Just an FYI. I went around chasing hypothyroid symptoms for a long time. Agitated to be put on Armour thyroid, etc, etc. It didn't really help me out. It made me feel tired and wired. I still couldn't lose weight. What finally resolved the symptoms for me was getting off gluten and dairy and taking lots of vitamins that I suspected were low: B-12,...

They're friends of the Ptomaine's and they always go out to eat at Sam N' Ella's Cafe. You remember, the couple with the little daughter named Listeria?

ARCHIVED What Is Your Opinion?
Nancym replied to e&j0304's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you had your son checked for food allergies? By that, I mean the type of IgE allergy like a peanut allergy. Maybe he is allergic rather than intolerant. Also, Dr. Fine says there are people who will test negative to his test yet still be gluten sensitive as proven by diet. -
ARCHIVED Anyone W/ Canker Sores?
Nancym replied to rez's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I always got canker sores in the winter, around holiday time. My Mom always blamed sugar. Now I'm thinking it was probably the wheat. I haven't had any since going gluten free. Another thing to suspect... because of the timing (winter, shorter days, inside, etc) maybe a vitamin D deficiency? -
ARCHIVED Husband Is Negative Too... Im So Confused
Nancym replied to girlfromclare's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The blood test is very flawed. It doesn't catch celiac when someone has the skin manifestation or the brain manifestations, generally. If you all feel like you need the paper to confirm it, try getting tested by Enterolab. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Panel Now Rejected For H. Insurance
Nancym replied to Mom to Many's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know what state you're in but in CA COBRA goes for 3 years now. We also have a "high risk" state sponsered insurance that is EXPENSIVE as all get out, but they won't turn you down. Hope you live in a state that is reasonable. And remember folks... these are the reasons we need to go to the polls and vote! If we don't make our voices heard by... -
ARCHIVED Help Against The Gerd! (reflux)
Nancym replied to allison's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you're eating a diet high in refined carbohydrates (starches and sugars) you could be making your problem worse. Dr. Eades has a lot of good articles in his blog about GERD. You might read them over and see what you think. I think this one was particularly good: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease: Not Just A Gi Problem
Nancym replied to Sophiekins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Beautiful post! If you click on "The Gluten File" link under my siggy and navigate to the neurological sections you'll see the amazing compilation that Cara has done. I think my family gets the neurological form but rather lightly. I'm so grateful to have caught this before I got too far along. -
ARCHIVED Can Anyone Please Help Me Understand Enterolab Results?
Nancym replied to gary's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You've definitely got malabsorption and that's probably due to intestinal damage. Next step is to give the gluten-free/CF diet a shot and see how you feel! What've you got to lose? -
ARCHIVED Question About Family's Reaction To All This
Nancym replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd say that's not the norm. Most people probably don't want to hear they're eating something that could be making them sick. -

Nancym replied to costellosfriend's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm a regular participant in a low carb forum and it is amazing how many people say that low carb cleared up some health problem for them. Personally, I think it was that they got off wheat. Unfortunately there are a lot of low carb products out there that are FULL of gluten because... unfortunately... gluten is the pure protein part of wheat so you... -
ARCHIVED Had A Celiac Test While Off Wheat, Concerned Results Aren't Valid
Nancym replied to angel42's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Soy sauce contains gluten. You might have sensitivity to more than one food. A lot of people have bad reactions to soy as well. Give yourself a few truly gluten-free weeks and see how you feel. Consult this for a list of things to avoid: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-12106375047.ea -
ARCHIVED Not Just Uc...not Just celiac disease...not Just What Else?
Nancym replied to Need new guts's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Faux pas Means "false step" in french. Dr. Fine found a pretty good link between UC and gluten sensitivity. You might want to check out Enterolab.com. -

It was more my short term memory that improved, and my ability to retain new information. -

I've been wanting to add some decorative boulders to my garden, could one of you bakers help me out? -
A couple of possibilities come to mind. First is that lots of autoimmune diseases go hand in hand with fatigue. Second is that, unless I get some pretty good exercise every other day or so (vigorous) I start to feel sluggish. I just figured that one out! And lastly, a lot of my persistant hypothyroid symptoms seemed to be due to eating foods I was sensitive...

ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Free On A Small Budget
Nancym replied to SarahTorg's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you don't replace the gluten containing items you'll probably be better off health-wise and pocketbook-wise too! -
ARCHIVED Gluten Ataxia (only)?
Nancym replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It seems like I read something about gluten based brain damage and prospects of recovery not too long ago. I think it was one of those things you really want to catch sooner rather than later. -
Yeah, lots of places. On Coronado Island the restaurant Pehoe's (Hawaiin) is great to work with. I gave them a triumph dining card and they were eager to work with it. (I had macadamia nut, banana chillean sea bass that was fabulous!). And we have the usual chains with gluten-free menus (PF Changs, Outback, etc). I also had a WONDERFUL meal at Harry...

ARCHIVED Where To Stay/eat On The West Coast Area
Nancym replied to Sweetfudge's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I *LOVE* Monterrey! I'd recommend that area for the beauty. But I live in So. CA. I'm not up on the spa thing though. -
ARCHIVED Family Not Believing W/o Dr Diagnosis
Nancym replied to doulagrl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think this resistance is really selfishness. People don't want to be inconvienced by your health issues. It is sad when it is family members. Maybe confronting him with his selfishness and how it could hurt your health and the health of your children could make him see the light? -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Nancym replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't call myself Celiac although oddly, my Doctor has that in my files. I presented him the info I got from Enterolab and from then on he decided I had "Sprue". I think it is rather odd the woman asked how you were diagnosed. When I attended the one meeting in my area they didn't care and I think I heard from others who were also "gluten sensitive"... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Ataxia (only)?
Nancym replied to tiredofdoctors's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There IS a form of gluten induced brain damage. A doctor named Hadjivassiliou has done a lot of research in this area. There will often be no villious atrophy and no postive blood test results. You'll find a lot of the papers he has written in The Gluten File (link in my signature) under neurological manifestations. Maybe someone has already clued you...
