Best to get a celiac test. Here is more information. Open Original Shared Link But the only catch is that you have to beaming gluten daily for about 8 to 12 weeks prior to the blood test... -
ARCHIVED Is weak positive a positive?
cyclinglady replied to JJav123412's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your daughter might be IgA deficient, but it should be enough to validate any celiac IgA tests like the TTG IgA. I would ask your doctor for the rest of the celiac panel. She carries the gene, but so does 30% of the population. ONly a few go on to actually develop celiac disease which can happen at any age! Ask for the EMA and the DGP tests. Why? The... -

cyclinglady replied to Rob S.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So, it sounds fine. I am assuming that you are buying these products in the store, prepackaged, and not off a hot dog cart where cross contamination could be an issue? USDA products , although not under the FDA, follow gluten free guidelines. -

cyclinglady replied to Mermaid's Mom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know that you are desperate at this point in finding a solution for your daughter (mine is 16, so I get it), but celiac disease does require her to be on gluten. Why is a formal diagnosis important? You said it yourself....doubt. You daughter will most like doubt your diagnosis. She is a stakeholder in this and needs total buy in or she will cheat when... -
Is Nausea A Symptom Of Celiac?
cyclinglady replied to spaz-bubble's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! First, you need to be on a gluten diet in order for any celiac testing to be valid. You should ask your doctor if in fact, he tested you for celiac disease. These are the tests (University of Chicago's celiac website): http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/screening/ Going gluten-free for as little as two weeks can impact the tests... -
ARCHIVED Skin rashes
cyclinglady replied to Patty s's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wow! So many issues. I am sorry that you are struggling! I do not have DH. I am one of the odd celiacs who continues to test negative to the TTG even on follow-up tests (DGP IgA positive, moderate to severe intestinal damage via endoscopy). A gluten challenge sounds awful. Not sure I could attempt it if I had DH. I know that you consider... -

Make your own! Make a basic white sauce (butter, milk, and gluten-free flour/starch). Add tomato paste, cooked celery/celery seed, mushrooms, spices, whatever floats your boat. Takes just minutes. Sub out any item (e.g. Milk) for something you can tolerate. -
