ARCHIVED Local Celiac Support Group's Leader Makes Me Nervous!
Nancym replied to Electra's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Did they mean GRANOLA? Or is this some new hip thing I'm completely unaware of. Even the urban dictionary was no help! Crunch-muffins? LOL! -
ARCHIVED Local Celiac Support Group's Leader Makes Me Nervous!
Nancym replied to Electra's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What the heck is 'GRONOLA'? -
I've discovered that I can only tolerate seeds and some nuts in small amounts. Sunflower seeds give me the WORST diarrhea, same with pumpkin seeds.

ARCHIVED Enterolab Diagnosis
Nancym replied to PeggyV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not with Enterolab, although quite true with blood tests. Enterolab goes directly to the source of the problem (the chowder chute itself), they can detect antibodies for a year or more after going gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Help!why Am I Feeling Bad Again?
Nancym replied to SanteeBay's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think gluten was masking some of the other food issues I had, like with dairy. Now I listen very carefully to my body. When things start going haywire I know I have to tweak my diet. For instance, eating too many nuts or seeds gives me diarrhea. Just start experimenting and see if you can't figure out what it is that is causing you issues. -
Stick with it! Sorry you're not feeling vastly better already. I had some improvement in just a couple of days (with the bowels). But my arthritis, fatigue, muddle-headedness took months to get better. I agree with the others, take the whole family gluten free and concentrate on eating foods that are not processed, like fruits, veggies, meats. Later...

ARCHIVED Please Help Me Figure Out These Labs!
Nancym replied to e&j0304's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If he is IgA deficient then the enterolab results will be negative. You might want to double check with them however. They're very responsive to emails. I think the dietary challenge is enough to prove it, IMHO. -
ARCHIVED Happy Times! I Feel So Much Better!
Nancym replied to rutland's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like you're eating nearly a paleo diet. I think it is a tremendous way to eat. Sure, might not be as immediately gratifying as dumping lots of grains, starches and sugar down the gullet, but it pays off in good health! Much easier to control the weight too. -
Loren Cordain pointed out in his newsletter, or maybe it was a study he published, that cows milk contains a huge amount of growth factor, like vastly more than a human would normally be exposed to. It makes sense, a baby calf has a lot of growing to do to become a cow. I wonder what a life-long exposure to far, far too much growth factor does to a person...

ARCHIVED Kefir
Nancym replied to dionnek's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I noticed this: Kefir is usually made from milk, so I'd ascribe it to that. I make kefir myself from coconut milk and my kefir cultures. It is good! It doesn't give me gas. It seems to make my gut pretty happy. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Tell The Difference?
Nancym replied to hannahsue01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do a google search on norovirus or stomach flu and see if the symptoms match. I just had it a few months ago myself, I didn't have a fever but had headache, vomiting, and a general feeling of malaise. I was around someone that had just had it too, and it is frightfully contagious, so I was sure that was it. Plus, my symptoms of gluten aren't that bad. -
ARCHIVED Redridge Beer In San Diego?
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Its the hillcrest one I usually go to. I really need to not go there on the weekend! -
ARCHIVED Feeling Awful ; Thinking About Going Back
Nancym replied to betterbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In a word, no. Humans have been around for many hundreds of thousands of years and we've only been eating wheat for about 7,000. So it would seem quite possible to survive without it. -
I know they're using anti-TNF medications for Crohn's and I think colitis with good results. It's kind of an awful thing to take though since it suppresses your immune system. Its the sort of thing that can cause you to get REAL sick with a mild infection, but sometimes it is worth it if your autoimmune disease is very severe. I guess before I would...

ARCHIVED Redridge Beer In San Diego?
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Mango! Let me know if you find it in more places, I don't get to Whole Foods very often. The parking there is a nightmare! -
ARCHIVED Redridge Beer In San Diego?
Nancym posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went to Bev Mo! (they never have anything I want, I don't know why I bother with them!) and couldn't find it, been to an Albertson's and couldn't find it. Has anyone found it in San Diego? -
Yeah, its up to you to decide whether or not you want to share the information with your doctors. I did and brought them the enterolab results and they accepted it. I was surprised actually. They could have easily pooh-poohed them. Your doctor probably has nothing to contribute to your ability to manage this issue. So whether or not they know or...

ARCHIVED Enterolab Diagnosis
Nancym replied to PeggyV's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can email Enterolab, they're very responsive to questions. My thought is you might be IgG deficient, so you'd never test postive. But ask them and see what they say. -
ARCHIVED Gut Article: Leaky Gut May Occur From Gluten Even In Absence Of Celiac Disease
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Publications & Publicity
Every autoimmune disease seems to have a link with celiac, i.e. there are more people with autoimmune disease that also have celiac. I think the connection is the leaky gut. The pathogens leak out of your gut and your body goes nuts trying to kill them, but unfortunately some of these pathogens look like human proteins, so the body turns on itself. For... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Awful ; Thinking About Going Back
Nancym replied to betterbelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Putting gluten back isn't going to help you. It sounds like you have an infection of some sort, you need to see a doctor. -
ARCHIVED Does Hubby Really Have Caliacs
Nancym replied to helphubby's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You might want to go on the diet with him. It'd show support and you never know, you might feel better yourself! -
Why is it necessary to go into so much detail with people? Just say you're diagnosed as having gluten intolerance, end of story. They're probably not all that interested in all the gory details anyway.

ARCHIVED Gut Article: Leaky Gut May Occur From Gluten Even In Absence Of Celiac Disease
Nancym replied to Nancym's topic in Publications & Publicity
There's barriers all over the body, the intestines, the brain/blood barrier and even the skin. I remember reading that zonulin can open any of those barriers. I always figured zonulin in the skin might be responsible for DH, somehow. I'm pretty sure this is already demonstrated to be true. I've read one of the articles Dr. Fasano wrote. I believe he... -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Is He?
Nancym replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yes, yes, been there. Solved that. Go back in the thread and look for the vacuum cleaner posting. My thanks to the old Usenet news group, rec.pets.cats for that one. I had a cat that squirting didn't phase one bit and they associate the bottle and water with you, so it makes them afraid of you. I'm such a push over that I really didn't like using spray... -

That's why I posted the vacuum cleaner trick for you! Trust me, this is an easy problem to deal with.
