  1. I think the color of your teeth is genetic. Everyone has some degree of yellowing per my dentist. Color is also impacted by drugs taken when teeth are developing or drinking tea or coffee. There are teeth whiteners on the market. Once damage is done to teeth from celiac disease, there is no chance for recovery per my research. I would love for someone...
  2. Well, I am not an expert, nor am I a doctor, but you did test positive on one of the test specific to gluten/celiac disease. I too, tested "mildly positive" and my biopsy via endoscopy showed moderate to severe damage. My only known symptom was anemia. I was shocked! Keep eating gluten until all testing is complete.
  3. Welcome! Let me put it bluntly.....you need a new doctor. You have one positive on the panel. Now, you should see a GI doctor for an endoscopy (not a colonoscopy) for a visual and biopsies. Celiac Disease damages the small intestine--not the large. I tested positive on just two of the tests and ended having moderate to severe damage when I had...
  4. Me too! I can now stop blaming old Dr. Spock, and my poor mother who followed him back in the day!
  5. I am bummed about this. We delayed gluten, eggs, nuts, and milk until my daughter was a year old. So, far she has no issues. But the reality is that she has good chance that she will develop at least one autoimmune disease in her lifetime. Her odds are higher with celiac since both of her parents have it. Anyway, her Ped did acknowledge that she was...
  6. Oh, you were diagnosed in May. I did not feel better until after one year. I still have off days which I blame on allergies (hello, Fall and mold!) and my other autoimmune disorders, and menopausal issues. I am into the gluten-free diet for 1-1/2 years. Give yourself more time! It will get better.
  7. Here is my take..... First section. Never put you hands in your mouth without washing them! I do buy gluten-free lotion because I break this rule periodically. The meat and chicken question? No. Hubby has been gluten-free for 13 years and this has never happened to either of us. Second section. Bleach kills germs -- it will not remove gluten any...
  8. Congratulations! I am really happy that your rash has improved. You are an inspiration for all folks with celiac disease, but even more so for those with DH!
  9. I would call the doctor back. The standard protocol is to do an endoscopy after positive blood test results. I would be curious as to why they do not want to do it.
  10. I hope you find one, but keep eating gluten until you are sure all testing is complete. It is a personal choice, but i knew (having lived with a celiac for 13 years) what going gluten free meant. I needed as much confirmation as possible in order for me to give up more foods as I have always been allergic to milk, nuts and eggs. I wish you the best...
  11. Thank you for catching my error (post edited). I should think twice before posting prior to my first cup of coffee and getting ready for school!
  12. But it is not so cheap. For example, one of the criteria to be certified is that even the employees can not bring in gluten containing food in their lunches in the manufacturing facility (I toured a commercial gluten-free bakery in Atlanta). The certification is super strict. They just do not test the end product but suppliers as well. That is why...
  13. Get to a GI doctor and discuss it with him or her. A endoscopy is usually the next step.
  14. Gluttony will get ya every time! For what you wrote, try eating foods in moderation! I think that is just plain and simple common sense. Keep a food journal, you may have some food intolerances, but again, if you eat too much of anything, there will be consequences! Hope you feel better soon.
  15. It does get easier! I used to love baking bread and in between my blood test and biopsy, I consumed a loaf a day of sourdough. But, while I have mastered cupcakes and cookies, I was too ill to bake my own bread. So, we stuck to lettuce wraps. We still use lettuce wraps even though I feel up to baking. My gluten-eating daughter even orders her burger...
  16. Oh, they had a hard time getting the IV in most likely due to DEHYDRATION!
  17. Ugh! I NEVER presented with pain anywhere near my gallbladder for 25 years! My pain moved around. For a while they though it was my colon, uterus, appendix, or ovaries. I used to pass out from my gallbladder attacks and would go into shock. My attacks occurred annually. It took one out-of-state surgeon who was called for a consult who thought it was...
  18. For now, just stick to eggs, meat and fish, fruit and veggies and fats/oils like butter and olives until you are healed from surgery. That is my diet. Later, you can expand your diet. Muffins? They are probably made with nut flour, like almonds. Eat "dinner" for breakfast!
  19. Unless the oats are certified gluten free, I would not eat them. There is too much field/processing/handling for them to be safe. Some people simply have issues with them regardless (me) and that may be due to intestinal damage at the beginning. If you want cereal or porridge, try rice or corn-based products (e.g. Cream of Rice).
  20. I can not eat eggs either. So, I always eat dinner for breakfast. Usually leftover fish or meat and a cooked veggie. In a hurry? Canned sardines, tuna or salmon with cold veggies. I add coconut oil to my morning coffee for extra calories and needed fat. By adding fats, I have finally brought up my good HDL over 20 points without raising LDL (cholesterol...
  21. Keep eating gluten and hang in there is my best advice! Congrats on getting a date!
  22. Sounds like you were not tested for celiac disease. Here is a link that talks about the disease and the standard blood tests. A biopsy via an endoscopy is often recommended. Open Original Shared Link Testing for food intolerances is not really accurate per my research. However, tracking foods in a diary is really helpful. I would hate for you to...
  23. I have never been heavy. I have been to the upper side of my BMI range. Even though I was very active, I blamed perimenopause, a late-in-life pregnancy and just old-fashioned aging. Then I got my diabetes diagnosis (after my celiac disease dx), I dumped the carbs, increased fats, and lost those extra pounds. I am now in the low range of my BMI as I had...
  24. My best costumes were in college. My Dad helped me build a slot machine which I wore. It worked too! Payout was in candy! Won a prize for that one. Another one was a "girl in a hot tub". Complete with steam rising from dry ice and my glass of wine! Thank goodness I live in a warm climate! Sewing an Aurora costume (Malificent movie) for my daughter...
  25. How long have you been gluten free exactly?
