  1. You had positive results on the gluten-free diet, right? Even Dr. Fine says some people that test negative will still have positive results from a gluten-free diet. Its kind of the "Doctor, it hurts when I do this!" old joke. The doctor always responds: "Well stop doing that!" We pay these guys that kind of money to tell us what should probably be...
  2. I used Jarrow L-Glutamine and that is what cured me of some chronic poopiness, it was either that or the fact I stopped taking turmeric, not sure which. Maybe both? At about the same time I also started making kefir, which is a probiotic on steroids. It has 40 different kinds of beasties in it, versus the 6 or so in a typical probiotic. I recently...
  3. Ok, Quackwatch can be a bit overzealous. But do a google search on Electrodermal testing and read up. There's a lot of states prosecuting people who do this. BMJ published a double-blind clinical trial result Open Original Shared Link. I'm not against alternative medicine either and use quite a few things, some effective, some not. But that's a sizeable...
  4. I forgot about this thread! I had a really GREAT experience at Harry's Bar and Grill in La Jolla, near UTC. They made an incredible sea food salad for me. Also at Peohe's in Coronado and we go to the Rancho Bernardo Inn for our Holiday party at work every year, and they take good care of my gluten free needs. It seems a lot easier to get good gluten...
  5. From my own experience, coconut flour is thirsty, thirsty stuff! It really absorbs liquids like crazy.
  6. I love these technical discussions that Enterolab seems to spawn.
  7. This article might be Open Original Shared Link. But to summarize, they're not legal to use in the US and anyone using them to diagnose disease is breaking the law and would be subject to all kinds of stuff including loss of license and quite probably fraud charges.
  8. It is what I would do if I had people living with me. You never know, your husband might feel better too!
  9. There's one genetic combination that Dr. Fine says doesn't correspond to Gluten Sensitivity or Celiac, that's a double DQ4, which is very rare except in Asia.
  10. Doctor's used to think it was very, very rare. Like 1 in 5000. Now the numbers for Celiac disease are around 1 in 100 but I suspect the numbers for gluten intolerance are much, much higher. 30% if Dr. Fine is correct. A lot of people are going to be going gluten-free if they just try the diet and feel better, like I did.
  11. Sounds like a scam to me!
  12. Celiac no, gluten sensitivity yes. Enterolab.com accurately diagnosed me and many other people here. The only way to tell if you've got villious atrophy is to look at the villi (which is the hallmark of Celiac). But they can tell if you're fat absorbtion is bad, which is a sign of celiac (and other diseases). IMHO, a dietary trial is the ultimate test...
  13. He's done a lot of work correlating symptoms to results, and then following up to see if the gluten-free diet worked. His results are quite good. I think he's got a slide on how many fail to respond to the diet and it ain't much. Even more surprisingly he's had a few people test negative that felt better on the diet. I'm sure if you sent an email...
  14. My IBS cleared up the first week. Later on other things started to resolve, like the brain fog and neuropathy. In all, it took about a year to feel really good again. But I was pretty convinced just from the IBS going away that I had nailed it.
  15. Fish sauce can have wheat in it, or so I've heard. But good brands don't have it. I'm not a person who gets REAL sick if I eat wheat so I can't say what might have gone wrong. The coconut soup should be ok, but it does have fish sauce in it. I make Thai food at home and I LOVE that coconut soup. I like to go to asian stores and buy stuff but a lot of...
  16. This doctor has some info on lympocytes in his blog: Open Original Shared Link
  17. With smoking and other bad habits though, you might not have a swift, death but might just go through a lot of debilitating illness for 20 years before you finally die. To me, having good habits now is so I can enjoy good health when I'm elderly!
  18. Do you actually say that? I think if you stressed the part I highlighted there it might make someone think twice about opening their yap.
  19. Also, the gluten-free carby snacks are worse than wheat based ones usually. They're much higher Glycemic index and higher calorie to boot. You gotta go easy on that stuff. I find sticking to a diet of meat, fish, veggies, nuts, fruits is the best one for me to keep my weight in control. I've struggled with my weight pretty much my entire life. And eating...
  20. A Gluten free diet is not low carb diet unless you make it so. In fact, people who replace all the stuff they were eating before (bread, crackers, etc) are eating a higher carb diet because the stuff they make gluten-free products from are higher in carbohydrates. All that tapicoa, potato, and corn starch. Rice is higher in carbs than wheat, corn too....
  21. There is no creature on earth that REQUIRES gluten (except maybe the dreaded Gluten Weevil). You can eat a high carb diet without eating gluten.
  22. When I looked up nut crusted fish they suggested using coconut milk to dip the fish in.
  23. You'll probably need something to glue the nuts to the fish. I'd look for nut crusted fish recipes on Google and see how it is done. Improvise! I'm sure whatever you get will be delicious. I had a macadamia, banana chillean sea bass that was sensational.
  24. Are they living with you? If so, you could simply take your household gluten-free if you're the one doing the cooking and shopping. Put your foot down and say that as long as they're living with you, they're going to be gluten-free. It's what I'd do. Not a whole lot you can do outside the house, but at least in your space you can control it. That's...
  25. We'd all love to rescue our families from gluten induced diseases but most of us have come to realize we can't. The desire to fit in, eat like everyone else and not be inconvienced out-weighs possible health risks. Look at how many people continue to smoke in the day and age where we understand and absolutely know what the risks are, then consider that...
