  1. Welcome! My endoscopy visually was normal, but biopsies revealed moderate to damage. So, you'll just have to wait for the pathologist's report. I know it's hard to wait! I just just want to point out that your doctor is clueless about the levels of exposure before symptoms occur. Really? Some celiacs have no symptoms yet their small intestine...
  2. We use Purell or Hand Rx (which is made in the USA by Blue Cross Laboratories in Santa Clarita). Bought a huge bottle of it at Big Lots and I refill the cute little Purell bottles to save on cash. I just read the ingredients to insure that gluten is not included. However, I ALWAYS wash with soap and water before I eat. Can't always do that while...
  3. An infected bile duct is serious! ?. If your pain continues, you should see a doctor. Maybe your bile duct is acting up again and presently a bit differently. I can not recall, but do you have a gallbladder? Mine was removed due to infection and it was at 0% functionality. That was not fun! Feel better soon!
  4. Mine is on my pointer finger from needle sticks from hand sewing. On the last 10 marching band uniforms alterations! ??? Seriously, you should consider an ER visit if your pain is that bad. ? ????
  5. Please do not take offense, but have you researched orthorexia? Open Original Shared Link I recently read about this in relation to gluten/(celiac disease) in "Gluten Exposed" by Peter Green, Director of the celiac disease center at Columbia University.
  6. Ah, this is why this forum is great. Extra sets of eyes is always helpful. I should finish my first cup of coffee before responding and really READ and interpret the posting! ? Thank you!
  7. I am not a doctor, but it looks negative. Your value for the DGP IGA was less than 15. I do not know why it says negative/positive. I would discuss this with your doctor. Did they give you an IGA defciency test? This is used as a control test to see if any of the celiac IGA tests are valid. Here is the complete list for celiac testing: Tissue...
  8. There are over 200 symptoms of celiac disease and some people do not have any symptoms! I would recommend getting copies of the lab tests. You should really keep all copies of medical records for your family. If he did not get the complete panel, then you can request it. By the way, in order for celiac tests to work, you must be consuming gluten...
  9. What celiac tests were ordered? I ask because I tested positive to only one of the celiac blood tests and it was not the standard screening "TTG IGA" that is often ordered. A complete panel is best especially if you have another autoimmune disorder, in my opinion! If you did not get the entire panel, then you can not rule out celiac disease. Here are...
  10. Exactly which celiac blood tests were given? Kids tend to test differently than adults.
  11. It probably is fine. I have used (in the past), Betty Crocker mixes which are also owned by General Mills. They can be a bit gritty (mainly rice flour) and the mix you described is full of weird additives. I prefer making my cakes from scratch. I can see your concern though. General Mills is sorting oats mechanically and there have been reports of people...
  12. Yes, it is specific to celiac disease.
  13. I am an oddball when it comes to celiac testing. I tested positive to only the DGP IgA (even in follow-up testing). Weird, but true. That's why there a several celiac tests. None are perfect. People are not perfect. That is why doctors still want to order an endoscopy (my biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB and my sympyoms was anemia, just anemia!...
  14. This article says it well: Open Original Shared Link Here is the author's bio (MD, celiac herself, training at U of Chicago (leading research hospital, celiac disease and a dietician!): Open Original Shared Link
  15. Anxiety is a common symptom of celiac disease (there are over 200 symptoms linked to celiac disease). It usually improves on a strict gluten free diet. When were you diagnosed? Have you had any follow-up testing to see if you are diet compliant? Intolerances are common among celiacs. The most common is lactose intolerance. This is due to damaged...
  16. I seriously doubt there was gluten in the jar of pickles. There used to be an issue with homemade pickles because you never knew if the vinegar used (if originally derived from wheat) was distilled or not. Commercial pickles almost always use distilled vinegar. Some folks are sensitive to chemical smells. I don't think it is celiac related. Maybe...
  17. My endoscopy and colonoscopy were both normal from a visual perspective; however, my biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB. I think you just need to wait for the pathologist's report. What prompted them to go forward with these two procedures if they did not suspect celiac disease? It is a shame that you did not get the entire panel. I personally test...
  18. I gave away my bread machine long ago as I preferred making it by hand (back when I was consuming gluten). I suppose you can replaced those items that come into contact with the dough and you should be fine along with cleaning the lid cover and carefully cleaning the rest of it. But, the purpose of the bread machine was to save time by not kneading manually...
  19. The resuls appear negative, but your son did not have the complete celiac panel. He is so young. Often the DGP IGA or DPG IGG tests are better for small children. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link i am not a kid, but I can tell you that I tested negative to the TTG IGA as well (positive on the DGP IGA), yet I biopsies...
  20. If you can keep your Gallbladder and it heals on a gluten free diet, I am sure you will be much better off! I am thankful that mine was removed. I had no choice. It was infected and it completely stopped working. In the olden days, I would have died. ?. Alas, it is the family curse. Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete. Have...
  21. That's weird, we drink cranberry juice safely. I agree with Squirmingitch, chances are you were glutened by the glass or ice. I know that my in-laws do not use a dishwasher. At their advanced age, they are kind of sloppy and their vision is horrible (MD, glaucoma, and cataracts!) I never eat or drink there, but rely on my food and water I keep stashed...
  22. I buy nuts in bulk with their shells on! I wash them before cracking them open. Most of the time , I am lazy, and prefer to purchase nuts that are unshelled. Those I tend to buy from reliable sources.
  23. The learning curve for going gluten free is very steep. A few months is not very long to heal. I would recommend looking at everything in your diet. Even a seasoned celiac can get glutened accidentally through cross contamination (like me). Check all your medications, supplements, lotions -- anything that could be accidentally ingested. When I...
  24. Just be sure all medications (even probiotics) are actually gluten free. That means calling the manufacturer! Tips to prevent passing out? Just the standard 1st Aid.....head between your knees while sitting or just laying down. There is no way for me to prevent passing out. It just happens. The goal is to protect myself from a head injury or something...
  25. I am the Queen of Vasovagal Syncope! Seriously, I had it since I was a kid. Who knows what sets it off? My last episode was on a plane to Rome this summer. Pilot was ready to divert the plane, but when I came to my senses (luckily a doctor was on board), I knew that I already had a full cardio work up and that I was good to go for another 50 years. They...
