Is it me...or am I crazy? I went to a Christmas party at work yesterday (I normally "Don't do parties"). I brought my own food, knowing that there was not going to anything there that I could eat. I had to get up from the table and leave the room several times, due to nausea. Could it be because of the rolls and stuffing that people near me had on...

ARCHIVED I Was Crying Like A Baby
kevsmom replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As I was sitting in an Italian restaurant waiting for my salad (No croutons, brought my own dressing) to arrive, the table next to me was delivered a pizza. It looked and smelled so good, I actually sat there with tears running down my face. Cindy -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have Problems With Satiation?
kevsmom replied to Pyro's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think that mine has to do with an eating disorder thing. Because that there are so many things that I "Can no longer have", when I find things that I can have, that taste good to me, I tend to eat them like there is no tomorrow. I have been known to sit down and eat a whole 16 oz. bag of Tinkyada pasta mixed with chicken and veggies. When I am done... -
I would talk to the nutritionist at the hospital before you go in, to see what type of accomodations are available. I was very lucky, my local hospital had a gluten free menu, and the staff were knowledgeable about cross-contamination. I also made up lables (to put on anything that I thought might need it...my record, the menu's, medication sheets, etc...

I agree. before I was diagnosed, I would get bruises all over, for no reason at all. It turned out that my body was not absorbing Vitamin K. My Platelet level was off the charts at 909 (Normal range is 140-415). Cindy -

Writerspice, When I first went gluten free, I thought I was doing really well...and then I realized that my vitamins contained gluten! It even said so right on the label. You also need to check to see if any medication that you take is gluten free. You can check this website: http:/www.glutenfreedrugs.com or write/phone the manufacturer directly...

ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Disasters
kevsmom replied to Tephie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My son started making what he called "Pudding Plop Pie" when he was about 3 years old. We would use the instant chocolate pudding and put it in a plastic container with a tight fitting lid[/u]. He would shake it up real hard for a couple of minutes and "Plop" it into the pie crust. (This was before I was diagnosed, and we used the ready made graham cracker... -

I'm just a little bit below PA, in MD. I went out there a few months ago and felt like I just kept driving and driving....forever. I even got lost (but I can get lost in a paper bag ). It was well worth the trip, though. Cindy -

ARCHIVED Coke Products?
kevsmom replied to suzimarie06's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Welcome, Suzanne! I agree with the reports that Coke products are gluten free. I't a good thing, because I'm addicted to Diet Coke (Starting with breakfast - I like my caffeine cold). I guess I could be addicted to worse things. If I had to give up gluten - at least I can still have my Diet Coke! Cindy -

Gee... Before I was diagnosed, I was eating Mentos all the time. My stomach was so upset that I figured the pepperment would help. (I was spending most of my life in the bathroom). Little did I know that I was just hurting myself more. -

ARCHIVED Ener-g Tapioca Loaf
kevsmom replied to Jentu's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My aunt actually bought me a loaf of EnerG bread when I went to visit her. I opened it up and took one bite - just couldn't get any more down. My aunt commented that the bread smelled awful and was making her sick. I took it outside and crumbled it up for the birds. They wouldn't even eat it. -

I remember my father's mother drinking senna pod tea every day (Over 40 years ago). She insisted she could not go to the bathroom without it. She was never tested or diagnosed as having Celiac.
