  1. Potato flour looks and feels different than potato starch in my opinion. Potato starch is very similar to tapioca or corn starch. Also, potato flour goes rancid quite quickly, so it has to be stored properly. I never use potato flour. I try to modify the recipe to use something else instead.
  2. If there is nothing that indicates hidden gluten in the ingredient listing, I have tried the sauce before. This may be risky. I'm not sure about the brands you listed. I started making my own sauces out of canned tomatoes, fresh veggies and spices. But, I have a lot of time on my hands since I haven't been able to find a job in my field. I checked...
  3. I've never seen Mission brand in Alberta.
  4. I think that vinegar is distilled and so it is considered safe. But, people react to vinegar for other reasons not because of gluten.
  5. You need to watch out for certain words such as "spices" and "natural flavours." Also, cross contamination may be a problem depending on the manufacturer. I'm sure there's more, but I can't think of anything else right now.
  6. Kinnikinnick sells cookie crumbs that I have used for a crust before. So, maybe you could crush some gluten-free cookies.
  7. You can buy really inexpensive rice flours and tapioca starches at asian markets or in the asian section of your grocery store.
  8. To avoid spending too much on flour, try the asian markets or asian section in your grocery store. You can get rice flour and tapioca starch really cheap. I find cornstarch to be cheap anywhere. I've been taking gluten-free cookbooks out from my local library to test them before I buy them. This may be an option for you too.
  9. You have a good memory. LOL Que Pasa is available at Save-On and Planet Organic.
  10. I have made banana bread simply by replacing the wheat flour with rice flour and it has turned out great. Now I sometimes add some corn starch to the rice flour, but you don't need to.
  11. I eat Que Pasa tortilla chips and I haven't had any problems. Here is their allergy statement from their website: "14. Do your chips and corn tortillas contain gluten, wheat, soy, or nut products? No, our chips and corn tortillas do not contain gluten, wheat, soy, or nuts as ingredients. Our corn tortilla chip facility does not manufacture products...
  12. They have a link on their website with a list of Canadian stores that sell them. I might have to try them now that I've found a store near me.
  13. I always cook the whole package and so I reheat it quite often. I think it reheats quite well from the fridge. But, Schar is good too, much like the gluteney pasta of the past.
  14. I would love to claim my food too, but I don't have an official diagnosis. My doctor wants me to eat gluten because she is sure that I have celiac, but I don't want that pain.
  15. I tried the parent company's website and it didn't even have the salsa line anywhere on it. My husband is eating it anyways, so it won't last long.
  16. I have a friend with Addison's disease and she doesn't have celiac.
  17. I didn't even know that they made mustard! I've eaten the salsa before, but I didn't want to take any more chances. Just in case.
  18. No problems when I've eaten them.
  19. Soy sauce, almost every jar of spices (no-name brand), Tropicana juice, Quaker rice cakes, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and body lotion. I'm sure there were even more items that I gave away.
  20. Does anyone know if this product is gluten free? I can't seem to find any info. The ingredients sound safe, but I would like to make sure.
  21. Good points. I think I will buy a separate coffee grinder.
  22. I found that it takes at least a few months before your bm's become normal. I had D many times a day like you. If I can remember correctly, soon after going gluten-free mine were large and floated, but over many months they went through form changes and by one year I would consider them normal and only once a day. It really is great to be normal.
  23. I also make my own as needed. Even before I was gluten-free I did this because I prefer to flavour the sauce for my tastes.
  24. I don't eat products that have the statement "produced in a ..."
  25. I need a coffee bean grinder and I want a food processor. Would a food processor grind nuts and coffee beans? Please suggest any favourite brands. Thank you in advance.
