  1. Peanut butter, nuts of any kind, dried fruit, coconut milk, avacados, Glutino pretzels... I've been baking a lot of quick breads and cakes. Also, muscle weighs more than fat, so exercise is a great help. Physical activity tends to make me hungrier and therefore I eat more. When you are a thin person, it takes a longer time to put on a few pounds...
  2. I have never been glutened by Kinnikinnick. Their staff are not even allowed to eat gluten. They have to eat gluten-free lunches. I've only eaten the plain Lays Stax and have not had any problems. I only eat Glutino pretzels and I have never had any problems.
  3. I know, I felt like I was totally abusing the system. I even said that to the ER nurses and they said I was not and that I needed to be there. They said many others do abuse it, but I didn't fit into that category, luckily, because I'm really against that sort of thing.
  4. Lays Stax are the only ones made in a separate facility.
  5. It may be safer for you because of other intolerances to make your own chili powder from the single McCormick spices. I'm sure you could find many spice "recipes" on google.
  6. My doctor actually sent me to a neurologist regarding my aura migraines. The neurologist linked it to my pill because the migraines were timed with the week off the pill. She said an option is to go off the pill, but that I could still get migraines from my natural estrogen cycle. Sounds like I had better luck with my neurologist. She was young which...
  7. I don't understand why some of those offices have to be so rude. I had a very similar experience after a minor surgical procedure on my cervix. I called the OB/GYN office to explain my symptoms. I was in serious doubled over pain. The nurse said it can't possibly be related and basically to get lost. I was in tears and I went to emergency instead. I...
  8. I had them all the time prior to going off gluten. I didn't know why I got them back then. I haven't had one since being gluten-free.
  9. I watched the show this morning too. Cityline is usually really good and I'm a big fan of the show. I'm leaning towards blaming the guest, Rose Reisman since I think she is very ill-informed. Most cooks/chefs that I have heard talk about celiac are better informed than her. Or if they don't know enough about the topic they don't go into it in detail....
  10. I'm just curious as to how you figured out that your vertigo was connected to the pill. I've been on the pill basically forever (10+ years).
  11. Sorry, I can't help you. I just think it disgusting to put colouring in fish or meat. It makes you wonder about the quality of the fish to begin with. I eat salmon and luckily I have never seen what you describe.
  12. Save-On Foods just started carrying them in their freezer section. I don't recall if Nelson has a Save-On.
  13. I know someone already stated this, but make sure you rinse the quinoa well. I've been taking out books from the library, so that I can try them out for free. As was already said, many vegetarian cookbooks have alternative grains recipes, such as quinoa. The Moosewood restaurant has quite a few cookbooks and I just made a quinoa casserole from their Suppers...
  14. Kinnikinnick does have a number of casein free items too. But, you're right they do use soy in many of their products.
  15. That is so funny. Your description of your son was identical to what I was saying to my husband in the theatre. I read the books and he doesn't. I wonder, if I act like your son, should I really be telling people my age. Hmmmm...LOL I like the books and the movies.
  16. Thank you for keeping us updated. I love chocolate marble ice cream and I haven't had it in a couple of years. I can't wait.
  17. I slice it and freeze it. I just take out what I think I'll need for the next day.
  18. Here are a few links for scientific abstracts on soy isoflavins for people that like to read those kind of articles. Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link
  19. I hate it when that happens. I eat frozen fish often and I also eat Kinnikinnick products without any problems. I hope you can figure out what it was that bothered you. Were the raisins safe?
  20. I wish I had a suggestion for you. All I can say is most of my university degree was done as an undiagnosed celiac. And I know how it feels to be sick from gluten when you are trying to write a final. I know that is why I did poorly in many classes. When you have to leave an exam because the immodium isn't working, it really sucks. So to compound how...
  21. Well, your appendix is located in the lower right hand quadrant. But, if you have been having spasms for years, it shouldn't be your appendix because that needs to be an acute response. I don't know, maybe by one year of gluten-free it will go away. It took me one year of being gluten-free to feel normal again.
  22. Of course we do. They are cuddly, cute and calming. But sometimes they become crazy with the full moon. But we still love them.
  23. That's great to have someone be able to pick up some Mission tortillas for you. Here is the Food For Life website. Open Original Shared Link
  24. They are great for tuna salad sandwiches.
