ARCHIVED What are these pains from?
cyclinglady replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am sorry that you are sick! Have you been tested for celiac disease again (just to rule out a glutening?). Symptoms for celiac disease can wax and wane (change). Do not jump to conclusions about cancer! I had lower abdominal pain and doctors though it was a female issue. Turned out I had a non-functioning gallbladder that did not present in a... -
ARCHIVED Conflicting results?
cyclinglady replied to Christina.V's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are in a tough position! A positve TTg of over 200 sounds like (labs ranges can vary) your son could have celiac disease. The TTg is just one celiac disease a screening test. I would ask for the complete panel. If that was not ordered. Some of the other celiac tests are very specific to celiac disease. A genetic test can help rule out celiac disease... -
ARCHIVED Muscle pain
cyclinglady replied to Donna73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You really need to remain on a gluten diet until that GI appointment. A biopsy requires consuming gluten for four weeks daily (8 to 12 for the blood test). I would hate for you to get negative biopsies and remain in diagnostic limboland. You need to do some more research. After all, you are your best health advocate! This link to the University... -
ARCHIVED What is making me sick??
cyclinglady replied to Raywuwei's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am so sorry that you are in a situation living with a roommate who is not considerate! Yes, you could be getting glutened. Can you see your GI and get another celiac test to see if gluten is actually your problem? When I was glutened on 7/7/2015, 30 days later, my celiac antibodies were as high as they had been when I was first diagnosed. Everything... -
ARCHIVED Starting Out On A gluten-free Diet
cyclinglady replied to SuzieQ1234's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Waiting is so hard! ?. Visually, my doctor said I looked okay, but my biopsies revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe damage). Keep us posted and hang in there! -
ARCHIVED Newbee,
cyclinglady replied to leeroyc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
These are the celiac tests. The catch is for the blood tests you have to be consuming gluten daily for 8 to 12 weeks. That is pretty awful, but that is the way it is. ? -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG -EMA IgA -total serum IgA and IgG ... -
ARCHIVED Diagnostic frustration. Help!
cyclinglady replied to Kaj242's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome! It is a shame that your chiropracter ordered a gene test, but failed to do a celiac blood panel which would be more definitive. Unfortunately, you need to be consuming gluten for those blood tests to be valid (8 to 12 weeks). About 30% of the population carries the celiac gene. This test most often helps to exclude celiac disease and not to diagnose... -
ARCHIVED Newbee,
cyclinglady replied to leeroyc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, LeeroyC! If you truly suspect gluten as the source of your problems, experts advise getting tested for celiac disease first before going gluten free. Your doctor can order the necessary blood tests. FYI. It took me two years to feel really well after being on a strict gluten-free diet and avoiding cross contamination at... -

ARCHIVED Storage of gluten-free Flours
cyclinglady replied to freeatlast's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The flour should be good even after a year. It can pick up funky flavors or scents from the frig though. Not sure how good the original packaging was that you had originally. But when in doubt throw it out is my motto. We get enough tummy aches as it is! I keep unopened Bob's in zip-lock freezer bags (we use their hot cereals). But I keep all... -

ARCHIVED 6 months in, lab results
cyclinglady replied to aliciahere's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think you meant an endoscopy, not an ultrasound! ?. Anyway, as long as your test results are going down, you are doing well. They do not have to hit zero from my research. Just below the lab range. -
Just the EMA is missing. That test, if I recall, is very specific to celiac disease but is expensive to run. You have a positive on the DGP IGG though. Two positives, I would say that you mostly likely have celiac disease but I am not a doctor! It is recommended that more that four biopsies are taken. This will help insure that they catch damaged...

ARCHIVED Interpreting celiac serology
cyclinglady replied to Donna73's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yep, that is about as positive as it gets! I am sorry, but you probably have celiac disease ?. The good news is that with a gluten free diet and LOTS of time, you should feel better. The endoscopy? That is a personal decision you need to make with your doctor. Some doctors will not give an official diagnosis without it. Others are willing to... -
ARCHIVED Sad about Holiday food you cannot eat?
cyclinglady replied to manasota's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What? I just baked some Nestle Tollhouse cookies and pumpkin bread using the recipe off the Libby's pumpkin website. Both recipes I used before going gluten free. I only use Pamela's or King Arthur's pre-blended flour. I serve these to folks who eat gluten daily. No one has even noticed that they are gluten free. I use real butter, extra large eggs... -
What about suggesting outings that do not require food? Like the movies, bowling, museums, concert, etc. I can tell you that I used to pack picnic meals for my dates. Everyone loved them! We'd go to a museum and then picnic outside. I can tell you that my husband still asks for picnics (so this strategy worked). I was not gluten free back then -- just...

ARCHIVED Please help, tests results are not good
cyclinglady replied to LookingforAnswers15's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Dear Looking, Just as there are many symptoms and problems from having undiagnosed (or diagnosed) celiac disease, there are as many for lupus. I think you are just trying to wrap your head around this new health problem and I completely get it. I felt the same when I was diagnosed with diabetes a year after my celiac disease diagnosis. I did some... -

Hey Swingtime! What Karen said is true, but we are glad that you joined the forum! I confess that I play it safe and order plain coffees. I sometimes cart my own creamer blend around in my tiny cooler and no one is the wiser! ? -
ARCHIVED Newbie to gluten-free diet
cyclinglady replied to Bread+Butterfly's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I felt some improvement after being gluten-free for six weeks. But all my symptoms did not resolve until I was gluten free for about a year. Hang in there. A lot of patience is needed. Remember celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder and it takes a while for the body to stop attacking itself. Read our Newbie 101 thread under ther "Coping" section of... -
ARCHIVED Could coffee with almond or hemp milk be making me react???
cyclinglady replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, if your gut is inflamed, the coffee might be temporarily bothering you. It is pretty acidic. My Grandma said you should never drink tea alone. She recommended eating a cracker or cookie (maybe that is just a British thing....). Was there anything else in your stomach to offset the acid? Also, both of those "milks" usually contain that seaweed stuff... -
ARCHIVED Testing Daughter
cyclinglady replied to atheresa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Consider having your doctor ruling out celiac disease which is an autoimmune disorder and not an allergy. Thinkabout doing some research at the University of Chicago's celiac website too. These are the celiac tests: -Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA and (tTG) IgG -Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and (DGP) IgG ... -

Blueberries in cheese? I'm going to look for it in our stores (West Coast). Tonight is Tri-Tip steak (West Coast cut) with mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. Too tired to pull a salad together. We had an all-day marching band tournament. -
ARCHIVED Fibromyalgia and Sleep problems caused by Gluten Intolerance
cyclinglady replied to Mitch694's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Well....you could still have celiac disease. Sounds like your doctor only ordered the TTG. Did you get copies of the lab results? Did he/she run an IgA deficiency test to insure that the TTG test result is valid? Many celiacs are IgA deficient. I say this because I test negative (even on follow-up testing) to the TTG even though it is a good test for...
