  1. Last year I was give a bottle of hand lotion that contained oatmeal.
  2. Is it me...or am I crazy? I went to a Christmas party at work yesterday (I normally "Don't do parties"). I brought my own food, knowing that there was not going to anything there that I could eat. I had to get up from the table and leave the room several times, due to nausea. Could it be because of the rolls and stuffing that people near me had on...
  3. As I was sitting in an Italian restaurant waiting for my salad (No croutons, brought my own dressing) to arrive, the table next to me was delivered a pizza. It looked and smelled so good, I actually sat there with tears running down my face. Cindy
  4. I think that mine has to do with an eating disorder thing. Because that there are so many things that I "Can no longer have", when I find things that I can have, that taste good to me, I tend to eat them like there is no tomorrow. I have been known to sit down and eat a whole 16 oz. bag of Tinkyada pasta mixed with chicken and veggies. When I am done...
  5. I would talk to the nutritionist at the hospital before you go in, to see what type of accomodations are available. I was very lucky, my local hospital had a gluten free menu, and the staff were knowledgeable about cross-contamination. I also made up lables (to put on anything that I thought might need it...my record, the menu's, medication sheets, etc...
  6. I agree. before I was diagnosed, I would get bruises all over, for no reason at all. It turned out that my body was not absorbing Vitamin K. My Platelet level was off the charts at 909 (Normal range is 140-415). Cindy
  7. Double "Awwww"! . Thanks for sharing. Cindy
  8. Writerspice, When I first went gluten free, I thought I was doing really well...and then I realized that my vitamins contained gluten! It even said so right on the label. You also need to check to see if any medication that you take is gluten free. You can check this website: http:/www.glutenfreedrugs.com or write/phone the manufacturer directly...
  9. Welcome, Writerspice! Please feel free to ask any questions that you have. Someone here is bound to have the answer. If they don't - they will find out for you. When you first go gluten-free, you will find so much information - don't let it overwhelm you. You can only absorb so much at one time. Don't worry - after a while it will seem like second...
  10. My son started making what he called "Pudding Plop Pie" when he was about 3 years old. We would use the instant chocolate pudding and put it in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid[/u]. He would shake it up real hard for a couple of minutes and "Plop" it into the pie crust. (This was before I was diagnosed, and we used the ready made graham cracker...
  11. I'm just a little bit below PA, in MD. I went out there a few months ago and felt like I just kept driving and driving....forever. I even got lost (but I can get lost in a paper bag ). It was well worth the trip, though. Cindy
  12. I have not seen it yet. As a matter of fact, the December issue is sitting on my dining room table right now. I haven't even finished reading the October and November issues yet. I guess I spend too much time on this board . Cindy
  13. Boy - Just when you think you have some idea of what you're doing...something else gets thrown in. Cindy
  14. Another quick and easy dessert recipe - Jello Whip 1 0.6 oz. Box Jello (any flavor) - I like Strawberry 1 1/2 cup boiling water 2 1/2 cups ice cubes 1 tub of Cool Whip - Defrosted Stir boiling water into Jello mix for 2 minutes until completely disolved. Mix in ice cubes until slightly thickened. Remove remaining ice. Add Cool Whip. Mix...
  15. Welcome, Suzanne! I agree with the reports that Coke products are gluten free. I't a good thing, because I'm addicted to Diet Coke (Starting with breakfast - I like my caffeine cold). I guess I could be addicted to worse things. If I had to give up gluten - at least I can still have my Diet Coke! Cindy
  16. A little Canadian humor?
  17. Gee... Before I was diagnosed, I was eating Mentos all the time. My stomach was so upset that I figured the pepperment would help. (I was spending most of my life in the bathroom). Little did I know that I was just hurting myself more.
  18. Welcome! Everyone here has been through the same things that you are going through now. If you have any questions, please ask - someone is bound to know the answer. If you go to the home page of this board, on the left hand side, in green (towards the bottom), there is a list of safe and unsafe food. This will list all of the ingredients to look for...
  19. Well - They say one person's trash is another person's treasure.
  20. My aunt actually bought me a loaf of EnerG bread when I went to visit her. I opened it up and took one bite - just couldn't get any more down. My aunt commented that the bread smelled awful and was making her sick. I took it outside and crumbled it up for the birds. They wouldn't even eat it.
  21. Welcome! There is a lot of knowledge on this board. I recommend that you search through the old threads for answers, and ask questions to help get you through this. You are not alone. Cindy
  22. I remember my father's mother drinking senna pod tea every day (Over 40 years ago). She insisted she could not go to the bathroom without it. She was never tested or diagnosed as having Celiac. My father had an iliostomy because of ulcerative colitis 20 plus years ago...he also was never tested or diagnosed for Celiac. Gee...I wonder where my brother...
  23. Maybe you could find some information in an easy to read format and print it out for them to read in their spare time. One thing I found quickly was: Open Original Shared Link Also something listing which blood tests are in the Celiac blood panal (for those doctors who are clueless).
  24. Too Cute! Thanks for sharing.
  25. Welcome, Squeak! I would try the suggestions listed (except for the beer ), and if they don't work, search the forum for other suggestions that people have posted. Everyone's system is different. Cindy
